this fax modem sucks,and would not tell anyone its good as it sucks the big one

I previously bought a USB Fax Modem for less than half this price thru BestBuy Marketplace vendor, but it was not very good at all. It was advertised as a US Robotics product but what was shipped was a no-name substitute instead. I tried to install it anyway, but never could get the driver files to recognize the device, and support from the vendor was extremely poor. So I returned the cheap one, and instead bought this Zoom vendor USB modem directly thru BestBuy. It seems a bit overpriced at $50, more than twice the price of the other, but a world of difference in ease of installation. Very complete install instructions on both paper and CD, and the setup program was VERY smooth. It was immediately recognized by my computer, and set up very quickly using the Windows 7 built in fax software. (One disclaimer to note: I have installed this device, and verified Windows 7 fax software recognizes it, but have not actually sent nor received a fax, so have not actually tested it. I'm confident it will work fine since everything else about it seems very high quality, but have not actually sent a fax. Other reviewers of this product however have given very good reviews of its actual performance)

I have owned the Zoom Product since April 2013. I waited to give a review so that I could give a review " Good or Bad". Zoom USB Fax Modem has lived up to it rep. I think it's a bit pricy. That old saying is: "You pay for what you get". It small and compacted and do not take up space. Zoom has produce a good product and I do recommend this to a friend and to someone who is looking to compact work space and who also have the Application on their computer.

An ease to install, and works great. I feel it is a little over priced, but with hotels charging $14.99 a day for wireless-it will pay for itself in no time.

Being stuck with Dial-up, and not having an internal modem in the new computer that I bought, the Zoom modem fills the bill. A bit on the pricy side, as you can find internals for far less, though not at Best Buy. Connected easily and is at least as fast as my old internal.

Bought this for my laptop as it didn't have a modem. It works great and is very compact so that it doesn't take up a lot of room. Very easy to operate.

My friend is in a non cable/DSL area and has become unemployed and does not have computer skills. I helped find a reasonalbly priced desk top computer but it came without an internal modem and HP said we needed to get an internal one added to do dial up. I called the Wausau Best Buy store to see if they had an external and the person I talked to knew exactly what I wanted and put it on order. I later looked at it on line and it was perfect. It only took a couple of days to arrive and my friend is now on line with dial up.

Being the only person in the US with a dial up modem still, I was disappointed to see that my brand spankin new Macbook did not have a dial up connector. Apparently everyone who owns macs has high speed internets! (lucky)!!! So the salesman told me about this little USB miracle. I plugged it right into the mac, set up the phone line line, and BAM dial up internet! Very quick installation and works better then I was expecting. I know it does even more then I need but I tell you, well worth the purchase. I'm pleased.

I got this modem with the Toshiba L655D-S5109 that was on sale for blackfriday. as i live where theres no hi-speed of any sort. It connects far faster than the PCI modem that i have been using with my desktop nearly since 2005. the connect speeds are always above 36k/bits. and the download speeds are above 4k/bits, it was easy eoungh to install, and the company offering more updated drivers that what came with the product is a great plus. With Netzero Hi-speed 3g, its a great deal for dial-up the page loads are great and hardly any sort of time outs. Zoom is now my go to modem company for now on. If your not getting download speeds above 4k/bits, contact your phone company and inform them. also if you have humming/noise on the line. that can for sure effect your connection/download speed.

Product worked just as advertised. It was truly plug & play for my laptop running Windows 7. It's compact and easy to use.

We are a medical practice and with one of our Medicare carriers we must submit claims via a dial up modem. With so many of the newer computers fewer are offering a telephone line into the back of the computer. This USB modem is a perfect solution. I simply plugged it into the USB on the front of my computer and the other end into a telephone jack. Transmitted medical data flawlessly.

This modem was intended to buy us some time to research new fax machines, but using the Windows Fax & Scan program (already installed on our Vista desktop) has been so easy and mostly problem-free that we may not buy a new machine. The only drawback is that faxes are sent and received at the one workstation, but we are a small enough office that it works.

I am only reviewing the fax capability of this modem. I am running Mac OS 10.6.8 on an iMac. I did not install the software that came with this modem. All I did was plug this modem in and add it as a fax under Print & Fax in System Preferences. Within a minute or two of plugging this in, I was sending my first fax (2 page doc) with no issues and at a quick speed.

I was not aware that you could purchase this type of modem. I was made aware of it by a salesperson. I would truly recomend it for times when you have no dsl or satillite signal as a back up or just as your primary source of e-mail and searching the web. Great Modem!!

It works with Windows 7 but you must have internet access already in order to go the company's support page to download the Win 7 driver. For something that is meant to connect you to the internet this could be a problem . . .

If you're still tied to dialup and get a new pc that has no dialup support built-in, the Zoom USB External Modem is a terrific solution. It's extremely easy to install (typical of USB devices) and performs really well. It gets through its connection negotiation very quickly and is just easy to use.

My internal modem was not compatible with Windows 7. This was a perfect solution to replacement. It was cheap, small, easy to use and easy to install (just plug it into a USB port). A perfect product.

I HAD TO BUY AN EXTERNAL MODEM BECAUSE MY NEW COMPUTER DIDN'T HAVE ONE AND AT PRESENT TIME MY AREA DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH WIRELESS HOOKUPS. THE PRODUCT ITSELF IS GREAT AND EASY TO INSTALL. THANK HEAVEN THEY MAKE THEM BECAUSE OTHER WISE I COULDN'T USE MY DIAL UP INTERNET. THE PRICE I THINK IS A LITTLE HIGH FOR SUCH A SMALL ITEM.

As a person that uses locations in Illinois and Wisconsin but does not want to pay for high speed internet at both locations, this USB modem was a logical and practical solution for my needs.

I think this is a good tool, because my computer did not have a Internal Modem installed already when I bought it, so I had to buy one of these to use my fax system on my all-in-one printer. It worked out good.
