I am so disappointing of the subwoofer that does not work. When trying returning at Best Buy River Park in Fresno. I was denied to do so. I had to buy a Sony subwoofer for a replacement.

Well i still have not been able to use my Yamaha receiver. They sent a bad replacement (unbeknownst to me)remote with my setup. The original remote looks nothing like what i got in the box. The box didnt look tampered with either, crazy. So im frustrated. Also i bought an LP player and i bought it on the 26th of January with a delivery day of the 31st,fine. Im still waiting for it, they sent me a notice that its stuck in Maryland for God sakes. No apology, no "heres a small gift card for the trouble", just sit and wait. Unbelievable customer service, product performance, its all a mess!! Upset!

Excellent sound . Really easy set up for someone who has little electrical knowledge. Only complaint is that my tv sound and the systems sound turn on at the same time . I’m guessing there is some setting I missed.

Hooked this up a week ago, sounds awesome in my one bedroom apartment living room, definitely recommend for the money. It's not a crazy overpriced unit, and my living room is 15x15 and it sounds awesome...I keep my subwoofer just past half way, and that carries enough base to fill my room and give a nice theater affect. I had the lower model last year and it's good too, but this is a better unit. I don't even use the WiFi features, not really sure what you would want them for? I got al smart TV and I'm not subscribing to Internet stations, so I really don't need that feature, but it's nice to know it's there.

Works very well with my tv, my Blue-ray player, and for the surround for my music (all different brand names). The sub-woofer works great, and the speakers were easy to hook up and adjust with the receiver. The system also features a remote that is easy to use. The sound is awesome. I was impressed with this theater system for the price, as I had tried others.

I bought the Yamaha YHT-5960 looking for a complete solution, and it did not disappoint. Setup was simple, everything came well organized and ready to connect. Within an hour I was enjoying true surround sound. What impressed me the most was the clarity of the dialogue in movies and the deep punchy bass from the included subwoofer. Explosions and effects sound powerful without distortion, even at high volume. Having 8K HDMI with eARC makes it fully future-proof, and the built-in Wi-Fi with MusicCast lets me control everything from my phone with ease. For someone who doesn’t want to buy each piece separately, this package is perfect: receiver, five speakers, and subwoofer all balanced out of the box. I’ve tried soundbars before, but none come close to the immersive experience of a true 5.1 system like this. If you’re looking for a home theater setup that delivers cinema-like immersion, easy installation, and Yamaha quality, don’t think twice. This system has exceeded my expectations in every way.

Small but big bang for your buck

The Yamaha YHT-5960 is a fantastic all-in-one home theater system that punches well above its weight in terms of value and performance. I was genuinely impressed by the sound quality—crisp dialogue, immersive surround effects, and rich mids that make movies and music come alive. The receiver alone is a powerhouse and would cost a pretty penny if bought separately, so getting it bundled with the full setup feels like a steal. Setup was straightforward, and the system integrates beautifully with modern tech—HDMI 2.1, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and MusicCast for wireless streaming. It’s future-proofed for 8K and gaming enhancements too, which is a huge plus. My only gripe? The subwoofer. It’s compact and doesn’t deliver the deep, room-shaking bass you might expect from a full theater setup. It’s fine for casual use, but if you’re a bass enthusiast, you might want to upgrade that component. Overall, this system offers serious bang for your buck and is perfect for anyone looking to elevate their home entertainment without breaking the bank.

Powerful Surround Sound System for 1 Bed Apartment

Just purchased last week and so far - so good. I have a one bedroom apartment and the unit it PLENTY loud. I'm not a super audiophile but the system has a deep, rich sound out of the box and the surround sound is really great and makes you feel like you're in a movie theatre. You WILL spend 2 - 3 days tweaking settings to your liking and there are A LOT of variables that will effect how this sounds in your personal space. The YPAO microphone (included) will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you but I still found myself futzing with the speaker levels to suit my liking even after running the speaker balancing set up program. I can verify that this does, indeed, offer 4k UHD HDR pass through @ 60hz. Of course, your TV has to support this as well in order for it to work and don't forget to adjust your TVs HDMI input manager so that it allows it to accept the passthrough. This took me a couple days to figure out. I watched John Carpenter's "The Thing" and "Blade Runner" on physical 4k UHD discs and can attest the 5.1 surround sound is pretty great. Felt like I was sitting in the movie theatre. No - it does not decode Dolby Atmos but unless you have a 9.1 Atmos speaker set up - you're not getting Dolby Atmos anyway no matter what your TV / Streaming service says. It has all your major AV inputs - HDMI x 4, EARC x 1, Coaxial, Optical, and RCA. Very nice considering many amps are fading RCA and Optical. A heads up that while, yes, this is a "Home Theatre In A Box" it is not "plug and play" like a sound bar. You will spend a good a few hours getting the speakers where you want them and dressing the wires. I would really recommend picking up an extra spool of speaker wire because they give you JUST ENOUGH for all the included ones. If you miscalculate a wire measurement or have a really big room you're setting this up in, you will probably need the extra. Then - once you get it set up - you will dive down the rabbit hole of tweaking the settings and getting the sound to where you like it. If you don't have a passing knowledge of home audio set up - this will most likely be a frustrating, but not insurmountable, experience for you. Overall I am happy with this purchase and it does what I wanted it to do. Four stars for now. I will change to five stars once the promised HDMI 2.1 / 4K 120hz passthrough hardware upgrade is released.

