A lot has changed since I bought my last receiver. This unit has the solid build and outstanding audio performance I have come to expect from Yamaha. But the additional capabilities of streaming audio, MusicCast, multi zone capabilities, YPAO, numerous HDMI connectivity/functionality and smart phone apps bring the system to a new level. My home audio and surround sound setup has been simplified, decluttered and better controlled so that it works the way it should of originally with my last system over a decade ago.

I have three other Yamaha receivers including a RX-V1 and this is very complicated. Almost impossible without hooking up to a tv or monitor Yamaha;s support is slow so not really helpful. Once set up the sound is very good.

A typical great Yamaha receiver. The sound quality is fabulous with plenty of I/O ports. Simple set-up if you follow the instructions.

I've moderate service related hearing loss. I've been using a sound bar for my TV for a few years and still either can't hear or have to turn it up so loud its obnoxious to others. I used this as the basis for my sound system upgrade. This receiver coupled with Definitive Technology speakers are a great combo and I wish I hadn't waited so long to do it!

My biggest annoyance with this receiver, the amount of time it takes it to switch signals (turning it on, waiting for it to go from HDR back to Dolby Vision). The "AI" part is pretty useless, and not artificially intelligent, at all. That said, it's an incredibly powerful receiver with great sound. I can hear stuff, without resorting to increasing the volume so high, my neighbors hear it.

Bought this unit to replace a 7-year old Sony A/V receiver that had only 2 HDMI inputs. This was quite limiting when trying to run a TV, VCR/DVD, BluRay, WII, Xbox, Switch through a common receiver. This Yamaha really fit the bill well with 7 HDMI inputs (and 2 outs), plus has the bonus of MusicCast, and control via a smartphone app (in addition to standard remote). Sound is awesome, and configuration was easy.

Moving up from a Sony, to a Pioneer, to a denon, and then to this is a whole new world of sound. The difference in sound this has compared to the others I've had is immense. Clearer, sharper, less noise, better highs, tighter bass and better response all around..... On the same speakers. Even the surround effects work better, better stage, better movement, more accurate spacing, and more accurate timing. The voice tones are much better and there is zero need to boost the voice on the center channel compared to what I had before. The auto sound setup and calibration actually works! I'ven't need to do a single tweaking on any of the channels. I would suggest this Yamaha over ANY of the other brands I've tried in the past. Also, easy set up, works exceptionally well for blue ray HD pass-through, no issues on the video, no issues getting the TV, Blue ray, and receiver talking. Just flawless setup.

I purchased this to replace my 7 year old Denon. I decided on Yamaha this time around since they don't seem to have quality control issues that the other brands have. So far it's awesome! It's nice to have all my 4K devices go through one central unit and not have to mess with the TV. I chose this unit because it was the least expensive Yamaha that had PRE-AMP outputs for all channels. I run dual center channels and use the PRE-AMP out to drive dual amplifiers (one for each speaker).

This was my second yamaha receiver. After upgrading to a 4k tv, I did a lot of research and was looking for one to pass 4k content to my tv. Connections:TIVO DVR, Roku, FireTv. When all were connected to the receiver I had issues of needing to switch from either the Roku or the Firestick to just watch programming through the Tivo. Then sometimes the receiver would auto switch to another device while watching. Very frustrating. The second thing is the remote design. No dedicated input buttons like my older model. Had a cheap feel to it. The Pros: I did enjoy the yamaha app to control the sound outputs. There was a definite increase of sound to my speakers that sounded amazing. Have 7.1 set up of mixed speakers as I am gradually upgrading to Klipsch. Currently running 3 klipsch, 2 cerwin vega, 2 sony bookshelf and 1 yamaha sub. Because of my connection issues, I decided to connect all my hdmi connections directly to my tv and I was able to enjoy without the auto switching. Because of the high ticket cost I did not see this worth keeping. So I returned it and resumed using my older model with no problems.
