I replaced my defective (short lived) Pioneer Receiver with this Yamaha Receiver. The Quality and reliability of Yamaha exceeds most other brands. I have a Yamaha, that still performs great for at least 15 years.

bought this to start building my home theater system, originally bought sony soundbar which worked great but i wanted to have more variety of connections instead of the limited ports on my tv id have to use with the soundbar. and i also chose this one bc it was an open box item and was a bit cheaper but well worth it because of all of its features. paired it with 5 sony speakers i bought at walmart (a set of 2 bookshelf, and a set that includes the center and rear speaker and on a side note i love the speakers, great quality even coming from walmart. i also paired it with a pioneer sub that i bought from best buy. i love the usb connection on the front and that i can access all the ipods menus, also love that i can have all my game consoles and satellite receiver hooked up to it. overall its a great receiver with great sound

I bought this at a sale price and really like it. It replaced an old Kenwood receiver. It has many pre-set sound setup options that you can pick from. I found that very helpful when switching between media sources like TV to BluRay or even from one bluray dvd to another. Only pet peeve I have is that it outputs to component or HDMI depending on the input. So if your input is component video (like Wii) then you have to switch your TV input to component. But this is really minor issue. It has many inputs to handle multiple sources. It has really good functionality that is easy to control. I love the unit and I could not find anything better for the same price.

I'm an audio engineer by trade and mix for television a lot. I bought this receiver for my home entertainment system. The discreet amplifiers and room acoustic optimizer system incorporated into this component make the sound quality absolutely phenomenal, IMHO. Plenty of inputs are there for all the latest technological gadgets and gizmos. I have a BluRay player, AppleTV, Nintendo Wii, & DirecTV receiver connected directly. Plus, I use the extra front inputs often for other connections such as cell phones, iPads/iPods, and USB flash drives. Setup was easy for me, but YMMV depending on your tech savvy. On screen display is very helpful and a nice change from the tiny menus I had to tab through on previous receivers. Yamaha makes great products and Best Buy had a great deal on this for me.

This receiver is awesome. The ease of hook-up is great, the quality of the device is spectacular and the price is excellent. I have owned 3 Yamaha receivers in my lifetime and they are all exceptional. The only reason that I replace my previous receiver with this new one is the fact that my older receiver did not have any HDMI inputs...because it is over 15 years old - not a single problem. For the price, this is a great receiver and I would recommend this product to most people. However, if you're looking for a multi-zone receiver - then I would suggest a different, higher end Yamaha receiver, otherwise this model will satisfy all of your needs.

I purchased this unit to replace another Yamaha I've had for years. It was easy to set up, the directions in the manual were easy to understand. I use it for listening to CD's and radio. This model was cheaper than a "non surround" receiver. The sound quality is awesome. Seems like it pushes more power than my old one did. I won't buy anything for home audio but Yamaha.

I was looking for a receiver that would accept a number of older style (non-HDMI) input devices (Turntable, Tape Deck, and Old DVR). This one allowed me to attach all of my old devices as well as my newer HDMI devices. It produces great quality sound for all of my devices. The surround sound speaker setup was easy using the microphone that was provided. I think of myself as tech savvy but I had to read the user manual to get all five speakers to work with some of my older devices. The newer devices were not a problem. You can select from a number of options provided by the receiver. I do have poor reception for the FM / AM tuner but it is in my man cave downstairs.

I wanted to add a receiver in addition to a new TV to be able to interface my cable box, DVD player, Wii, X-box with input to the TV. The only thing that I might have expected different is that on a couple of occasions when changing sources, there was a short delay after the switch was made. But this is not really a problem. The sound is good even with the mediocre speakers that I now have set up with the system and anticipate when I do purchase new speakers the sound quality will be better. I do like the ability of the microphone to help in adjusting the surround speakers for maximal efficiency. So far I've been happy with the purchase, particularly for the price.

This receiver has been great so far. The sound is outstanding, equaling rivals that cost double. No internet connection, which I did not want. On screen set-up is easy and straightforward. For the price I personally don't think there is a better option out there. There are plenty of different settings for movies/TV shows/etc to make everyone happy. You can set the scene buttons (TV/Blu-Ray/radio/etc) the way you want them, and associate them to whichever HDMI output you want, which was very nice, so even my kids can change the settings without having to think about it. So far, a flawless product that sounds as good as I expected.

Was misled by BBuy sales person that tuner would receive HD second channels. It is just a standard FM tuner. Still good for HDMI video source switching. Now have great surround sound for all video sources. Easy to program also. Good price too.

I bought this unit to get away from another brand and it is great. The setup was easy. Down side the instructions are not so good. But the sound and effortless switch over from different inputs works great

I wanted surround sound in my family room and this does the job very nicely. It was easy to set up. We had older speakers, a blue ray and a cable box we were trying to connect to a new high def TV and we just couldn't seem to get our old receiver to connect them all together. But we had this set up in no time at all. The sound is great! The only problem we have had is we can't seem to get the cable remote to control the receiver so now we need two remotes which I find to be a pain. We put the codes into the cable remote (just like we put the TV codes in) but nothing :(

This is a great receiver. Runs quietly, extensive configuration for sound level (including adjusting levels for each input). Some of the configurations are extraneous (like setting the type of media being displayed), but it's a very easy setup. The only significant issue is that the feet on the bottom give the unit a surprisingly large size, but they can luckily be unscrewed. Perfect for someone making their first 5.1 setup (as was my case).

If you are looking for an easy to use, feature laden AV Receiver, this is probably one of the best for the money. The power is adequate for a small to medium sized room and the sound quality is top notch. To notice a significant difference, you'd have to spend quite bit more. Ease of hookup to other electronics and speakers was appreciated. Overall, high recommendation.

I needed to update my receiver since I hadn't in many years and needed HDMI ports. This unit has 4 and it took care of all my needs. Had I used the old receiver I would have had a nightmare getting everything to work with toslink cables and rca's. With this unit it took minutes to get up and running. The four source buttons on the front are programmable, just hold them down for a few seconds and they chime to the new port. I've used Sony and Technics in the past and this Yamaha has great sound. If it had a phono slot I'd toss my Technics receiver out. Great buy at a great price...oh yeah I got it on sale :)

Love this receiver! I bought this as a first step with 4 in ceiling/ in wall speakers, 1 subwoofer and 1 center speaker. The sound is so great I feel like I'm at a theater but without the expensive trip to the concession stand. All of my components connect to the receiver so switching between viewing options is easy. I had the entire set up done in 10 minutes and had a movie and popcorn ready. Very glad I made this purchase. My family may not agree though!

I bought this for my average size home theater in my new home build. This system works great to synchronize my cable box, PS3 and projector. I bought the home theater in a box which comes with the 100 speakers and subwoofer. We don't turn up the sound anywhere near the top end and it blows up the atmosphere with gorgeous frequencies. No complaints from m at all.

I ran five speakers to this unit, both indoor and outdoor, at my summer house and the sound quality is just fantastic. I love the capabilities of the unit, it provides incredibly easy connectivity to everything I store music on.
