A good model to replace an older baby monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera is replacing an older model which served us well for many years but then the battery on the monitor became unreliable and needed replacing. The Rexing camera came as shown in my photo with all necessary cables. The only thing you might want to add – and I will – is microSD card for recording and storing video. I like having the option of being able to record video without having to pay a monthly subscription for cloud storage. The camera was easy to set up. Rexing claims the pairing is automatic upon startup and indeed it was. I did not have to fiddle around with any settings to be able to view the camera once it and the monitor were powered up. I found the printing on the manual to be too small to read (there is a lot of white space on the page, so there is no reason to print in such a small font). Instead, I found the manual online and read it as I set up and tested the camera. https://www.rexingusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Baby-Monitor_Updated-for-Web-Use-V2.pdf Once set up, the camera produced a good –1280 x 720p - not great image quality. Camera placement is very important. The camera does have a 10x zoom feature which allows you to zoom in without having to move the camera. I found image quality did not deteriorate significantly when zoomed in. At first, the night vision did not work. I found that by placing the camera in a dark room and then toggling the camera on and off that it started to work. The night vision – moving from color image to a black and white image – works well enough to see movement. The camera has several nice features which are fairly intuitive. You access them via touching Home, then scrolling through the icons using the left-to-right arrows that you normally use to move the camera. I used them to set the time, to set to temperature in Fahrenheit, and to adjust the volume and the brightness. This camera has two features I have not found in many such cameras. First, there is an option to play one of eight lullabies. However, I did not see a feature to set a timer, so the music will play until you manually stop it. It also has an alarm option to serve as a feeding reminder. I like that you have the option to add another camera to the same monitor. I do have one “quality” issue with the faceplate when moving the camera view. I have to press directly below the image of the Left and Right arrows because if I touch on the arrows themselves, the camera moves up because the Up arrow is above them on the board below. Overall, I am happy with this baby monitor and retired the old one.

Lost in translation
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rexing 4.5in Video Baby Monitor is an adequate baby monitor. It has most of what you expect in a baby monitor, though it feels kind of unfinished; like the company said, "hey, let's start making baby monitors. You have a week to research, then we're going into production." The picture quality is pretty good, advertised as 1080p. I'm not so sure that really matters on a 4 5" screen, though it might make for better quality video if you choose to record footage. I don't really understand how useful the ability to record video is. You must manually hold a button on the handset to record and then the video can only be viewed on a computer. So, if you intended to repurpose the camera as a security device or something you would have to be constantly monitoring the handset to capture the footage you're hoping for. Some sort of movement sensor in the camera would be more helpful, or the ability to set a timer. The camera can be rotated via the handset, supposedly up to 350 degrees, though I don't believe that is 100% remotely. Just tap and hold a directional arrow for the camera to move in that direction. This process can be a little frustrating. The buttons are not tactile but touch-screen, and the amount of time you have to hold an arrow before movement is just long enough for you to think you didn't have your finger in the right spot, only to let go just as the camera starts to move. Furthermore, these buttons do not have backlighting. So, in the middle of the night if you have to move the camera while looking in on your little one you'll have to turn the lights on. Some low intensity backlighting or a dimple on each arrow would help this immensely. The camera has the ability to read the temperature of the room, displayed on the handset. Unfortunately, mine does not accurately tell the temperature. It reads 5 to 8 degrees warmer than the room actually is. This poses an issue with the temperature alarm which cannot be adjusted, but luckily can be disabled. You can switch between Fahrenheit or Celsius. I found it odd that you can switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius but you are stuck using military time. You can adjust the time easily enough, but the time displayed (at least on my unit) is off by 20 minutes. One other small thing that annoys me about this monitor is the sound control. I would like a little more customization. The volume control is easy enough to operate, though it suffers from the same issues as moving the camera. It must be adjusted using touch-sensitive buttons that are difficult to navigate in the dark. Further frustrating is that the volume control sets the level for every sound. If turned up to hear crying or temperature alerts, then button sounds are also turned up. If you find the button sounds annoying, turning the volume down will also mute the very important alert sounds. All-in-all, I find this baby monitor to be subpar for the price. At the very basic, the monitor does what it needs to, but in my opinion basic is not enough for this price point. The unit has a lot of features one would ask for, but the quality of many of those features is flawed.

