I had been craving a big RPG to get lost in since finishing Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Every game I tried failed to fill the void... until Ys VIII. Love this game! Much shorter ramp up than XC2 (minutes not hours) and such a fast and fun combat system. Good characters and story, too. Must have for any RPG fan on Switch!

This is a great RPG with super fun gameplay. While on a voyage with many other passengers, the ship capsizes and Adol is stranded on an mysterious island. His time is spent looking for other survivors and building a community of trades. You can craft, fish, and go in side quests. I’m about 20 hours in and I still have a long way to go. The story is a little slow and the graphics are an eye sore while docked. There are also random frame drops but nothing major. I’m giving is 4 stars because 5 stars is reserved for near perfect games. I would definitely buy again and refer to a friend.

This is a great RPG for the Switch. Side by side with the PS4 version, this port runs almost identically. It may be slightly slower due to the Switch hardware, but unless you have them next to one another you're not going to notice a difference. This is a good option if you can't find the PS4 version or you can but it's overpriced due to scarcity.

Fans of Tales of Vesperia, Octopath or Shining Resonance will absolutely love this title for it's amazing gameplay, driven story and action oriented combat system. Graphics are beautiful and the characters all provide their own level of style and sophistication that makes playing through worth the experience!

Let me start off by saying I do not play many JRPG's, but I happened to stumble upon this game and it is such a hidden gem. I feel like this game is not talked about enough or at all. The story is amazing, and the character development is what makes this game so great. You really get into this game after just a few hours in, though the beginning is somewhat slow to start. There's a good amount of customizing that can be done, clothing, abilities, etc. It's pretty open world to an extent, and many side quests to do. The game is not that difficult, but it does give you a challenge. I put in 60+ hours to 100% this game, and I don't regret it at all. One of the best games I've played in a really long time. The graphics are probably the weak point of this game, but don't blame it on the switch because it was originally made for the PS vita from my understanding and then ported over. Doesn't look much better on the PS4 either believe me. You definitely want to pick this game up because you'd probably get a couple play throughs out of it.

This game has great music, gameplay, and story. It has everything you need for a great game to dive into.

Bought and played this game on the PS4. Bought it again for the Switch. Excellent edition with a few trinkets inside (map and 3 playing cards). Love the addition of free DLC costumes exclusive to the Switch version. Playing on the go is a breeze and love playing this JRPG again!

I've been a fan of the Ys series since Ys 1&2 on the turbografx 16. Which happens to be in my top 5 games of all time. This is a great edition to the series. Gameplay,grafics,story etc are all great. It's the best of the last few editions and I'm glad I picked it up.

This is a great action jrpg. Fun cast of characters and a decent mystery story. The gameplay is fun if not simple. I will say this game doesn't look that great sure to it being a downscaled ps4 game, but it gets credit from me for being smooth and portable.

I got this game so I could have something to play while octopath traveler release, but man I was surprise by the quality of it, one of the best rpgs I have played in a while, I loved wverything about it, but especially the music, and the story a must have!

This is a really fun game. Story is solid and combat is a lot of fun. It is really cliche and definitely has a lot of Japanese influences. But it is a lot of fun and if you want a new game that is long and enjoyable, this should certainly be a contender.

Very engaging action jrpg. If you haven't played this on any other console, now is your chance. Good story, entertaining characters and fun combat make for a good time on the go with your Switch. If you only want to play in docked mode on the TV then I'd suggest the PS4 version. But if you're going to play on the go, this is a perfect way to play.

I did not know what to expect as I have never played a Ys game, but no prior knowledge necessary. Really great story and fun action RPG gameplay. Large world to explore and fast load times. Over 60 hours of entertainment.

I have loved the Ys series for years. Great characters, story, and action. You don’t need to have played any in the past to jump into this one. Already looking forward to the next one getting localized here in NA.

Great story great game play so many characters and special moves and combos to keep things fresh till the end !! Don’t want to spoil anything so you’re going to have to try it for yourself !!

Fun RPG game with an action packed battle system. Great graphics and gameplay. Story seems interesting so far. I think this is one of the better Ys games in the series.

Best Hidden Gem on the Switch!!! I loved this game... its and adventure and a great story. I found the battles way more fun then Xenoblade Chronicles 2! Check this one out!

I loved Ys 8 on nintendo switch! This was my first entry in the series and they did a great job introducing characters and gameplay mechanics for someone new to the Ys series. The combat is fantastic, probably my favorite AJRPG so far. The only complaint I have would be the graphics. At times they can look pretty good for the switch, but there are also times where it is laughably bad. It seems that is the case in all versions, the switch port just has a lower frame rate which I didn't mind at all, I found it to run extremely smooth. Other than that, I can't reccomend this game enough if you are a fan of adventure games or action rpgs!

If you love Xenoblade Chronicles and Zelda, this game is the both of them combined. I didn’t know how I’d feel about it, I’ve never played Ys before. But the characters are fun, as is the story line. The island is massive and there is so much to explore and collect, so if you like doing that, you’ll like the game. The game is semi-open world, it does have to load areas and such but loading times are quick. I will say, the quality of the port isn’t the best, sometimes the frames drop in a noticeable way, I feel if Xenoblade runs solid with no issues, this one should also. But, it’s minor, this is a great game for any jrpg fans

This is one of the most fun games I have ever played. Very difficult to put down. Simple game mechanics that are easy to learn and never get old with a great story as well.
