      Ring Alarm System

I had to write this review... It's pretty laughable reading the negative reviews about this alarm by ring! Yes this is there 1st alarm and yes there are things that can be improved by feedback from us the customers but to say this product SUCKS because of user errors is not really far to the company. Let me start with the CONS 1st. 1. I wish it was a way to adjust the speaker volume on the keypads. 2. I would've liked the contact sensors to be a lil smaller. 3.I also would welcome settings that would allow you to rename sensor to where they say what's happening at the location, like instead of a chime it would say Front Door, Garage Door, Sliding Door etc... 4. Also the only way to get notifications like what's happening at home is when the alarm is set in HOME or AWAY mode! It would be helpful to see notifications pushed to your device regardless of the alarm being set to HOME, AWAY, or Disarmed. Now for the PROS. 1-I will guarantee that you will NOT find another alarm company that will offer you monitoring & unlimited cameras added to your system for 10 DOLLARS a month! I’m absolutely certain you won’t! 2- Excellent Customer Service! I had an issue with my sensor not connecting and it was completely my fault! I call their customer service @ 12:30 on a Saturday night and was able to get assistance with repairing my sensor! 3- 24/7 Customer Service! Enough said! 4- By subscribing to their 10 dollar premium plan you get an extended warranty on your product. 5- The app and instructions are very intuitive and easy to follow. Also there’s a neighborhood community tap that allows you and your fellow ring doorbell & alarm buddies post different events that’s happening in you neighborhood. One more just by referring a friend to download the app and setting up a free ring account you and that person get 10 Buck!!! 6- Who doesn’t love free money! So that’s my review so far of the ring alarm system, is it perfect No, is it the best system on the market No, but for the overall value, the Exceptional Customer Service, & the Industry leading value you get for 10 dollars a month, this system will thrive in the DYI market!

I bought my Ring system about a week ago. My kit included the base station, 2 keypads, 2 motion detectors, 3 contact sensors and a range extender. I also bout the Ring Video door bell 2 to add on. I must say I am very impressed so far. It only took me about 30 minutes to get the whole system set up and running. I am not super technical but this is very simple to setup. I read some reviews that it can take a couple of hours, I was pleasantly surprised! Next came using the system. Ring did something that I think is genius. They built in a 7 day practice/training mode that the system goes in to after the initial setup. My wife and I were worried that if we or our kids (8 and 12 yrs old and very curious) hit a wrong button or something, the cops would show up. The practice mode let us learn the new system without worrying about that. One of my buddies has an old system (I won’t mention names, but from one of those big national providers everyone has heard of) and he was actually fined when the cops showed up to a false alarm, so this was a big deal for us. We are now 100% live with the system and it is out of practice mode. On the 1st day after we went live, my brother popped over to the house while my wife and I were at work. He did not know that we had the new system and used his key to come in the house. Well, the alarm went off and I was in a meeting and unable to use my phone app to cancel. I immediately received a call from a person that monitors the alarm and I was impressed all over again. First on how quickly I received a call, then by the fact that the girl I spoke with was extremely professional and polite. I think she did a good job. My family and I couldn’t be happier. We had an alarm system before this and got rid of the service because of how we first were nickel and dimed on the install and then got crappy service after. The experience with Ring so far has been the complete opposite so far. Needless to say we feel very secure and I plan to buy more components to the system. Probably going with the floodlight Cam next.

