    Cool Upgrade So Far!

The ZAGG Rugged Keyboard Folio case series is the most reliable, sturdy, functional and generally useful iPad Air 2 case available at Best Buy (well worth the price). I had an older version of this (specifically Model: ID6RGK-BBO, SKU: 9869101) for my iPad Air 2 for nearly a full year (quite a feat, considering the many other keyboard-detachable/drop-safe/iPad-stand cases I tried - which all fell apart in a few weeks or less). With the old case, I was super impressed with how FEW times I needed to charge the keyboard (2 maybe 3 times total over the whole year, and that’s with me using the backlit lights daily) as well as how long the hinge lasted (that stands the iPad up). As a college student, I probably use my iPad an average of 8+ hours a day for homework/personal use. The only reason why I got this new model now (and left behind the old one) was because the old model’s hinge was getting a little loose after a year, but it did still hold my iPad up at a 90 degree angle (many of the other angles were too loose to hold it up anymore). I had dropped it a couple times too over the past year, and my iPad never got a scratch/crack. In terms of this newer version, it seems exactly the same so far except for two features: the volume buttons and backlit key options. The old version had only-white backlit keys and the black case completely covered the outer buttons (but were indented and a little thinner to indicate/access their location). This new version has 6 new color options for backlit keys (plus white, making 7) and has completely exposed iPad volume buttons. The new colors are really neat, but I’m not a big fan of the exposed volume buttons. While the old covered-buttons were kinda hard to press due to the case rigidness, they were more easily accessable than with this new exposed design. The exposed area may look big, but due to where the iPad Air 2 sits in the case it takes a slim fingertip to reach and press the volume buttons (rather than the whole pad of a finger, like with the old design). No, my iPad can’t be pushed in any farther to close this gap. As a relatively small-sized female though, it’s not impossible for me to change the volume with this new case. For those interested, the backlit key color options with this new model are: neon green, navy blue, teal/light-blue, pale yelow/green?, apple red, pale purple, and the classic white. Overall, the ZAGG Rugged Keyboard Folio case series is the most reliable, sturdy, functional and generally useful iPad Air 2 case available at Best Buy (well worth the price). The only other thing I wish this case could do, is have a vertical viewing option as well as a horizontal one (as a stand). However, if you decide to try/buy any other case, I highly recommend that you get a protection plan for it as well.

I purchased this for an iPad 6th generation 2018 model—it is the same non-pro model sold for educational use and is the lowest priced iPad. I make a point to say this because Apple`s naming scheme is confusing. This case is designed to work with the iPad Pro 9.7, iPad Air 2, and the iPad 6th generation (the one I have). However, the iPad 6th generation is .29” thick versus .24” thick. For this reason, it would be more challenging to get the iPad under the lip of the case. I was concerned I would break the iPad. However, everything seems like it lines up with the buttons and ports. This also means, one is likely to have issues trying to use a thin screen protector without damaging it while inserting into the case. The hinge is stiff! It is so stiff I thought I would break it very quickly under normal use. I thought about trying to use the case as two separate pieces without using the hinge. I did not plan on rotating the hinge and would just leave it so I could slide the cover back under it. I really liked the slim, protective case and backlit keyboard! However, there is no stand on the back of the cover that goes over the iPad. I found a stick-on kickstand that may have worked, but it was an additional cost already on top of the retail price I had already paid for the case. The pros are the case is very rugged, and the backlit keyboard worked well. This case could be a very functional, rugged case with a few design changes. I wish Zagg would have made the rugged book PRO for this iPad. It has the design I am looking for without these issues and had the multiple pair option. The alternative to the rugged book Pro by another manufacturer does not offer any impact protection and was the same price. I returned the Zagg Rugged Book. I purchased it at the retail price, and I felt there were too many compromises. I ended up purchasing another case from Best Buy, an Otterbox that happened to be on sale, and will just use a separate keyboard.