Wanted an upgrade from a low end Denon receiver. Also needed a new sub, so figured I would get a new set. Small to mid size living room, this sounds nice. Watched a couple movies and it sounded great. I had to return the first one, 1 day in and the receiver blew, smoke and electric smell everywhere. I figure was just a dud. BB replaced no issues. Some issues with Apple TV, but some tinkering and googling has guides specific for this receiver. Passes 4k no problem from the Apple TV, just don't let it go to sleep. Connected to my Samsung TV with ARC hdmi port, the apple remote turns on the receiver and tv, happy wife, lol. Easy to use. Still tweeking, so many settings and options.

    Decent but inconsistent operation

The sound is decent but operationally, it’s clunky at best. First issue, getting the receiver to actually switch to the active input automatically is hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If I want it to switch to the HDMI input for my Nintendo switch, I have to manually change it. Second issue, the lipsync function is inconsistent. While the sound lag is subtle, it’s enough to drive me to spend an hour trying to get it right. The fact that the menu to set the lipsync delay takes up the entire screen makes it difficult. I have pull up the settings menu, set the delay time then exit the menu to see if the sound is in sync. If it’s not then I have to repeat opening the settings menu and try ago. Wash, rinse, repeat. Third issue, there are sporadic times that the screen and sound stop for a second and then comes back on. It’s not every time and I have not figured out a possible cause yet but it is annoying when it happens at a very intense moment in a movie or show. Now for the positive, playing music sounds great. It’s definitely not a top of the line system but for the price the sound is good. I bought this to replace an older sound bar that had a wireless subwoofer that kept cutting out. Having a wired subwoofer was the primary reason I sought out getting a home theater system in the first place.

Very good HTIB that performs with good solid sound. The surround sound is quite good and the Yamaha tools [YPAO] used in setting it up work very well. I preferred being able to listen to the system via wireless headphones but Best Buy experts, via chat and phone calls, informed me that it’s not possible. Wrongo. I guess I’m smarter than the reputable Geek Squad folks who wrongly informed me. It IS possible but does take a bit of trial & error. This receiver does have working Bluetooth out capability. This is a very good value for the performance it delivers. The only real disappointment is on Yamaha for providing a fairly lame manual as there’s a lot of functions one simply must figure out along the way.

I have this system hooked to a PS5, blu-ray player and a streaming device. I can confirm that the PS5 runs games at 120hz. 4K quality is impressive. Sound quality is great. eARC sound works well. No issues to report here. Setup was fairly easy. To be clear, I barely used the app and I haven't explored any of the streaming capabilities of this device. Firmware was auto-updated by the app, which is nice. My only 2 complaints: - The grids on the metal case are huge. This device is sitting on the basement, where a lot of dust accumulates. I've decided to cover it when not in use, because of the damage that dust could cause to the electrical components. - The wire that comes for the speakers needs to be prepared (the endings need to be cut, stripped, etc); there are no plugs or anything. Understandable, but it added significant time for the installation. Biggest problem is that the wire might be too short; I don't have a lot of space and I'm about 2 feet short right now. I can live with it, but it's mildly annoying. None of those issues would prevent me from recommending this unit, however. It is a great device for the price.

The unit has great sound and meets more than my need. It works seamlessly with my Samsung TV. The reason I downgraded it to a 4 was because it did not come with an owners manual which was referenced for more information in quick start guide. When I called customer service I was told I could download a manual for free or pay for one. I did finally receive one after threatening to return the unit as I felt I had already paid for one.
