I loved it! Took me a bit to figure out if I really needed the WiFi version—turns out, nope! With Apple HomeKit, the Bluetooth version works like a charm. Unlocked it from 90 miles away! No more juggling keys ever again.

You have to install door sense for auto lock to work, so metal reinforced door frames may be problematic without special drill bits. Also one needs spare bits for a regular wood door frame.
Also the home key locks require a HomePod to allow assigning apple keys to other people, adding $109 to what the actual cost of the first lock to work correctly with HomeKit. Additional locks can use the HomePod used with the first lock.
Install took less than 6 minutes if the holes in the door are pre-drilled.
Simple app.
Kids love not having keys, with HomeKit integration I can share keys in the app with family and friends who have a iPhone.

So glad to be back to Yale. I tried other biometric off-brand systems and couldn't get rid of it soon enough. Love the geo-fencing: front door auto-unlocks as I arrive.

Had a previous version of this smart lock and now this version on my new home. Ease of installation was great. Stays connected and quick lock manipulation. Pairs well with HomeKit and use of apple key card in Apple wallet.

Save yourself the headache and consider a different lock. I had an issue witht the apple wallet key card and upon calling Yale customer service they reccomended returning the lock to best buy. (Though it was too late for me) they also stated they are aware of the issue and it happens a lot in particular with this lock model. The batteries also die extrememly fast. I was locked out of my place for over an hour and had to use chatgpt to get the lock to open again as the trouble shooting instruction on the yale site were not very clear.

Pros
Very Stylish
Modern Look
WIFI

Apple Integration
Concerns
Possible Battery Life due to WIFI
The Yale Assure Lock 2 is very stylish in its appearance and design. The compact nature of this is very pleasing. The lighted keypad is inline with modern door locks and allows for manual input during the dark.
The complete installation took about 15 minutes for me as I swapped out another electronic door lock system. The included installation guide is very detailed which was welcoming as it addresses many doors and situations a person could have installing. They also do include lots of hardware to install into. Only thing I did notice is if you have a metal door, you might need a different drill bit, but i installed on wood core door. The app does include some step by steps that could be helpful, which we used my wife's iPad to download to and walk through.
The steps to add the additional module were pretty easy and the booklet gave great directions. The hang-up I had was getting the door ajar sensor placed right but after a few tries it worked by just. Next getting it connected through the app was a little bit more slower than expected but it all connected and integrated on my network really well.
Getting this paired with the built in Apple Home Key was awesome, this was a function I really looked forward to trying out. This step took a little bit but was a breeze once I got our devices all connected through our HomeKit. Now when my wife comes home I get an alert on my apple tv and phone. Plus I can just house my iPhone and Apple Watch!
Overall this device is solid and has some amazing technology jam packed in it. While the downfall is the battery life in this, I think rechargeable batteries might be a good investment with this lock and just change them out every few weeks. Also buy a 9V battery and have handy incase batteries every do fully drain.
I hope future updates will address the WIFI and constant draw on battery life and improve. This is only a suggestion and no way hinders the technological masterpiece this device is to me. I love the full home integration for our front door now!