These keyboard cases are used for call reports on our ambulances. They almost exclusively used inside the vehicles and not outside/on the scene- so they aren't dropped or really even abused any more than in other users' experiences, We bought one initially for the 2017 model iPad and then bought three more for the 2018 model iPad. We've had this version for the past seven or eight months, and so here's my review based on that. We chose this case over others due to its ruggedness, backlit keyboard, and the fact that it's a name-brand, but the initial rollout for the 2018 model was abysmal. Zagg's own support said this case didn't support the new (now current) model when the BestBuy website said it was for the new (now current) model, so we were stuck trying to figure out a solution to protect the three newer iPads we bought. I had to just buy these and hope they were what we needed since the UPC was different than the 2017 version. The case is "rugged" in the sense that it will protect the iPad from drops, but we've had issues with three out of four of our cases (the three that are regularly used which are for the three newer tablets we have) where the hinges are loosening up drastically and are no longer able to hold the iPad upright after just the slightest movement. This happened just a couple of months of use, and for the price of the product, I would've expected better. The hinges were incredibly stiff at first, but now they're very very loose. The other thing that I dislike is that this case uses micro-usb to charge itself, given that we've already had a few cables break and it's non-reversible like lightning and USB-C cables. The overall build quality apart from this issue is good and I really like the detachable, multi-color backlit bluetooth keyboard, but the loose hinge issue is something that is a common annoyance anytime we use this product.

I won’t go full review mode on you, but I will say that this keyboard case is quite the build. Some have had issues with the case’s hinge, but I don’t find that to be an issue. (So far) However, I will say that Best Buy did offer a protection plan for two years, so I went ahead and got that just to be safe. Also ZAGG has great customer service as well and I made sure to register the product on their website. The Case itself, is sturdy and I feel confident that I wont break my iPad if I were to drop it. Keyboard took a while to get used to, but once I did, I was at my normal pace in typing. Backlight is a nice touch and I didn’t know it had different colors as well! Super excited about that. The magnets are strong, and the hinge. (So far) is nice and sturdy. I recommended this case, and spend the extra for the protection. The case is pricey and doesn’t have a place for my Apple Pencil, would be my only gripe. Overall, GREAT CASE

A very sturdy, solid case. Should protect well when closed. The protection does come with the price of weight. It’s a heavy case. So if you travel with your pad, be sure you’re OK with the weight. The hinge allows you to position the screen at any angle and, so far at least, the positioning is held solidly. The case has a very nice built-in keypad with adjustable color key backlighting. A boon for low light typing. If desired, the pad can be easily separated from the keyboard. Here’s my only real complaint. While you can separate the pad from the keyboard, significantly lowering carry weight, there’s nothing that then covers and protects the screen, making the separated pad pointless for travel. Thus the one star knock. I’m forced to give a “no” recommendation only because the option given provides no ability to qualify. It depends.

I’ve been a big fan of ZAGG keyboards, especially the Rugged. However, with the new design, they aren’t as rugged as they used to be. The last Rugged Book I purchased only lasted a year before the hinge fell apart. I just purchased a new one on January 2019, and it’s been back to the manufacturer twice now for a warranty replacement. The worst part is that you cannot return it to Best Buy, you have to return it to ZAGG, and you get stuck with paying shipping for your replacement AND shipping to send them back the defective one. The problems I encountered with 3 week old ZAGG Rugged Book was a faulty hinge ( again!) and a broken Bluetooth button that popped and hissed like it was fried. For a product that costs $150 retail, they really need to do better.

Here’s why I’m giving it four stars: This thing makes your iPad weigh as much as a full-size computer. Of course, it wouldn’t be as rugged if it weighed less. Pros: — Heavy-duty protection — A solid keyboard with real keys that is easy to type on, even for those with fairly large hands (like me) — The part protecting the iPad itself can release from the keyboard, letting you use it as a traditional tablet — The battery life is insane. If you don’t use the keyboard much, it’ll hold a charge for two years! Cons: — It’s heavy — And ugly — The hinge seems to be the weakest part. I could see it loosening up to the point where it won’t hold your iPad in an upright position. Otherwise it’s great.

The magnetic hinge is the best and I also love how protective it is. I've already dropped my tablet twice and it's done its job with aplomb. It's still early days, but suffice it to say that I will be enjoying my Rugged Book whatever whatever for years to come. Or until the model comes out--You know, that's something that the tablet and phone industry is using to drain us of our hard-earned dollars. With every new model that comes out, they've moved the power button, or gotten rid of the audio jack, just so you have to buy another case! Well I'm sick and tired of it. And I'll tell you what, I'll just have to stick with my fifth generation iPad so that I can have the Zagg Rugged Book Keyboard Folio whatever for all my days.

Picked this up at a local store today and so far I really like it. Yes, it adds some bulk and weight to the iPad however, I like the fact that this feels well protected as a result. Typing is easy to do and there is no noticeable lag when typing. Pairing was a breeze. I have owned similar Zagg keyboard folios in the past but this one is much better than the old version on my original iPad 3. Only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because it does not have any latching mechanism when everything is closed up. Even then, I would be picky about how that goes together. Definitely recommend this to someone looking for a rugged case and tactile typing solution.

