Excellent 2-Channel Yamaha Receiver (R-N303)

I purchased the Yamaha 2.0 Ch. receiver two months ago and have been very pleased with its performance. First, the tuner is exceptionally strong, and now I receive local radio broadcasts with little to no interference, and with a shorter external antenna than I had with my old receiver (a 30 year old NAD). The receiver is driving two Bowers & Wilkins outdoor patio speakers and they now sound great. My previous receiver was having difficulty picking up local radio broadcasts and one of the channels was intermittently phasing out. The new receiver corrects both these problems.
One potential negative I note is I have the Yamaha volume turned up near its maximum while the separate volume control in the patio is only turned up only halfway, and this produces normal listening levels in my backyard. Thus, the power of the Yamaha is only a fraction of the power I had in the NAD, despite Yamaha’s claim their receiver is high powered. Fortunately, this doesn’t affect my listening enjoyment since I don’t listen to loud music but feel I could still listen to higher volume music if I chose to.
I haven’t synced to Bluetooth yet but I’m anxious to do so to play tunes from my iPhone. The Yamaha has numerous radio station presets so it’s easy to go from one radio station to another.
Overall I’m very pleased with the Yamaha receiver and would recommend it to anyone looking for a basic 2 channel receiver. I was looking for two primary things in a receiver (good music tonal range and a quality tuner), and I’ve found both in this exceptional receiver.

Good receiver. Overall I have been pleased with this receiver and it's functions. Being able to semi-control it from my phone has been a fantastic feature. (seriously, who carries the remote with them?). Initial setup of the app via WIFI didn't go as the instructions said, but I found a way. I had to disconnect both my phone and the receiver from WIFI, and then re-connect. Even then, the MUSICCASTSETUP network wasn't available but there was a generic YAMAHA network available for temporary connection which I did. Then back to settings on my phone and the MUSICCASTSETUP network was visible. After that setup was just as described. I say semi-control because you cannot control all of the features. You must switch between A & B speakers manually. Also, I have my CD player hooked up and the only control of the CD player is play, and stop. You must power the CD player on manually, which makes sense since it is not the Yamaha Receiver. Bluetooth was easy to setup and works fine as long as my phone is close to the receiver. I use an old phone for storing my music so that might be the limits of the phone. One thing I do want to mention about the FM antenna. It sucks. But it can be modified to work much better. It's a single wire so I stripped some insulation off the end and simply extended the wire with some old speaker wire (about 12'). Just for the heck of it I wrapped the other end around a piece of chicken wire and it works great! All in all, I am very pleased with this receiver and would recommend it to anyone.

Great Option for MusicCast on the porch

I bought this to match with Klipsch Outdoor speakers for the porch.
Set this unit inside on a shelf in the laundry room and now can control my porch music using the MusicCast app.
I used to have a WX-010 speaker out there but moved that one into my garage. This unit was easy to set up but I had set up MusicCast before. Pushes enough to run the Klipsch well. Had an old Onkyo set up before but it was below nominal for the speakers. Now they sound great.

I loved this integrated amp so much that I bought two. Do I wish it had HDMI, yes! Not having HDMI is my only and biggest gripe about this integrated streaming amp. The power and functions in the MusicCast amp make this one of the best overall deals out there for a full size component. It doesn’t have the fanciest anything in this amp, but for $300 or so, who cares? This sounds awesome, and has that clean and clear sound that all Yamaha audio products deliver. I use the optical input from my tv for most of my listening, but Airplay and MusicCast streaming is great too. Being WiFi capable is handy, and so is having an Ethernet port. I use both connections my two systems.

This was an excellent option for our upstairs music system. Tuner works very well and it's powerful enough to really drive our B&W standing speaker setup. Great deal for the price

I bought this receiver to allow easy access to streaming services and internet radio. It is mixed bag for sure, totally depending on the input. Internet radio is abysmal. Tinny like a cheap old time transistor radio. Streaming to the receiver via Bluetooth is easy and decent quality. Sirius XM would not accept my username or password but I could stream this from my phone via Bluetooth. Connecting via fm radio or turntable gave great sound just like one would expect from Yamaha. All in all, so so performance for what I purchased this for.

I am no audiophile and have been listening for years to what may be called "TV sound." Coupled with my ELAC speakers, which I also purchased from BB, the sound was a revelation. It's like looking through a Vaseline smeared window that has been cleaned. LPs, CDs, cassettes and streaming, like Amazon Music HD, all handled. (This is not for home theater.) You get a remote and can set up for Amazon's Alexa. Great product with all the latest.

I had a stack of old vinyl records that I could not play on my old Yamaha receiver, and a lot of new music on my computer that I could not play through my high fidelity speakers. This was one of the few that had a phono input, and it has the new technology for streaming music from my Mac, phone, or other device connected to bluetooth or wireless. it has been a long time since I have had this quality of audio. I am finding some great music in that stack of vinyl. I went with the Yamaha because I have been very satisfied with my previous Yamaha equipment that lasted me decades.

This receiver had all the hookups needed for my household. I didn't want to lose the ability to play music from all media types. Glad I found this one. Took a little time to figure out how to manually select sources, but got it worked out.

Just a stereo receiver. I use it to drive outdoor speakers. I felt it was a bit over priced for what it is, but it serves it's purpose. Yamaha MusicCast app is a piece of junk. Fortunately, blue tooth works well and Spotify and Pandora do what I need.

We use it for online and bluetooth streaming...We have 2 of them, they are linkable via the app and will simulcast the master. One is wired and the other is wireless and they play well with no issue.
There is a optical output we use for TV audio. These are versatile little units we use constantly.

I purchased this stereo for my garage. I spend a lot of time out there working on cars and enjoy listening to the music. I have some good quality Pioneer speakers that take a fair amount of wattage to drive them. This unit will do the trick, but it does take a lot of volume to get the speakers working good enough for me. I'll qualify that by saying I listen to music fairly loud. If you are looking for a quality unit for indoors, this is not the unit for you.
