    Dissapointed in Options

    Posted .

We bought this product to install in our fathers car. The safety zone feature was the main reason for purchsing Zoombak. Unfortunately the safety zone is very limited in its area (1/2 mile). This is barely enough area to get out of his neighborhood! I talked to Zoombak but there is no way to increase the safety zone. The feature is a waste of time unless you are walking; but the unit is made for a vehicle. The options should allow for 1,5 and 10 miles. If you need a larger coverage area Zoombak is not for you.

    Product OK with a caveat

    Posted .

Thought this product was a good idea for my daughters' cars. Then I thought of the GPS Nav system in my car. It does not work indoors - garage, parking deck, etc. If a Zoombacked vehicle is taken and parked indoors, I will not be able to find it. LoJack suits my purposes better since it is a transmitter based system and can be located regardless of whether it is indoors. LoJack combined with my daughters' cellular system based "GPS" on their cell phones, I can eventually locate either.

Don't Be Fooled By The Low Price...Poor Product

    Posted .

I bought this product for my motorcycle. The price was great and it had a lot of features. It was simple to activate and set up. During activation you must select a monthly plan, I choose to prepay 12 months for $9.99/month. In total this unit cost about $300, much cheaper than the other gps devises out there. It worked great for about 2 months, and I thought I had found an awesome product, but then everything fell apart...The GPS devise would no longer locate. First I tried contacting Zoombak via there "Live Chat," it took me numerous attempts to get someone on the other side. Rather than listening to your problem they walk you through some checklist to diagnos the problem. So after there checklist doesn't locate the unit they say they will Escalate it to the "tech department" for 24-48 hours. Now I had to wait 2 days and "I" had to contact them, not the other way around. Tried contacting them again via"live chat" but could not connect to anyone, then called the support number ( I'm not sure where their customer service is but they do not speak English well) but the line was busy so they give you the choice of leaving a voicemail and say they will call you back asap, they never called me back. I tried again the next day and actually got someone on the line who said my unit was faulty. There were sending me a new one. They force you to sign up for another 12 month term while activating a replacement unit. Guess what, my replacement did not work. By this point I was fed up with Zoombak and wanted my money back. Again after numerous tries at getting ahold of customer service I finally did, they wanted to walk through the checklist again, but I refused. After some complaining on my part they finally said they would refund my money. 10 days later and I had still not received my refund after having been told 3-5 days. So I call them again, turns out they had forgotten about my refund. After more complaining they say they are refunding me ASAP. My advise to you is not to waste your time or money with this product. It may work great for a month or so but after that the headaches won't stop. My biggest complaint with this product is the reliability of the GPS units. Why would you pay for a GPS unit that cannot locate?

Works Well Once Hardware Fix Corrected

    Posted .

This is a follow-up review to a review that I posted 6 months ago. When I purchased this item, there was a hardware issue that arose within approx. 60 days. The female jack that the power cord plugs vibrates loose from road vibration, and causes the unit to short out and power down. I found a work around, and fixed the problem by firmly attaching the power cord to the unit with wire ties. To follow up, this fix has corrected the problem and the unit has functioned perfectly for over six months now. The service provided by Zoombak has been at 100%, and functionality of the unit has been at 100%. While I feel strongly that Zoombak needs to correct this hardware issue, I could not be more satisfied with the service itself. The user interface is amazing. Allows for location tracking, movement / speed notification, map views, satellite picture views, 90 day history, text message locate, and all for about $12 month. By far the most advance GPS tracking unit on the market, and at a very reasonable price.

Works Great for First 2 Months, then Stops Working

    Posted .

I wrote a gleaming review of this product shortly after purchase, and it worked perfectly for the first 2 months. But - as all other users have reported - sure enough, after about two months of use in vehicle with the vehicle installation kit, it simply dropped off of the map. After extensive testing, I believe that I have identified the problem. The female input jack that the power chord plugs into has vibrated loose because of vehicle road vibration, and causes the chord to short the unit out and power down. I contact customer support and reported my findings. I expected Zoombak to be happy that I identified the source of the problem that nearly 100% of users have reported with the units, and be eager to correct the design defect in the product - especially since it is sold with the vehicle mounting kit, specifically for use in vehicles. I was sadly mistaken. The representataive said that she is unwilling / unable to fulfil their warranty obligations, and could not help me. I asked to speak with a supervisor, but was told that none was available. Ugh.... The fix that I have found that seems to be working so far is using a series of wire ties to firmly attach the power chord (vehicle installation kit) to the unit. Not sure how long it will last. What a disappointment and waste of money. Too bad such a great product has to be ruined by design defects, mismanagement and poor customer service.

    Don't Waste Your Money

    Posted .

Just cancelled my service after six months. When it works, it's great. However, the past two months, it has become very unreliable. I live in an area where coverage is supposed to be excellent, however I frequently recieved responses to location queries that the location request and/or tracking requests could not be processed, or unable to communicate with locator. Text message alerts are sometimes hours delayed in arriving to my cell phone.

    finally, peace of mind

    Posted .