The iPad 6 gen fits perfectly with a screen protector on. The detachable carrying case is lightweight, taking into consideration the weight of the entire book. The keyboard is easy to type on and big enough that I am able to type with the feel of regular keyboard versus some that are small and make typing feel restricted. I have not had any issues with the hinge or connection mentioned by other reviewers. Only complaint is overall weight when case is attached to keyboard, it is certainly not something you would want hold for extended periods of time.

This case is wonderul and everything that I wanted in an iPad case. It protects the iPad, it detached from the keyboard. It connects seamlessly. The battery life is fantastic. Despite my wide hands, this keyboard is still very capable of keeping up with my mail, pages, and google docs usage. The illuminated keyboard is a nice touch in low light situations. The hinge is magnetic and is very strong and holds the iPad in place and at my desired viewing/typing angle. My only gripe is the price at $129. But because this was the only case that met all my needs, I paid the price. I would easily purchase this again if it were $80-100.

Zagg rugged keyboard case definitely out performs the Logitech Create iPad Pro keyboard case. I had the Logitech for about 3 months in my backpack only case cracked on upper left corner. This did not affect case from retaining iPad. The follow up issue is the smart connector became intermittent and eventually stopped working. The Bluetooth interface did not work after multiple attempts to connect. There is a slight weight difference between the Zagg and Logitech but Quality is more important. I been using past three months at home and on travel with no complaints. Only charged keyboard once and still going strong.

This is the 3rd casing I’ve purchased for IPads of varying sizes. Without a doubt this is the best I’ve owned. The casing itself is a tough as its name implies. The keyboard is surprisingly slim and lightweight. The best two features are that the IPad and it’s casing is not only detachable from the keyboard but it can also be attached to a screen front and back position. This allows you to show those nearby your screen and you can still control the keyboard. It is priced right and most handy in my usage of my IPad. I highly recommend this product.

I have had so many keyboards, but none like this one. I was a little turned off by the price, but now I can say that it is truly worth it. The keys on the keyboard are smooth to the touch. The keys are arranged just light a regular keyboard and you don’t have to fix your hands in any awkward position in order to type. The backlight, which can be changed to different colors and different levels of brightness, are a very nice touch. I would buy this keyboard again without a shadow of a doubt.

I bought this keyboard case to replace my Logitech case, which failed after only three months of use. This keyboard case is much more substantial, and everything works just fine so far. My concern is that the plastic holders of the iPad portion seem cheap and flimsy. The hinges attached to the holders are also stiff and leave me constantly worrying that they will snap if I don’t support them while I open, adjust, and close the case on itself.

This protective case and integrated keyboard are a great addiction to your iPad. The battery duration for the keyboard is excellent (the claim is more than a year for a single charge). The case is rugged and does a good job of protecting the tablet. The design it different than a similar product by the same company for larger iPads that I have used for over a year. I am a little more wary of the hinging and connecting mechanisms but time with tell.

I travel around and use an Ipad for work. I tried using other bluetooth keyboards, but a couple of drops resulting in the case breaking. This case protects against drops and has built in keyboard. I also like the fact that I can separate keyboard from unit and still keep it protected from falls. I wish there was a built in stand, when not connected to the keyboard. That would make this product 6 out of 5 stars.

First off, this case will protect your ipad. It is very rugged. However, I bought this case for my ipad Air 2 and there are no holes for the speakers. The last two Zagg cases I bought had holes for the speakers. Sound quality is somewhat degraded at lower volumes. Zagg seemed to have designed this item as a 'one size fits all' ipad case. Unfortunately Zagg may have gotten a little lazy in their design division.

I was a little worried after placing my iPad in this. The cover kept "Snapping off" whenever I would open or close the iPad. My mistake - if you read the directions (which I did not) it tells you to hold one end of the keyboard case and with the other hand the iPad. Once I did this, no issues at all. The keyboard works and connects easily. I am typing this review with it! Got it on sale so I paid half price and got all of the benefits.

I went into the store to purchase a protector for my iPod. I use an Otter Box for my iPhone and this seems to be as rugged with a key board to boot! Now I have a mini lap top. Convienent and easy to use. It takes a concerted effort to remove the iPod from the keyboard so this is an awesome product. No reason to worry about inadvertent separation. Keeping Blue Tooth on all the time does not seem to affect the battery life, so this is a winner in all aspects.
