In my opinion, Yamaha makes some of the best sound amplifier equipment. We purchased this to replace our aging living room amplifier that was incapable of amplifying any modern A/V equipment. The upgrade to an HDMI compatible amplifier has made for a wonderfully immersive home theater.

I bought this for a friend to help him update his old sound system. His old receiver did not have the inputs needed for current audio connections like HDMI or optical. This receiver is prepared for future upgrades to wireless speakers and can be controlled by the TV.

it's sounds great. The one complaint i have is to listen to all channel stereo it turns on the center channel that doesn't make sense to me.
The other complaint is with the sales person that sold me the extend warranty . How does a extended warranty start the same day you buy the unit??????? I hope i can resolve this or everything will be returned

This is my 3rd Yamaha receiver. Each of the previous two lasted around 10 yr before something went out.
Everything I have tried works well. I especially like the the way I can optimize the speaker settings using the YPAO mike.
My one dissapointment is with using Bluetooth to listen on wireless headphones. I have a nice pair of Sony headpones that are able to get pretty good sound when using the LDAC coded. But the RX-V685 only supports the basic SBC audio codec. I expected more from decent peice of audio equipment. I also had some difficulty getting it to connect to my headphones. It finally worked after I unpugged the receiver to force a reboot.
Of course, I didn't buy this to listen on wireless headphones. It just bugs me. My phone does better. Way better.

Got this receiver due to a Denon Dud. Very easy set up all around and the sound is awesome from Dolby Atmos and all other sources.
Some minor issues getting the networking apps to work but it was just a learning curve i had to get through. I wanted the Dolby Atmos indicator to display but it only reads Atmos- DTHD......and also NO Dolby Vision

Great sounding receiver with plenty of power. MusicCast Surround sound can be challenging especially if your wireless network isn’t stable. Keeping the firmware updated on all MusicCast products and your router are a must. Be prepared to connect multiple times as sometimes the rears speakers can drop.

This has FREE internet radio stations. I had to go through the very detailed setting options to figure out that this device picks up FREE internet radio stations. I often end up listening to Country music stations, and 80's soft music stations. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! A hidden feature that you often don't think about, but once you've discovered it (settings option, initial set up) you end up falling in love with it. I highly recommend using the "Enhancer" option located on the remote controller, and also the 7 channel option where all 7 speakers play the exact same channel, all working together as one. This really fills the entire room with beautiful sounding music!!!

I bought this receiver to replace my previous non 4k Yamaha. I was pleasantly surprised by how simple it was to setup and configure. Performance so far is exceeding expectations and if anything I think my B&W speakers are sounding even better.

Receiver is good. The price was still high after I looked at others with same qualities and they had all the parts ie: remote control which I had to buy 55.00 and a manual I still haven’t found on line. At the same time I have to say that the second remote was easy to set up and use.

My receiver went down after 5 or 6 years and I was in the market for something that was 7.1 and the Yamaha had all the bells and whistles. Paired it with a nice powered Sony subwoofer and my surround sound never sounded so good

Had an older model Yamaha receiver, but it was time for an upgrade to go with my new 4K TV. This gives me more capabilities than my older one. Really taking advantage of the blue tooth feature (my last one did not have it).

Paid 40% less for my new Yamaha AV receiver than I paid for the old one in 1999. Excellent unit but the Yamaha remote is still cumbersome and not that easy to use. I replaced is with a Logitech universal Harmony Touch. Well worth the money

This a/v receiver has a lot of features. Sadly it was a little underpowered for the size of my home theater. I ended up going with a Yamaha RX-A3080 and wow, what a difference. But if you have a smaller room, this is perfect.

Easy to set up, powerful, and plenty of options. Used the zone two for my outside speakers. Wish it had an additional zone so I could hook up my front outside speakers like the Onkyo brand. App is great to control both zones anywhere around my house. Definitely like it.

I had a older 667 before lightning took it out. This unit brought me up to the newer tech. Everything is good with the unit except for the following:
The Usb and playing music. I'm using a usb thumb drive with about 600 songs on it. The random play is bad. In a week (playing about 2 hours a day) I have heard the same song at least 5 times others 2 or 3 times, other songs I never heard. It is like it starts over at turn off. I have had a lot of different car stereos and they never worked like this. (This is mainly why only 4 stars)
The remote - Do not like the new flatter buttons. For me harder to press. The older remote was better. (I wonder if it will work with the new stereo??)
Others things
As other have said the bass is weak. After doing some adjusting it works good, for my music (60's 70's rock). (note: have sub woofer)
Earc -- I have a cable that is suppose to be hdmi 2.2. Watch a 4k movie with fire tv on the tv and it works as it should. (Did the flash for earc)
