    Synopsis

    Romancing the Stone
Kathleen Turner plays a writer of adventure stories, Joan Wilder, who has been having trouble selling her works of late because they aren't remotely believable. The basic problem is that the mousy Joan has never had any real adventure in her life. All this changes when she receives a frantic phone call from her sister, whose is being held prisoner by evil art dealers in Colombia. It seems that sis has mailed Joan a map leading to a valuable treasure. Nasty but cowardly Ralph (Danny DeVito), cousin of the principal villain (Zack Norman), has been assigned to claim the map from Joan. But upon arriving in Colombia, Joan and Ralph learn that others of a more homicidal bent are also after the map. Joan is rescued by soldier of fortune Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), who isn't quite clear about his stake in the proceedings. Jack and Joan undergo several perilous adventures in the wilds of Colombia. The treasure turns out to be a valuable jewel, which changes hands (one of them severed!) many times before it is swallowed by an alligator. Joan manages to break free from her pursuers, but Jack is presumed dead. Jack returns at the end of the film in Manhattan to surprise Joan. The sequel to Romancing the Stone was 1985's The Jewel of the Nile. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    The Jewel of the Nile
The Jewel of the Nile takes up where Romancing the Stone left off, with romance novelist Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) traveling around the world with her boyfriend, Jack Colton (Michael Douglas). But Joan is becoming bored with Jack and all the romantic attention; as she asks, "How much romance can one woman take?" Invited by Omar (Spiros Focas), a wealthy Arabian potentate, to travel with him to his homeland, Joan readily accepts. Jack decides to pass on the trip, preferring instead to sail through the Mediterranean. It turns out that Omar wants to usurp the role of an Arab holy man known as "The Jewel of the Nile" (Avner Eisenberg), and Joan finds herself thrown in prison with the hapless spiritual leader. Jack comes to the rescue, teaming up with the slapstick bad guy from Romancing the Stone, Ralph (Danny DeVito). Together, the foursome have to cross North Africa in order to escape Omar's minions. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Romancing the stone was a a lot of fun but you could tell it takes some of it's cues from Raiders of the lost Ark. Michael Douglas was very funny in this role a which was a switch from some of the dramatic roles he took and would be known for in his career. Jewel of the Nile received a lot of hype leading up to it but failed to deliver the fun of the sequel, but overall if you are a fan of these films this is a great collection for a cool price. This is one of my favorite franchises. Like the adventure and humor. There's a lot of chemistry between Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. I watched this films back in the 80's as a kid and it's great to have them both in one set on Blu Ray. The movie has been restored and you can compare it to the original trailer included.

I was in awe the first time I watched this as a teenage boy. Imagine your Indiana Jones hero grows up and finds real romance amidst the danger of a tropical rain forest. Plenty of roller-coaster action to keep anyone on edge blended with incredible chemistry between Douglas and Turner. Also great for couples to re-ignite that flame.

Romancing the Stone was one of the best Action/Romance movies of the 80's. This blu-ray version features both movies on 2 separate discs. The video quality is excellent - definitely an upgrade from DVD. The sequel is not as good as the original, but is still a fun ride. Highly recommended.

Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner are great in Romancing the Stone, the story is full of adventure, action, comedy. It is a great date movie, especially if your date hasn't seen it yet. The Jewel of the Nile, is a B, not as much fun. Enjoy them both.

Romancing the Stone is a classic. Jewel, not so much. Picked this up on sale to upgrade my DVD set. The picture quality is a step up on this set but the audio is not so great. (Most likely due to the source material). Glad I bought it all the same.

We really enjoy watching these two movies. They fit well together, to be watched one after the other. And while these disks have no making of featurettes, they are hugely entertaining, and very high def!

I always liked these two movies and when I saw them together on Bluray at a great price I had to get it. If you like adventure movies with action and a little humor you will enjoy this one