I should preface the review by saying the main draw of this lock is the compatibility with Apple Home Key technology which literally allows you to unlock the door with just your iPhone. This does require a hub to control the Homekit such as the HomePod, HomePod mini, or even an Apple TV. If you do not already have an existing Apple hub and were not planning on buying one, then I can say that this lock should probably not be on your list.
Right out of the box, I was happy with the way the Yale Assure Lock 2 looked. It looks very sleek and minimalistic which is my ideal design aesthetic. Even my wife who has no interest in smart tech said "wow, it looks good."
Installation was not too difficult. There are very good instructions included which takes guesswork out of it. Admittedly while I am tech-savvy, I am not great at handiwork. Still, this was pretty straightforward. Once it is physically in place, setting up the app and Homekey was fairly seamless for me.
In terms of real world use, I was really happy with how well it worked. I just hold up my phone to the lock and it unlocks. It's actually quite fun at first to play with and my wife was hooked on it as well. The keypad is also able to be used for entry if your Home Key is not working for some reason. For some reason, I feel like the touch-sensitive locks in the US regardless of cost are all not great. Yale clearly wants the Apple Home Key to be the primary method and the touchkeys to be secondary. The keys are not that sensitive and honestly felt like it would just be easier to have a physical lock and key if you were trying to use it for that function. The lock speed is decent. One complaint that I had is the motor's sound. It does sound louder than previous smart locks that I have used.
Another thing that was concerning was the battery usage. This uses regular AA batteries which it actually was chewing through at a surprising rate. I don't know how long they are supposed to last but I would stay fairly vigilant about replacing the batteries. There is a way to charge the keypad with a 9V but I doubt most people just casually have a 9V battery hanging around if they come from work and they are locked out of their home. I think a physical and manual option to open in these scenarios would have been nice.
All in all, if you have an existing Apple home hub and want to jump into using Home Keys, then the Yale Assure Lock 2 is a good option. Otherwise, there are other options that are more attractive.

I recently installed a Yale door lock on my front door, and it has significantly enhanced my home security and convenience. The installation process was straightforward and took about 20 minutes, with clear and concise instructions that made it easy to follow. I only needed a basic screwdriver, and no professional help was required. The lock's sleek and modern design blends seamlessly with my door, adding a touch of sophistication to my home's entrance. It feels robust and well-constructed, giving me confidence in its durability.
One of the standout features of this smart door lock is the keyless entry, which allows me to unlock my door using a PIN code or my smartphone. The remote access feature is incredibly convenient, enabling me to lock and unlock my door from anywhere, whether I'm at work or on vacation. The lock responds quickly and reliably, and I haven't experienced any connectivity issues. The battery life is impressive, lasting several months on a single charge, which is a significant advantage.
The smart integration capabilities of this lock are also noteworthy. It seamlessly integrates with my smart home system, allowing me to control it using voice commands through my virtual assistant. The companion app is user-friendly and intuitive, offering various customization options such as setting up temporary access codes for guests and receiving real-time notifications about lock activity. These features provide an added layer of security and convenience.
Speaking of security, this smart door lock comes equipped with several advanced security features. The auto-lock function is particularly useful, automatically locking the door after a set period, so I never have to worry about forgetting to lock it. These features give me peace of mind, knowing that my home is well-protected.
Overall, this smart door lock has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, design, and security. It has made my daily routine more convenient and has significantly improved my home's security. While it may be slightly more expensive than some other models on the market, the features and reliability it offers make it well worth the investment. I highly recommend this smart door lock to anyone looking to upgrade their home security with modern technology.

Good Smart Lock Overall But Some Issues

Overall, the Yale Assure Lock 2 is a good smart lock and is an improvement over their previous versions, but it does have some issues.
Pros:
* Installation is relatively straight forward. Especially if you are just replacing an existing deadlock. All the hardware you need is contained in the box and you even get different screws to accommodate different door thicknesses. If you are installing on a new door, templates are provided allowing for hole cutouts.
* The hardware seems well built and sturdy. Time will tell how long it lasts, but initially, it seems solid.
* It works with a number of smart home setups including Apple (my setup). The Home Keys is a great addition that allows the unlocking of the lock with your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Siri. You can also use automations within Apple Home to set conditions like turning on the porch lights when the lock is unlocked.
* A wifi module is included that allows the lock to connect to your home wifi for use with Siri or other smart assistants.
Cons:
* Battery life seems like it may become an issue. I've had the locked installed for 3 days and the batteries are already down 10%.
* The keypad doesn't light up as you approach the door so you can't see the numbers to enter. You have to press the Yale logo to get it to light up before entering your code.
* If the batteries die while you are not at home, you have no easy way to get in as there is no key. You can use a 9 volt however to temporarily unlock the door if locked out due to dead batteries.
* The wifi cuts out on occasion for no reason. Every other day or so, I get an alert from the Yale app that the lock disconnected from my wifi. Then 10 mins later, get a notification it is connected again.
If you are looking for a smart lock that works well within the Apple ecosystem, this is a good option. It does what it says and unlocking with your iPhone or Apple Watch is very convenient!

