Q: explain to me how this stick works, please.
A: The Roku stick plugs into the HDMI port of your television and connects via WiFi to your internet through your wireless network router, providing you with access to streaming content.
Q: If I was to purchase this, where do I go to find out what channels I can get for free?
A: Once you've powered up the device and connected to Wi-Fi, these will be located on the Roku Channel Store (the Streaming Channels category in the side bar). Under the Top Free category, some of them are: QVC, PBS, Crackle, YouTube, CBS News, to name a few. A great feature of this new Roku model is the ability to search for any movie or television show across multiple platforms such as FandangoNOW, Vudu, Hulu, Netflix, Googleplay. Hope this helps.
A: The USB connection provides power to the Roku Stick. If your TV does not have a USB connection, an AC plug in adapter is included.
A: There are many reasons to get a streaming device like the Roku. However, as is the case with most entertainment devices, the Roku isn't really necessary, but it is very convenient. One reason is simply to get your content on your big screen TV, wherever it may be in your home, instead of your tablet or computer. Another reason is user experience. Example: If I subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Video, and Hulu, I can search on the Roku home screen for a movie or show and the Roku will instantly bring up the show from whatever subscription service it is on. One more reason is TV compatibility. Lots of people still have TVs that don't connect to the internet, a Roku will get Netflix or Amazon Video onto your TV.
Q: How is the 2016 better than previous roku streaming stick?
A: The short answer is the CPU on this one is way more powerful than the original, so it's on-par with the Roku 4 in terms of performance. I haven't experienced any lag yet.
Q: I have two HD tvs in separate rooms does that mean I need two separate Roku sticks ?
A: Yes, unless you wish to manually unplug it from one tv and plug it into the other one. This device is a receiver.
Q: whats the difference between roku and fire stick?
A: Other than the obvious, manufacturer. They are very similar but the Fire Stick offers a few more options than the Roku stick. I purchased both and felt that the Fire stick had a siperior user interface and was more aesthetically pleasing.
Q: What is the purpose of roku stick? How/what is it connected too?
A: In simplistic terms, the ROKU allows one, with a HDMI ported TV, and wifi high speed internet service, to receive streamed (canned if you will) TV programming. Most major networks offer free programming of this nature. Some programming, e.g. HGTV, might charge for its programming.
