Recently upgraded to a 4K TV and my old Yamaha receiver only supported 1080p passthrough. So I upgraded to this baby and so far I am loving it. I was very worried about HDMI 4K passthrough with my Xbox one X, but it works flawlessly and all features including HDR10 work great as passthrough. The dedicated HDMI 3 input is designed for gaming (it even says it on the HDMI port) does a nice job of minimizing HDMI lag. Lastly, the Yamaha iOS app was super useful for the initial install. Yamaha does a great job of explaining what each feature does in this neat little app. Anyway, now that its all setup I cant wait to play Red Dead Redemption 2 in sweet sweet 4K HDR with Dolby Atoms!!!

I have three other Yamaha receivers including a RX-V1 and this is very complicated. Almost impossible without hooking up to a tv or monitor Yamaha;s support is slow so not really helpful. Once set up the sound is very good.

A typical great Yamaha receiver. The sound quality is fabulous with plenty of I/O ports. Simple set-up if you follow the instructions.

Bought this unit to replace a 7-year old Sony A/V receiver that had only 2 HDMI inputs. This was quite limiting when trying to run a TV, VCR/DVD, BluRay, WII, Xbox, Switch through a common receiver. This Yamaha really fit the bill well with 7 HDMI inputs (and 2 outs), plus has the bonus of MusicCast, and control via a smartphone app (in addition to standard remote). Sound is awesome, and configuration was easy.

Moving up from a Sony, to a Pioneer, to a denon, and then to this is a whole new world of sound. The difference in sound this has compared to the others I've had is immense. Clearer, sharper, less noise, better highs, tighter bass and better response all around..... On the same speakers. Even the surround effects work better, better stage, better movement, more accurate spacing, and more accurate timing. The voice tones are much better and there is zero need to boost the voice on the center channel compared to what I had before. The auto sound setup and calibration actually works! I'ven't need to do a single tweaking on any of the channels. I would suggest this Yamaha over ANY of the other brands I've tried in the past. Also, easy set up, works exceptionally well for blue ray HD pass-through, no issues on the video, no issues getting the TV, Blue ray, and receiver talking. Just flawless setup.

After researching multiple receivers, I upgraded to the Yamaha RXA880 and an happy with my decision. This receiver is easy to setup and configure, has 8 sets of presets and can be controlled via the Yamaha Controller application. We can turn the receiver on and off, change input sources, change settings and the volume from our iPhones and iPads, The inputs and presets (called Scenes) can be easily renamed, which allows you to switch to input sources using a name (i.e. BD, Cable, Game, Apple TV) rather than a number (1-8. @@@@@@@ The documentation in the box is brief and I recommend downloading the complete manual from Yamaha which includes information on the Yamaha applications and more setting information. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-a880_u/downloads.html

Replaced a Sony reciever with the Yamaha 880 along with the Klipsch reference speakers and 2 polk 400 watt subs. I really like the difference of the power output with crystal clear clarity. It was easy to setup. I dont like the remote it is heavy and bulky, but that is the only downside to this setup. If you have a decent sized room this is the reciever to get.