This thing is so new it is hard to get accurate information. I will update this review but wanted to get the initial items out there ASAP. I pre-ordered this from Ring directly. 1. Adding “non-ring” sensors. So even though the systems supports Zigbee (according to the box) as of right now I could not find a way to add them, the only choice when you select “Manual Add” is Z-Wave. Not a big deal for me as I have Aeotec by Aeon Labs ZW120 Door/Window sensors which are Z-wave. I was able to add it no problem and the base station chimes when contact is broken but you cannot set off the alarm using this device! With the alarm armed you can open this door all day long and it will not trip the alarm. This makes me a sad panda as that means I need to spend ~$80 to cover my other entrance doors. It also shows a strange icon next to it, see attached picture. 2. Setup/reset. So I messed up when setting up my base station, I did not add in my address (there is a skip option) and when I tried to add it later I stopped the provisioning because I thought I was making a mistake. Well then my base said it was offline and pushing the pair button would not work so I looked up how to factory reset. Clear instruction exist for every device EXCCEPT the base station. It says “To reset the base, contact customer support.” I called support and after waiting for 30 minutes to speak to someone (with not audible placement in line information) I hung up. I am sure they are busy given the launch of this system. Well it has a paperclip size reset button hole so I tried holding that down until the lights changed (~10 seconds) but still received the “You cannot add this base station because it belongs to someone else.” So I tried again and held for about 30 seconds until the lights mad a noticeable second change. After tit came back up it was ready. 3. Equipment quality. Everything feels really well made. The sensors are unnecessarily large. When you open them you see all sorts of free space that could have been reduced to make them smaller (both door/window and motion sensors). I will continue to update this review as I go along and as Ring enables more features.

Got the Ring Alarm system on launch date. Let me start by saying that the installation was very easy. All sensors, motions detectors, range extender, keypads and base station synced without a hiccup. The door/window sensors are a bit larger than your usual sensors but they do the job and aesthetically looks good so it makes up for the size. The 2 motion detectors work flawlessly. All my sensors are installed on the walls using the included 2-sided adhesive tape. So far I haven’t encountered any adhesive issues with all my equipments. The keypads are nicely lit up although I would like them to update the lights to light up both the “Away” and “Home” buttons during operation. I work at nights and when I was trying to disable the alarm I couldn’t figure out which button is which. Not a big negative but definitely needs improvement on the next software update. Also would’ve been nice if the key pad had a LED screen on it so we can tell if we’ve inputed enough digits for the pin# or still missing some. My kit came with a free Ring yard sign and that was a big bonus. It gives you this extra feeling of security knowing that the sign is lit up and stands out at night. It’s definitely a good addition to my Ring Doorbell Pro, Ring Spotlight Cam and Ring Floodlight. So far so good with the system, especially for a 24/7 monitoring security system for $100/year. You really can’t beat that!

I've been waiting for the Ring Alarm since it was first announced last fall. I'm already in the Ring family with the Doorbell Pro and Spotlight Cam. I have had no major issues with my Ring devices, so I felt confident with going in for their Alarm. Set-Up is quite simple. All sensors that are bundled automatically populate in the app to easily connect them. If you do buy extra sensors, adding them to your home is easy. You just need to scan a QR code on the back of the sensor and install them. Speaking of the sensors, they are quite large. Compared to something like the Nest Secure, the contact sensors are almost double the size. They still fit nicely around the house though. Arming the Alarm is also very easy. You can use the Ring app or set it directly on the keypad by entering your access code. You can change entry and exit delay times in settings. Some improvements can be made to the system though: -Ability to add Guest Codes without adding someone as a User -Set alarm to Away or Home without entering code -When switching from Home to Disarmed mode on Keypad, allow to click the mode first, then prompt to enter access code. Currently, you always need to enter the code and then pick which mode you want -New Chirp tones (currently only 4) -More voice alerts/prompts (Hub can maybe say which room has sensors tripped; speak how much time left for alarm to go off/enter access code) -On iOS, ability to 3D Touch Ring app icon to set alarm. -To Disarm the Alarm, typing in the access code and clicking the Check will disarm it. Currently you enter the code and then click the Disarm Mode button. Overall, the Ring Alarm is a great system now. Overtime, new and different accessories will be added and improvements to the software will only make it better to have and use.