Buggy. Doesn't always work reliably with homekey. Won't hold a connection to a homepod.
Returned and never again with Yale.

I am not new to Digital Locks like this... I have used the August products for almost 5 years now. So adding this to my garage door, was just a perfect extension of our digital home.
So first... I was a bit confused when I first started the installation process, as I downloaded the YALE app, and it opened up... BUT!!! there was already a lock in it, and I was very familiar with the screen, so I had to go back and forth a couple times... to come to realize, that August and Yale must be the same company, or they at a minimum use the same app code. So, if you already have an August lock or possible another companies, don't get confused like me for a minute.
Installation: Will take give or take an hour depending on your comfort level with taking out a lock, checking the new spacing. MOST doors with in the last 30 years will probably be compatible right out of the gate, with nothing for you to do, then just install. But do take the time to double check everything. Yale gave a very handy measuring page, and step by step on what to check, and what to adjust based on how your door was setup. Mine was "standard", and I didn't have to make any adjustments, other then extend the deadbolt size with the simple twist (instructions walk you through it).
Taking my time, the most difficult part was actually putting the back side of the lock on, took me a few minutes to get everything lined up, and the lock stopped into place, and I had to go to the "next" page of the instructions to know where the screw was to hold it all together. But none the less, took me about 30 minutes to do the physical installation.
Digital setup: Very easy to walk through, step by step.. but you need to stay close to your lock.
Pro Tip: If you have multiple wifi networks in your house (like I do). Set your phone to the wifi network you want the lock attached to. The app won't ask what network you want to use. I have a dedicated IoT network in my house, so I had to switch my phone over to it.
Pro Tip #2: While the app will remind you when batteries are running low. Set a calendar entry for about 6 months from now, to change the batteries. That is the life I get on my August, and have to think that will be the same here. This way you won't get caught locked out.
First, the app will walk through physical calibration, this is the lock testing how far it has to go to unlock and lock the door. Easy simple.
Then it is going to walk you through setting up the Apple Wallet key... this is what I got the lock for, and it took a minute of frustration. 1) You can't scan the code they give you, since there is no QR on it. you will need to manually enter the code. 2) I had to do it three times, because I have so many devices in my house, I didn't see "Lock" was the new Yale lock. Wish it said Yale Lock.
Once setup, it added the digital lock to my wallet... so easy to tap and use now. Super cool.
Simple, just tap the phone and it opens.
Now the digit code... right in the app you set it up. This is going to be so useful when doing yard work, when I may not have my phone with me (I set this lock on my Garage). or if Lock myself out of the house, and my phone is inside.
So now I am setup....
Pro Tip #3: Consider changing your KNOB to one that doesn't have a lock on it.
I have learned the hard way that people may lock that bottom knob, and that then defeats the entire purpose of having a digital lock.
Pros: It is a digital lock, and all ready to rock and role. Simple Battery replacement, 4 AA batteries, nothing crazy, nothing recharging. Digital Wallet is a killer feature. WiFi options for remote opening when not at home.
Cons: The digital key pad for me is a little big. I wish it was maybe just a plane looking lock without the keys, and then the option for an emergency physical key use. with the keypad installable somewhere else... just an idea.
It is a bit bulky on the inside of the door. That may not be an issue for some, but if you are going for a super elegant look, this may not be the best option for you. PERFECT for me and the garage.
Some followup Tips:
Learn the features of the app, especially how to add family/friends to it. GREAT and easy way to "share a key" digitally, and can be full time, or just temporarily.
Able to remote open and close, (especially for a garage), allows me to let friends in, to grab a tool, and lock it again remotely. (I already do that on the garage door as well, but now have a second option).
And... when someone tells you that you are opening yourself up to hacking and people getting into your house. simply, remind them... it will take a LONG time of someone standing next to your door with a laptop and equipment to hack in... takes them just a few seconds to smash the window.
Enjoy your new lock