Almost a perfect baby monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rexing baby monitor has almost all of the features that one would need. What you get out of the box are the camera, the handheld monitor, the power plugs for both the camera and the monitor, and some inserts. To set everything up is very straight forward. Place the camera in a location where you can see the general area of the room. Plug in the power plug for the camera and that part is done. Next, charge the handheld monitor. Once it's charged, press the power button on the top left and the screen turns on. You have some options such as zoom, video quality, time setup, timer, and you can choose from 7 songs. The music is probably one of the best side features. You can turn it on from the monitor, and then turn it off. The quality of the camera is pretty good in both daylight and night time. The one major downer is the fact that there's lag on the touch controls. You have to hold down the directional buttons for the camera to move. Instinctively you would think that lightly pressing it once would move it, not holding it down. What would have made this camera a true standout if it played a light show. Since it already plays music, it would have eliminated the need for a night light. All in all it's still an excellent baby monitor with great video, a nice monitor, and nice features.

Great video but no touch screen
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's amazing how quickly we adapt to new technology, but not all companies adapt as quickly. I was surprised this monitor didn't have touchscreen. It takes a bit to adapt to the reality that you have to use an arrow button to move to the specific menu to select a feature and then move through that menu to actually make the change or adjustment you need to make. Once you get to that point, you have to wait for the device to respond and actually do the change you selected. You have to press and hold the directional button down before it will begin to adjust. At first you may think it's not working or it's hit the max distance it'll go in your desired direction, but you just have to be patient and wait. My initial experience was frustration, but I think over time it probably won't feel so painful. This wouldn't be so bad if there were just a couple menus, but there are a lot of menus so it's far more time consuming than I would expect. Just be prepared to be patient with navigating the device and waiting for it to respond. At this price point, the lack of a touchscreen isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker as I think that’s common in this price range but I was a little disappointed but how time consuming it is to navigate the menus and features and how long the device takes to make the change, especially considering that takes more time without a touchscreen. The picture in the monitor itself is fantastic. It's incredibly clear so you can see many details that aren't often visible on other monitors. I was a big fan of that and it's in color (when the lights are on) which was a lot more vivid than I've seen with other monitors so that was a big win. The monitor is set to the metric system, but does offer the option to change so not a big deal if you don’t use the metric system. The monitor go off when there isn't sound coming from the room which is a nice feature at night. When there's sound, the screen automatically turns on which is a nice touch to help get your attention at night. There are a ton of options and features – adjust the time, see the temp, adjust sound on the monitor talking to your kiddo or the handheld for hearing them, adjust the brightness of the screen. There are other extra features that may be helpful but aren’t things we have ever used on a monitor – timer for feedings, playing music, etc. I prefer using my cellphone for timers and Alexa for music. Overall, the monitor is a solid performer for the price. I prefer it a little simpler if I don’t have a touchscreen so some of the fluff I’d pass on for quicker navigation through the menus. Over time that may be a non-issue but the time for the device to respond may be a little more frustrating when you are trying to quickly see what your kid is doing in the room if they’ve moved offscreen, etc.

Works, but nothing special compared to cheap Wi-Fi
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used a Wi-Fi security camera and a tablet as my baby monitor for my kids which is what this would replace. So my review is comparing that setup to having a camera and little screen that you get with this. On the good side, this is easy to setup. Just plug in the camera and the screen and you’re ready to go. The screen can charge as you use it, so you can start using it right away. The screen and camera connect to each other out of the box, or you can sync them if for some reason they don’t. Since this is not connected to any Wi-Fi you don’t have to worry about the signal or having passwords, and generally from my trying it was very stable from one room to another. This is the biggest concern with the Wi-Fi camera I have, is very seldom, but sometimes, either the tablet turns off or app cashes. The positive with the camera and screen in one package is that I’ve not had issues with things dropping out. Outside of the stability of not using an app though, there are not many other positives. The screen is way too small to be able to see much, so you rely more on the sounds, and you could then just get a mic and speaker rather then having a camera. Since you are not connected to Wi-Fi you are also suck having to have the little screen and if you forget where it is then you cannot see what’s going on. The controls to move the camera are also a little funky, as pressing the arrows doesn’t do it and you have to get into the mode by holding one of the directions. Overall if you have decent wifi and a tablet, you’re better off getting a wifi camera and using that with a backup of a device for sound only. I like the idea of having a screen on top of just sound, but a baby monitor for sound will work better since the screen is too small to see anything anyway and the wifi camera gives you much better picture quality.

