Customers consistently note the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass response of this 5.1-channel home theater system. Many also appreciate the inclusion of Bluetooth and the system's value for its price. Positive feedback frequently highlights the straightforward setup process. A minor drawback mentioned by some customers involves the thin speaker wire.

Really nice value for what you get.
I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this. I wanted something more than just a small TV speaker for what is now becoming the "kids cave." I cleaned up/moved around some stuff in a room so now the kids can have their own "movie theater."
I paired this with a cheap-o Westinghouse 50" TV from Best Buy.
I really like that is has all the HDMI inputs and handles the sound in one package. Since I don't have a smart TV, I use this to connect my Wii U (yeah, it still works), a FireStick, and a Chrome Cast. I can select the 'input' from this receiver and then not have to worry about changing any input settings on the TV. Since this receiver handles all of the Pro-Logic and Surround, there is no reason to have to run any cables back from the TV. The included remote easily allows me to change the input and volume, so I never have to touch the TV remote.
The menu system is decent. There are "two" different menus you wind up using when setting it up. One is the global settings and the other it specific to the input. Just keep that in mind when first setting it up.
The speakers are nothing great. They do the job. With some subwoofer crossover point changes and being sure to put the sub in a corner, you can get OK bass. You won't fall off your couch watching a movie with explosions, but it does the job. The satellite speakers appear to be a single driver/speaker. They sound OK, but are just too small to move any amount of air for loud listening levels. I'm sure if you wanted to do it differently, you could just get this receiver and then run some really efficient speakers like some BIC America. (Not a shameless plug, I have those in my living room.)
If you want a quick-and-dirty home theater system, you can't go wrong with this. It took me longer to figure out how remove it from the box that actually setting it up. Well, except for running the speaker cable.
Speaking of speaker cable, they do include what looks like about 60 feet of speaker cable. It is OK. I used it for the front and center speakers, but did not have enough to run the back surrounds. I had some 16 gauge cable sitting around and decided to use that. The only "problem" is that the cable clips where you connect the wire on the back of the speaker is so small that I had to flatten the 16 gauge wire to insert it to clamp down. Oh well... use smaller wire.
Keep in mind that this is not a $3,000 home theater system. This would be great in an apartment or in a smaller room (like the size of a bedroom). It does not shake the walls and does not get loud. It works perfectly if you know the limitations. Again...it all comes in one box and sounds fantastic for the price. If you want something to shake the walls, then you need to get better speakers and more power than what this offers.
I have been very pleased with this purchase. I don't think you can beat the price for what you get.

While not the same as a high end sound system, the Yamaha works well in our new home; easy to setup and easy to program; the one drawback is it's lack of customization for sound but it does the job without spending $1,000; would recommend to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot but wants a great sounding system

Very happy with this purchase. To be honest I was looking for the budget model and prepared to tamper my expectations. Haven't been let down at all.
Definitely recommend getting some extra speaker wire if you have a larger room, but I wouldn't say they short-changed on that for the typical setup.

This is a quality 5.1 surround sound system! The music sounds wonderful and the speakers do a nice job of handling music and movie audio. The receiver appears to be well-constructed and it was a nice touch to have sufficient speaker wire included in the box! I also like the Yamaha YPAO microphone which allows the receiver to "tune" the speakers to the optimum listening levels based on where you'll be sitting.
My only "gripe" really has nothing to do with this system, but rather, my own shortsightedness.
In my haste to get a good quality 5.1 surround sound system, I forgot that (while not an audiophile, per se) I appreciate having a larger sound presence from my system. It's been a few years since I had a really nice stereo system and after playing this for a few days, I realized I wanted more.
I added a couple of Martin Logan Motoin 4i speakers and was impressed by their clear, clean sound. I then went on a search for better front speakers. I got a pair of Polk S55's which also sound great. My problem is I'm running out of headroom in the receiver to adequately power everything. Oh, the speakers work and sound very nice. I just want a little more power to fill everything out. I'm looking to replace this receiver with a higher-end Yamaha in the coming months.
If you're on a budget, and want really good sound from a well-built receiver, you can't go wrong with this. If you're looking to have more power and bigger speakers, save up and get a more powerful unit.

I love the sound so much better than my old system and I was surprised that the remote works for my PS5. The Powered sub is more than I need actually had to turn it down under options and with my old one I had it turned all the way up to get the same effect.

This setup really does a great job for the price it’s going for. You can’t go wrong with Yamaha, if you’re looking for a budget sound system for your home theater then this is a great option. Of course it’s not the newest and best nor does it have all the bells and whistles but for this price you sure do get a lot in one package. It definitely is a vastly superior upgrade from my soundbar and subwoofer setup that I had before I bought this.

Bought this as a early Xmas gift for the wife as our old system had started to fail. Finding a system that could work with a phono was important. The ease of setup and sound balancing was great. She loves how it sounds and loves how easy it is to control. DVDs, CDs, Albums as well as her music and video streaming services sound great.

I went with this when my soundbar started having issues. Be a good idea to download the manual from Yamaha's website and get familiar with it before purchasing. For instance, there is setting you need to do to change the impedence from 8ohms to 6. Its an easy thing, but you would not know it if you you didn't read it.
Setup: I had forgotten how tedious it was to run wires again, but if you are used to that, then it should be be problematic. Once everything was ready, the iniatial setup was pretty straight forward.
Sound: Is good, especially for the size of the speakers. There are a lot of adjustments you can do in changing the type of sound you want, again read up on it. Take some playing with.
Bottom line:. A solid system with very good sound, especially for the price range.

the unit works perfectly EXCEPT for the center channel speaker just quit working. I connected one of the other speakers to the center connection and that speaker worked. I took the center speaker and connected it to another output and it doesn't work, it's just dead.
I have not been able to contact Best Buy to notify them of the problem. I have been all over their site and can't get to a point of contact nor can I reach them over the phone as it is all automated.
all I need is a replacement center speaker. it literally just stopped working for no reason. everything else with the unit is satisfactory . but I don't know if I'll be able to get a replacement speaker because I can't get in contact with anyone.
the email with this review is the first time I've been able to reach out with my issue.

Works as intended for a small room and we are happy with it. The speaker wire that came with it is junk and next to impossible to strip without breaking the copper so be prepared to get new speaker wire. The calibration doesn’t really work either but that’s not a big deal because you can manually go into settings and raise the volume of the surround sound speakers. Overall, for the price, I recommend this system. The directions are clear and easy to follow. Nice sound and works as intended.

Nice system, great value. One box with everything needed for a very usable home theater. Granted, not Sunfire or McIntosh, but at least one less zero in the price, and not intended to be audiophile. Excellent product for those looking for an entry level home theater, complete, that exceeds entry level expectations. Well recommended by the local associate.

bought this because my old receiver and speakers just didn’t sound that good.
but this setup sounds great. the voices are clear in the center channel and the surround channels just sound awesome to me.
totally worth the money spent.
just get better speaker wire.
wire is crap that comes with it. 16 guage pure copper speaker wire, not cca wire (copper coated aluminum)
