The Zoom H4N PRO is the perfect device to create high quality recording from a variety of different sources. Very thing from the sound of chipping birds to a high volume stack of guitar amps can be recorded with meticulous accuracy. The compact size makes it easy to carry in a jacket pocket. I use my zoom for the main audio source when I am recording with my Canon mirror less camera. Give it a try. I think you'll be impressed.

Perfect sound, can be laggy. Needs new processor.

The little XY mics on this unit are absolutely legit- every bit as good as a Shure SM58 or better. A bit brighter for sure. BUT: this unit is an older design and badly needs a faster processor. It can be VERY slow to boot up at times and to format cards. So don't think "last minute". I suggest you use no bigger than a 4 to 8GB card. That size gives you MANY HOURS of recording time at 256 in .mp3 format anyway. You can try a 64 or 128GB card, but you'll see why I say all this. I use an older 4GB card and it formats, operates menus, and boots acceptably- but never "fast". Expect 3-4 minutes to format a newer 16GB card, and generally laggy ops (at times). This unit can be SLOOOWWWWWWWW!!! The old skool mini USB 2.0 port allows you to use the H4N Pro as an ultra high quality, 2 channel XLR mono podcast blitzing machine by adding pro 52v phantom condenser mics if you want. Also, I can guarantee that you WILL break the little XY condenser mics on top at some point, which are not really replaceable. Gorilla glue works great. This is exactly why Zoom added a "cage" to newer models. Overall one cannot argue with sound quality- it is as good as it gets, period. Last pro tip- buy the OEM Zoom power adapter on Amazon for surprisingly cheap. The H4N Pro absolutely murders AA's. In fact, you MUST run Lithium AA's if no 110v adapter is used. Expect two Lithium AA's to last 8-10 hours or so, and regular alkaline AA's MIGHT get 1 or 2 hours. Worse, the cheap batteries (Harbor Freight, etc.) will barely power up the H4N Pro at all, and may last 30 minutes. Yes...for real. Enjoy!

Great value for a full-featured field recorder

This has been my friend for years without fail for field recordings, and as a backup to my audio interface when recording voiceover and other projects while traveling. The only negatives are battery life, startup time and a bit of hiss in the mic pres. Also, the menu interface could be a bit more intuitive. Other than that, it's fantastic, especially when considering the price.

Honestly, considering this is final get all be all for recorders I find it sound quality pretty decent. The settings can be overwhelming sometime, but with practice you’ll be able to use as bad boy like it’s nothing. It’s a little bulky, but with the proper set up mounted, you could probably get away with that easily.

Perfect external audio recorder for my video production business. I love that I can record with this in various ways depending on my audio set-up for a shoot. It records high quality sound and has a great filing system. Only wish the navigation of the menu was a bit more modern tech, but at the same time it's simple.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I need something to record audio for podcast or voice overs, also to record sound effect and needed something with a XLR input and this one has two, so that's great. Only make sure that you carry extra batteries because it only takes two and it eats them fast

I’ve had mine since the came out and absolutely love it. I use it for podcasting on the go. I hook up 2 Dynamic Microphones to it and it is a complete in the field recorder for podcasting. Record my show and the take the sd card and upload to my laptop. Do any corrections and then export to MP3 or MP4 to be used anywhere.

Great audio recorder. Many features for all types of recording. Sound quality is excellent. Only issue is the menu system takes some getting used to as accessing the features and various setups can be a challenge but is to be expected as a trade off for such a versatile product.

I’ve been doing multiple styles of vocals in a few different projects and have used this thing exclusively for vocals and my acoustic guitar. First off, this thing is powerful! So many options and effects to get you inspired to create. I’ve done light singing, belting, and even screaming for some heavier songs and this thing is a powerhouse. I usually have it set to 0.9 input on the mic and it does the job and does it well. I run it through Logic on my MacBook and it can be used as an interface as well as portable recording. This thing has pretty much replaced my Shure SM7B which is TWICE THE COST! and considered an industry standard. Do not sleep on this product!

I got this primarily for recording my guitars and ukuleles. The sound is great and I can also use my external condenser mic. The signal to noise ratio is excellent and the device is easy to use. I bought an AC supply for it to save on batteries.