Effective Baby Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera works really well. Great picture quality, and good range throughout my house. Keeps track to time and room temp, and even plays music (although I wish there was a white noise selection). I've even used it in van living, putting the kids to sleep and keeping any eye on them while we hang out outside the van. It pairs right out of the box, so very easy to set up. So why only 4 stars? A couple of things that annoy me a bit about this camera: 1) Micro USB charging port - I feel everything has moved towards USB-C, and I have no other devices that utilize Micro USB, so now I have to have another cord; 2) Charging port on the top of the device - the design to have the charging port on top is not the most aesthetically pleasing design choice. The wire sticks up from the top and you cant hide it behind the monitor or anything; 3) Time in 24 hour increments - there does not seem to be away to change the time out of 24 hour increments. I assume that's how it keep track of AM/PM, but my mind is not trained that way and I have to do a little math to tell the time in the PM; 4) Temperature always blinking - cool that this monitor tracks room temperature, but the number is always blinking. The instructions say nothing about it, so I couldn't tell if something is wrong or needs to be set. I guess it just always blinks; 5) Hard to trust a brand that has typos all over the instructions and device - not hard to proofread things, makes me wonder about quality control. All in all, a great functioning camera with just a couple of design flaws.

Decent Monitor, room for improvements
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You definitely want eyes and ears on your little ones while they sleep. This camera and monitor combo offer that and more. It’s easy to setup, offers a strong connection from camera to monitor, and the video quality and sound are fine. Bonus – it can play lullabies, there’s a two-way microphone and keeps track of the room temperature. I have two caveats. No motion detector and it’s $99 to buy another camera. I’ve probably gone through 4 baby monitoring cameras in the last 3.5 years. I’m really happy that I seem to have one that’ll last. It feels durable and well built. It fits perfectly in my hand if I have to zoom in my daughter, but also has a little kickstand feature I can use. This is perfect for when my wife or I aren’t holding the monitor. I can set it on the table, open the kickstand and angle it so I can see it from where I go. I wish the interface buttons on the monitor were a little more user friendly. It was a bit confusing and took too long in my opinion to get the camera to move left or right. There’re directional buttons, but you almost have to double-tap to get the camera to move in the direction you want. Obviously the camera will stay in one place in the baby room, but it’d be better if the turn buttons were easier to use. The video quality is 720p. Honestly, no complaints here. It’s tough to judge something when the screen is only 4.5 inches, so the camera and display are good. So far I haven’t had any issues trying to watch my daughter. So far the connection between my monitor and camera are perfect. Our home is two stories and so far has had zero issues with a signal drop. My daughter’s room is just above my living room, so it’s not far. But the connection is surprisingly strong for the signal having to go through a ceiling and floor. Battery life has been great so far. I know I’ll eventually have to start charging it every morning, but for now it seems like two 10 hour sleep sessions are good for one charge. We have baby number 2 on the way (December!), so I plan to purchase a secondary camera so we can monitor both children on the one monitor. I find this feature extremely convenient so I don’t have to buy another baby monitoring camera and remote unit. Pros: clear picture at 720p great sound monitors room temperature ability to add additional cameras night vision 4.5 in screen Cons: Camera cord to wall can be a bit longer No motion detector Overall: I’m leery if I recommend this product or not. I like the idea of being able to purchase and sync more cameras to this setup. It’s highly appealing so I don’t have to have several setups once my newborn arrives. There’s also a very high price tag compared to other brands. In the end, find what features best fit for your family needs. All cameras tend to do the same, so I’d imagine there’re cheaper and as reliable options.

Definition of Mediocre
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s definitely not worth more than 50$. Battery life is poor. It can’t make it through the night without being plugged in. The pixel quality is pretty good though and it does a good job picking up noises. I don’t like that it beeps every time you touch the screen and I don’t like that there’s no button for volume control (need to use the touch screen). Overall, it’s a pretty entry level monitor. Nothing great. I’d personally recommend spending more to get a better one but if you’re on a budget, this will suffice.
