    Yamaha A/V receiver upgrade

Had a beefier RX-1600 unit but had to replace it with a Yamaha unit the installer of my new 75 inch TV suggested in 2017 due to not having enough HDMI inputs, and replaced it with a Rx- 760. Never been happy with it due to lack of power and audio quality. After seven years of that unit, I was ready to replace it with the RX-A4A. Better sound and power like I had with my older Yamaha and with MusicCast the transition to activate zone 2 makes it very easy and effortless. The open box price I got in excellent condition made it a great deal. Unfortunatley you don't get a printed manual these days.

I had a 10 year old similar class amp that died. I am running 5.0 with big speakers. My old amp was supposed to support arc... It did not work. The a4a Arc works well. I am finally able to control tv and sound with a roku ultra remote. I no longer need the harmony hub remote. For setup I plugged in the eARC and YPAO mic. I left everything else at defaults. Dialog sounds so good that I probably wont bring up the bass and mess it up. Easier setup than I am used to. I hate products that ship with firmware promises. I usually buy the previous model year at steep discount. The reviews were not great and prices not discounted enough. A much older receiver would have met my immediate needs. Heres hoping that Yamaha puts out the promised firmware updates.

Excellent receiver overall. Great look and feel. The auto setup via YPAO works much better than my older Yamaha receiver AND it supports FLAC HD music up to 384KHz X 24 bit so I can listen to all my HD FLAC music stored on my NAS with ease. The MusicCast app on my phone makes controlling the functions and music choices very easy and the Sirius, Pandora and Amazon music features work flawlessly for me. Can't speak about any other sources. Once tuned the system sounds great! noticeably better than my old RX V867 (quite old but still working well). I pair it up with Martin Logan front speakers, Klipsch center and surround speakers and HSU Research subwoofer and the system rocks with finely detailed music with plenty of punch. Primarily used for music but it works great in it's home theater function as well. I would definitely recommend it for quality sound.

My first AVR in probably close to 20 years. I wanted something that was future-proof, so something powerful with HDMI 2.1 and 8K fit the bill. I currently have this running a 5.1.2 system, and I'm blown away at every time I use it. I currently have it eARCd from an LG CX and Xbox Series X until their future firmware updates activate the 4k/120Hz. I only wish it had an on-demand info button where it would display what audio is currently being output. Right now you have delve into the receiver's interface via HDMI to adjust settings and see the current audio. It's expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for here; it's beautiful and built like a tank. You'll get many years if not decades of enjoyment.

I purchased a refurbished Yamaha A2A, but returned it after multiple software issues rendered it useless. I am not sure if it was because it was refurbished or not, but I ended up upgrading to the A4A. It costs a decent amount more, so I was a bit hesitant. However the overall experience compared to the A2A surprised me a lot. It somehow sounds a bit cleaner than the A2A. The calibration and correction features are a lot better than the A2A. It has nice visuals for the different parametric EQs you can apply. For someone with technical knowledge, this helped me really tune my system to perfection. Accoustics and room corrections are extremely important if you actually want to get the most performance out of your speakers. Unless you have an accoustically treated room with ideal dimensions, you will need excellent calibration and correction features. I feel confident that using the default calibration settings will get you 80-90% to the ideal sound. The last 10-20% would be to set your speaker size and crossover frequencies yourself if you have a subwoofer. I ran the YPAO calibration, set my speaker sizes and crossovers, then did some minor tweaks to the parametric EQs for each speaker after listening to some music and hearing some harsh sounds from certain speakers in certain songs. I am running a 5.2.1 setup. KEF Q950s as the fronts, KEF Q150s for the rear, Sonance Mag6r as my ceiling, a klipsch 34c as the center, and a klipsch 120sw as the sub. I plan to upgrade everything to KEF eventually. The neutral sound of the KEF speakers really allow the Yamaha receiver to EQ them to give a neutral response despite some accoustic issues in my room. I had to tweak the Sonance speakers a bit more as they are a bit harsh in the upper range at high volumes. The default EQ for the other speakers work pretty well otherwise, and I would be happy with just setting it to "Flat". I listen to lossless/dolbt atmos music from apple music via an apple tv connected through hdmi. It is truly a beautiful experience. When my friends comeover they are amazed. For movies/tv it also works very well. Overall I love the receiver and even the remote it comes with. I would not consider the A2A the entry level option of the Aventage line. I would consider the A4A the true entry level option, with the A2A being closer to the V6A. If you love the neutrality and clarity of the Yamaha sound, you will not be disappointed with the A4A.

