Revolv figured out what everyone else is missing in the home automation space. We want to use best of breed hardware, but control it all from one place. I have no interest in getting locked into one "family" of components. I like that it works with my existing Nest thermostat and smoke detectors (and hopefully dropcams soon) as well as letting me pick the best locks/motion detectors/etc. I've been using it for a little over a month and I couldn't be happier. I also had to contact their customer support to resolve an issue I was having early on. Their support responded immediately even though I was setting up the device at 11pm. No time wasted, great support. I have used a few home automation options and Revolv blows them all out of the water.

Finally bit the bullet and bought the Revolv hub. After researching many options, this one seemed to have the most compatibility with my existing devices and the Revolv team has been praised for their quick response and support. Overall, the hub is very easy to setup. Took less than 5 minutes to be up and running. I would say the hub is a good start, but there is a long way to go to make it truly a useful home automation device. First, some basic functionality doesn't exist in the app. You can't delete a device once created (just hide it). You also cannot inactivate an action. Let's say you have an action to turn your porch lights off every evening at 11 pm. If you are having a party and don't want the action to trigger, you have to delete it then recreate after the party. This basic functionality is something I would have expected from a $300 device. It has me strongly debating on returning the hub and trying a different brand. Revolv says it is working on adding functionality and support for more devices, though it seems that this is slow (some of Revolv's messages saying it is adding support for certain devices are months old and support still isn't there). Overall, I am hopeful that Revolv will accelerate support for devices and add increased functionality for their hub (just give us some basic functionality to start with). I just don't see the hub being worth the $300 price tag given the lack of devices and functionality.