I recently purchased the Zoombak universal locater. It was easy to activate and use. Tracking the device using the Zoombak website was easy to learn. I especially like being able to look back over the last day or 2 and see the various locations my locater has been. I soon found however that recharging the locater every few days was a hassle. This was easily solved by ordering the vehicle install kit. It arrive in just a couple of days and installation took only about 15 minutes, most of that was deciding were I wanted to mount it. Now I don't have to remember to retrieve, charge and replace my locater in the vehicle. This device accurately tracks the location of my vehicle, even in areas I though would have minimal cell phone service. The aerial and birdseye views of the device location are often accurate to within 1-2 parking spaces of where the vehicle had been parked. Overall I am very happy with the locater and vehicle install kit.

    Exceeded Expectations

    Posted .

I was somewhat sceptical about purchasing this product after reading some of the reviews, but I have been using it for a couple of months now and have been absolutely amazed by the reliability and accuracy of the Zoombak. I purchased the vehicle installation kit, which was a quick and easy install. I installed on the interior of the vehicle to avoid damage to the unit. It provides real-time tracking of my vehicle, as well as a 90 day history (new software update extended), viewable by map or by address. The "birds eye view" feature shows a high quality picture of the exact location of your vehicle with accuracy within a few parking spaces. It also tracks a moving vehicle, with speed and direction indicators, and has a mobile phone text feature which allows you to receive a text message anytime anywhere that provides the exact location of your vehicle. While I've only had the unit for a few months, and live in a very reliable service area, I have been more than satisfied, and am still in awe of the functionality for the price. I would absolutely recommend this product.

    Terrible Customer Service, Unreliable Product

    Posted .

I received my Zoombak at Christmas time last year. I valued it until July when it stopped reporting where I was. I called Customer Service (in Costa Rica) and was promised it would be fixed. I asked for a call back to let me know status. I have lots of physical challenges and those that love & care for me rely on the device to find me. I once raved about the Zoombak - I miss those days. I finally received a call from Darren, Customer Service Director, in the US. He would not replace my device. I told him after three weeks of no action from them I didn't trust their support. He offered to refund my money rather than send me a new device. I took him up on the offer and have now been waiting over two weeks for my refund. My next step is to the AZ Attorney General. Save your money. Stay away from this product.

    SUCKS!!!

    Posted .

The product worked perfect for the first 4 months. After that, it would not communicate and I must have called their customer service center at least 5 times. They would tell me that they would call me back, never did. I would call them back with the same issue, they say they would have their engineers look at at and call me back, never happened. I talked to two of their suppervisors and the issue was finally fixed. The very next day, same issue. I keep calling them to replace the unit and they keep telling me the samething, that I need to have it in my hand, fully charged, facing the sky. I have done that so many times and they cannot even figure out the issue either. I beleive the unit is malfunctioning but they won't replace it, I have canceled my service with them. Do not buy it!! save your money!!!

    Best Real-time Tracker

    Posted .

I've tried several (very expensive) real-time tracking units and this one is the best bang for the buck. It is cheaper (most units cost $400+ with 25+/month service plans), more reliable (other units had poor reporting behavior and coverage), and easier to use (simple setup, simple web interface, etc.) than other units I've tried. This unit was simple to activate and worked with no problems right out of the box. The online web interface makes creating zones and alerts a snap. The cellular aided GPS works reliably in almost any location in your car. Also, installing the Zoombak "permanently" using the car installation kit is easy. The only additional feature I'd like to see is the ability to query the Zoombak using text messages. Hands down, a great device for that piece of mind!

    Zoombak GPS

    Posted .

I bought this for my Harley, others like the Lo-Jak cost over $1200. and other GPS units are around $700. at less then $300. for the unit and $144. for a year of service, it makes this a real bargin. I can find out where the bike is at any minute. And if it loses power the unit will last for 5 days on the battery. So far I find it to be a WIN WIN. If the bike goes out of my safety zone, it will send me a Text on my phone. It was east to hide on the bike and looks like it belongs there. Buy it, you won't be sorry

    Disappointed

    Posted .

I was very excited to get this product but could not get it to work. I spent about an hour on the phone with customer service (30 minutes was on hold). After an hour I was told either my device was defective or could not get service. She told me the area where i live only has one bar of service. I live in a city of 200,000 and can't get service?

    kind of works

    Posted .

Do not pay a year service because after 30 day use, you will not be given a refund for unused time they charge $100.00 to cancel. half the time the location is more than 100 feet off the mark or sometimes more. it it runs on its own battery you really get two or three days of coverage if your lucky. If the vehicle is in doors it can't locate it. Advice get military grade or wait for advanced devices.

    difference from "Universal Zoombak"

    Posted .

the only real difference between this product and the Universal Zoombak that costs 50 dollars less is the car installation kit. If you don't plan on very securely installing this unit in whatever you are using it in, I suggest buying the Universal unit