Owner of many Yamaha receivers over the years. Rotate receivers across two rooms this replaces RX-A760 which is placing RX-A1010. Setup is easy given my prior knowledge of Yamaha products. The connections app from Yamaha is very useful tool to follow given there is no physical users manual. YAPO measurement process is fanatic for set up. Given my speakers (mirage nanostats) are reaching end of life I did get so get some unexpected results but was able to easily adjust. I ran zone 2 outside to my patio speakers of which setup is easy. plenty of HDMI inputs available for use. I have TV, xfinity, DVD, ruko and switch and still have available HDMI inputs. Multiple DSP options depending on your listening tastes. Only complaint is the AV App it defaults to using MusicCast app. MusicCast App is fantastic for setting and managing input Sources Tidal, Amazon Music, SiriusXM etc. what I don’t like is managing DSP and other adjustments which were simple through AV controller are very hidden in MusicCast. All in all a great receiver for mid line system.

This is my 3rd Yamaha Aventage. I had the 10 series, and 20 series, so it is a huge leap forward! The setup was a breeze, I unplugged the old unit, plug back in the cables into the new one. I am using 5.1 with external power amp buddy (I use an Yamaha A-S1200) for the front Left and Right. I also hooked up the trigger to the sub. Ran YPAO and everything worked out of the box. Some random notes: - My biggest impression was on channel separation, somehow the center channel came alive while it was really too shy with the previous receiver. The surround bubble is really stronger than before without being too forward or fatiguing. A nice blend that transport you right into your movie. - I've read some report the unit to be slow, honestly the navigation into the menus (very well organized now!) and the operation on the unit itself including the initial power on is on par with my previous AVR, maybe a few sec faster - The subwoofer room correction is really a big improvement! - The Surround AI - enabled by default - is really making the sound weird, I didn't spend much time with it. - The front of the receiver is gorgeous but the display is just ugly. It works but I manage to turn it off (-5 settings). - The unit runs really cool even after 3 hours (listening around -25 dB) - Firmware upgrade required me to go with a USB Stick the online version doesn't seem to work Tip: Yamaha is giving 2 years of extra warranty, check out their website. All you need is to register and add the serial #. Total of 5 years.

First off I would like to thank Best Buy for the Awesome deal on this excellent receiver from Yamaha ! With the sale price and rewards I only paid $815 total with tax included ! This is a $1400 receiver everywhere else. And Best Buy is a certified Yamaha retailer so I registered and get the full five year warranty through Yamaha. Now the receiver itself with the eARC makes watching TV and movies painless, just hit the TV on button on remote and everything turns on or off and audio signal is decoded for whatever the format is, Atmos, Dolby Digital or whatever else. Works perfect, even wife and kids can use without grabbing multiple remotes now. Hooked up for 5.1 for now and sounds great, watching TV is so much more enjoyable now. Even streaming audio from my phone via Bluetooth is simple and sounds great using Amazon Prime Audio HD.

This receiver was purchased online as "open box excellent", but it didn't include the AM/FM antennas, the calibration microphone, the manual or the box. I guess it was a floor model, but wasn't categorized as such.

    Yamaha Upgrade for Home Theater

I purchased this unit to upgrade my HTR-5760 - HDMI inputs and outputs. The dual outputs are nice, my TV has separate inputs for 4K and less than 4K video. I use it mainly for the home theater 7.1 surround sound. I am very happy with the sound quality. My in house WIFI is lacking in performance, so I used a cat 5e cable and listening to XM radio in the house is a very nice feature. The motion activated remote backlite is an added bonus for watching movies or listening to tunes at night. I am very happy with the RX-A4A.