Install was quick and easy and we were soon set up with an alarm system in a "practice mode." However, given that this is my 4th home security system, one of which was a DIY (Frontpoint), & none have had a "practice mode" period, I would say that the practice mode is a CYA for Ring so that they do not have too many false alarms due to their shoddy system. The first time I tried to trigger the alarm, our code did not work when entered into the keypad - we had to use the app to disarm. Then 2 of the sensors fell off after the 1st & 2nd days due to the adhesive strips barely being "adhesive" strips. Then, the 3rd sensor that came with the system stopped working altogether & we had to bypass it to arm the system - not great as this sensor was on our main entry door. The instructions (if you can call them that - there are not many provided) were hard to find for troubleshooting & did not fix my sensor. So, I bought two add'l sensors to replace my brand new sensor (you can only buy in packs of two) and those two would not work. So I resorted to calling customer service. From their end, customer service finally got the (3rd)sensor to work but offered no explanation other than the system was new & still had a few "kinks"- not a confidence inspiring admission - FOR A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM!!!!!!! When you provide a, literally, life-saving device & service, it is unfathomable that you would not vet the device umpteen times prior to releasing it to the public. Oh & there was 0 sympathy or (GASP) offer of a refund for the two sensors that I had to buy to replace the brand new sensor that came with the system that I bought two days earlier!!!!! I'll give it another couple of days, but I have a feeling that we'll be returning this for Simplisafe as this system would barely pass Beta status in my opinion. The only positive thing is that although unsympathetic and lacking a proactive approach, the two customer service guys were nice & professional - when I could actually talk to them. Ring has some type of proprietary customer service call system within their app that does not work - the three times I tried to use it, they could hear me but I could not hear them. Oh & the app does work as designed in integrating the devices to the current Ring system, the big problem though - the devices don't work and are definitely not ready for primetime!!!!! Look elsewhere!!!!

        Hi WD39,

I am so sorry to hear about this poor and inconvenient Ring experience. This is by no means the experience that we intended for you to have. While I do see that you have been in communication with our Customer Support team, I would appreciate the chance to connect with you directly. I greatly appreciate all the time, money, and energy that you have invested into trying to get your Ring device to work for you and I would like to step in and ensure that your efforts are not wasted. With that being said, would you be so kind as to email me directly at Kaitlyn.rosenthal@ring.com?
It is imperative to me that we get your Ring device and app both working consistently to your expectations as soon as possible.

      Reserving my opinion

I bought this system after reviewing all of its competitors and it sounded like a really good system and easy to set up. There are several of the items that are easy to set up. However go slowly when setting them up because sometimes it appears you need to hit "next" to continue, but you may not be quite through with that step. You have one shot at setting this up, you cannot go back. Example: while positioning the motion detector a light will flash when it detects motion. Once setup is completed you cannot go back into setup mode if you want to move it. I guess you could remove the item and start over, not sure. One thing I am definitely not pleased with and they do not tell you this anywhere is the motion detector reset period . BEWARE,,,if you trip the motion detector it has a 3 minute reset period. If you trip it on your way to set your alarm, and set your alarm before the 3 minute reset period, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY BYPASS THE MOTION DETECTOR with no notification!! If a door or window sensor is open it will prompt you to bypass that item or correct it before arming. Not so with the motion detector. When I was speaking with customer service about this their solution was to arm the system remotely after the reset period. I think this is something that definitely should be improved. I should not have to wait three minutes every time I need to arm the system. One thing that is awesome is their customer support. I spoke with a representative on the phone and also had two chat sessions. ALL answered my questions and were very helpful. Wait time was not too long and they follow up with an email if you need more assistance. I am still learning the system and some are my errors, but I think there is room for improving some of the setup. I will be reserving my judgment after using past the 7 day learning period.

Had this for 5 days and it’s been solid. The setup was very easy and flawless. The quality of the keypads and base station is nice. The keypads speak the status when activated and also serve as additional sirens. The base stations chimes are nice and loud as is the siren. The app has been responsive. This is a great deal especially when you factor in unlimited cameras with 60 days of saved video footage and 24/7 professional monitoring. My home insurance discount for a monitored alarm makes this basically free every month since this service is only $10 a month total no contract. The only negative so far is the lack of third party support, automations and geofencing. Also the door/window sensors are a little too large. I’ve tried Nest Secure which is more expensive equipment, $19 a month on a 3 years contract! Plus at least $8 a month for two cameras and 5 days of 24/7 footage. Also the monitoring does not include fire even if you have nest protects! The base station is not loud enough and you can’t use another base station or buy extra keypads or sirens. Also tried SmartThings/ADT system. Decent system but monitoring is $35 a month including fire. Automations are broken and Smartthings has been down a few times this year. You can’t buy multiple keypads or sirens so you just have the one.
