Another great entry into the Xenoblade franchise. No previous knowledge of series required, much like Final Fantasy they are different stories/contained universes from game to game. Large open world, yet still somewhat linear in progession of story and from area to area. Not overly difficult to get in to but not as accessible as a normal turn based RPG. Takes a performance hit in handheld mode unfortunately. Collector's edition is nice, the hard cover art book being the main seller for me personally.

I’d easily rank Xenoblade Chronicles 2 near the top of my list for one of the best games currently on the Switch. So good, I bought the standard copy of the game and then turned around and bought a copy of the Special Edition as well. The game is a great RPG that you can lose yourself in. I’ve yet to complete the game (about 40 hours in) but it is my understanding that there is a good 70-80hrs of gameplay in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Oh... and you don’t have to have played Xenoblade Chronicles or Xenoblade Chronicals X to understand what is going on in the game. Get this one now! You’ll be glad you did!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 managed to be my favorite game of 2018, and there was a lot of competition there. If you like JRPGs and anime (and tropes in anime), then I can already recommend XC2. It has a very long engaging story (including lots of cutscenes) involving likable characters, good gameplay mechanics that get deeper as you progress, and very well created, attractive locations. The fantastic soundtrack helps the impact of the game too. More thorough reviews exist out there, but I think if you're interested enough to be reading this, then XC2 might be a safe buy for you.

I love Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The soundtrack is wonderful, the worlds on top of the titans are at times breath taking, and the first hour of the game is excellent. While these are great points, the game does have some issues. First if playing this title in handheld mode, the game takes concessions with regards to frame rate and resolution. However the major issue I have with the game is the core combat mechanics itself. The battle system is complex, but the battles themselves are long, unnecessarily drawn out clogs. You'll eventually reach bosses too difficult, forcing you to grind out levels just to advance the story. The battle system was no where like this in the previous game on the Wii, plus the spin off Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U. This is a huge issue on my mind, but after getting frustrated I'm still drawn back into the game and have been pushing forward, just to see more titans and the rest of this story unfold.

I usually don't write many reviews but this game is breathtakingly remarkable. I am over 80 hours in and finished the game with lots of stuff to do to fully achieve 100%. I have finished xeno 1 and X and loved both but this game has the best bits of both and masters over them in story and complexity. The story with no spoilers absolutely pulls on your heart strings and I have never experienced such an emotional roller coaster in my 40+ years of gaming. Monolith Soft I hope you are reading this as I have all gaming platforms, pc, ps4, xbox x and switch. This game has truly conquered them all with absolutely without trying. Haha I just hope I don't pass away before you release the next xenoblade :). The game does have some graphical glitches when played hand held to dock as resolution often stays grainy. Just restart game in docked mode sorts this out. The mini map needs some work and travelling. Although developers will patch soon.
Battle system - complex but superb
Story - amazing
Graphics - Good but not perfect - this is expected with Nintendo. Although games make consoles not graphics.
replayability - excellent
Music - breathtaking
Looking forward to expansion next year and hoping it carries on from end game and not a different era.

This is an excellent followup to the original! Lots more story, combat, and just about everything else has been improved upon. The special edition is a nice touch, including a steelbook case and hardcover art book with soundtrack CD.

If not for the absolutely amazing Persona 5, Xexnoblade Chronicles 2 would be my favorite RPG of 2017. A wonderfully deep game with a nice mix between auto battling (think Final Fantasy 12) and turn based (timed button presses).
A gorgeous steel case, a sample OST (although I'm not as big on the soundtrack of this game as others), and a hardcover artbook round out this nice collector's edition. If you're looking for a long and lengthy JRPG, look no further.

Where do I begin? Let's start with the special edition specifically. The packaging is awesome. It's not just a plain white box. It has this chroma thing going on when light hits it, and the art on the front is well done (and embossed). The same art is found on the metal case, but is in a metallic format. Speaking of the metal case, I wish they would have labeled the spine with the name of the game, it's blank (minor gripe). The art book is large, heavy, and just wonderful to look at. I haven't opened the cd but I've heard it's 13 tracks from the game. I'd say this package is worth it if you've got the 20% discount from the Best Buy Gamers Club. Full price would be worth it if they included the expansion pack.
The game itself:
Gameplay: It starts off simplistic, I'm talking the first two hours or so, and then keeps adding some complexity to it. There's tutorial pop-ups along the way that I found very welcoming. Also, instead of burying the instructions for controls in system menus, they're a button away on the D-pad, which is very convenient to reference since there are more than a few "hold this, then press this" actions.
Graphics: Hmmm, kind of mixed. From a technical standpoint most of the time they're very nice (for the Switch) while sometimes they get a little "messy", and you'll run into low res textures here and there. It hasn't ruined the experience, but I figured I'd mention it. The design of the world is great.
Sound: AWESOME soundtrack thus far, the fight music has some adrenaline pumping guitar riffs while much of the exploration music has piano, string instruments, and other orchestral magic. The voice acting is fine but I found their accents an odd choice. Luckily you can download the Japanese voices for free from the Nintendo eShop.
Story: I'm only about 5 hours into it but I'm enjoying it so far. From online reviews I hear it kind of trails off towards the middle of the game and then comes back later, but I'll make my own judgement when I get there.
FYI PARENTS, it's rated Teen and earns it due to some of the language I've encountered so far.

In a time of some truly lackluster "special editions", this one is a standout. The packaging is very appealling and has the size that communicates that there are some very nice extra's inside. Those include an artbook, soundtrack and steel case, all of which complement a great game very well.

Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii was one of my favorite rpgs of all time, and XC2 continued that trend wonderfully. Super awesome game, fun changes to combat, and the special edition has some amazing goodies and an awesome art book. Totally worth the extra money!

Great battle system tainted by several things

Having played every single Xeno and beat all but one of them, I was going to play this game regardless. Having finished this, I liked the battle system and the QoL improvements it has to X and XC1.
It falters in several ways:
The map is still terrible.
There is no auto-save.
The crashes are few and far between, but when they happen are devastating (because of the lack of auto-save).
It boils down to being a gross waifu gatchapon game (sure there are no microtransactions, but it is still a terrible mechanic).
For those coming in from XCX, there is no goofy music, multiplayer, or mechs to fly.
For those coming from XC1, there are more titans.
For those coming from Xenosaga, Yasunori Mitsuda (music) and one of the character designers are back for a specific race in the game.
For those coming from Xenogears, there are Zohar symbols within the game. So you have that at least?
It is really hard to recommend this to people who haven't played previous games in the series. Those that have, decided to buy or not buy this game with/without this review existing.

Wow what can I say. I love the Xeno series dating back to XenoGears on the PS1 this is no different. Amazing game, great story, fun combat etc. One of the best RPGs this generation of games easily. This collector's edition comes with a lot of cool stuff. Sadly mine was slightly damaged but nothing significant. I heard some people have it worse so I would recommend buying the standard game.

The art book you get with this collector's edition is very nice. its very thick and hardcover. The steelbook is awesome although I do have a complaint because it doesn't have the name of the game on the spine which makes it awkward looking on the shelf. This also comes with the soundtrack all packaged in a very shiny box.