Well... my adventure started last year. My mother needed a AVR so I decided to give her my trusty Sony DN-1080. With me owning a RTX 3080 and picking up a PS5 and an Series X at launch I wanted something that would be compatible with both so I bought a Yamaha RX V6A. Needless to say I wasn't that happy with it. Clunky ui, HDMI 2.1 bug and board replacement, EARC issues and the straw that broke the camels back finding out that the 2.1 ports were capped at 24gbps. Some of this is my fault for not doing my research and just fomoing in because I needed an AVR. But alot of it still falls on Yamaha and their shady cryptic marketing dialog, they knew what they were doing. I've been burned before by brands but rarely do I hold a grudge (except for Vizio they need to get out of the TV business). When I heard that this years Advantage line up was un affected by the HDMI 2.1 bug and that their 2.1 ports were rated at 40gbps. I decided to take the plunge and buy the Yamaha RX-A4A. I have never owned an AVR that was this nice before and I will echo another review that said if this next firmware update actually happens I will definitely give this receiver 5 stars. The sound from my 5.1 klipsch set up is amazing. The on screen ui is so much better as well, such a smooth premium feel to it and a nice premium back-lit remote to control it with also. I appreciate how plug and play it was out of the box. I currently have a PS5, RTX 3080 PC, 2080TI PC, NVIDIA Shield and a Nintendo Switch all running through it. All of them work perfect and look great but I am going to have to unhook the shield and run it 1qdirectly to the TV because my Sony TV won't let you run 4K 120 and 4k dolby vision through the same HDMI port without manually switching the setting. All that being said the Yamaha RX-A4A is locked to 4K 60 until this firmware update happens so I will hold on to that fifth star till then. I will update this review if I run into any bugs or things I don't like but so far it has been great I'm very happy with my purchase

I was using the RX-V685 before. I thought there should not be much different configuration need to do. It turns out there a few default settings that you should turn off, or the sounds will be different. The first one is virtual speakers. If you have the Atmos speaker system, you should turn all VSP settings off before calibration. I don't why Yamaha turn them on by default, I almost wanted to return it because VSP screw up the Atmos big time. Second, The surround AI was on by default. Again, if you have the Atmos speaker system, turn off the AI, and select Dolby Decoding. Third, select the front LED panel to display the name of the decoding. It is in the second page when you dial the smaller button in the front, I always want to see what decoding I am using. I don't know Yamaha will set those default without a clear instruction for warming people abut it.

We have had receiver for 1 1/2 months. Replaced a 20 plus year Yamaha 150 watts receiver. Very easy setup with the Yamaha installation app. Sounds great, easy to navigate. We stream all of our entertainment through ROKU Ultra, there are some compatibility issues with a small number of apps, like Youtube, and Hallmark. The problem is the receiver will lose signal from ROKU sometimes, mainly when changing from show to commercials. Sometimes dumbing down ROKU to stereo will work most of the time to help with issues. I do not have YouTube TV so I don't know if there are issues with that app. Apps like HBO Plus, Spectrum, Discovery Plus,Disney, and Peacock work great with the receiver.

I am still learning about my 5.2.1 setup but let me tell you this receiver will blow your ears out. Sound quality is great. I am glad my neighbor recommended this. It was between this and a onkyo receiver but I think I chose the right one. I am enjoying my movies the rightvway now. I had a denon receievr bjt felt i needed more power for my klipsch speakers. This gets the job done.

This is my second yamaha sents aventage rxa1010. And my previous av receiver pioneer sc68. This by far kill both of them in sound and quality. This avr drive my bowers wilkins 5.2 system that consists of 2 floor cm10 and 2 m1b and cmc2 center and cm12 subwoofer. This avr really packs a punch and this all i need in a avr not going beyond 5.2. Man movies sound outstanding and look outstanding. If you on the fence for this receiver don't its a home run.

Excellent sound and Atmos/DTS-X implementation. Updated YPAO is definitely better than the last iteration. Extraordinary number of DSP options (of which I prefer none) if that is your cup of tea. Truly a wonderful AVR package for an excellent price. Not a big fan of all the plastic despite good workmanship. VERY convoluted menu and input set-up assignment (Denon, Anthem, Sony are MUCH more straightforward. Nowhere in the manual or on the website did I see that this had a web interface I could use for set-up.

What's not to like from Yamaha? Yamaha design, Yamaha reliability, Yamaha build. Great value. The Aventage RX-A4A is no exception. As one gets into Yamaha's higher line of products, quality is first and foremost. The RX-A4A has all the requisite features needed for today's A/V systems. Can you spend more and get more? Of course. That's true no matter what one purchases. However, this unit will surely satisfy more than a fair share of discerning audio enthusiasts at a reasonable price point.
