Frank Zappa's long awaited concert film from one of his top bands (many would say his TOP BAND. PERIOD.) finally sees the light of the day. After over 40 years of sitting in the vault and immense technical difficulties the Zappa Family Trust faced with editing and syncing with audio (all explained in the liner notes), the HOLY GRAIL of Zappa concerts features jaw-dropping musicianship courtesy of FZ (vocals, guitar), Napoleon Murphy Brock (tenor sax, vocals), George Duke (keyboards, vocals), Bruce Fowler (trombone), Tom Fowler (bass), Ruth Underwood (percussion), Ralph Humphrey and Chester Thompson (drums), the bands charges through classics such as "Cosmik Debris", "Dog Breath/Uncle Meat", "Echidna's Arf", "Cheepnis" (Zappa's loving tribute to B-monster movies with excellent percussion wizardry by Underwood, Humphrey and Thompson), "Big Swifty", and the free jazz-rock n' roll-dance party-romp in the finale "Be-Bop Tango". The long wait was truly worth it!

Probably the best Frank Zappa video we'll ever see, with the best personnel lineup he ever had. Wicked good musicianship leaves you watching in awe, then you're laughing at the hilarious interactions with the audience. Occasionally the cameramen get in each other's way, but that's to be expected in the course of their on-the-spot meanderings -- this is no Stop Making Sense by any stretch, and it doesn't try to be. This is an impressive piece of video, a remnant of a golden age the like of which the world will never see. There was no one like Zappa, not before nor since.

What a fun evening, and with the meandering on-stage cameras you feel like you're right there. The music is great and the musicians are great, with none of the bitterness and over-the-top raunchiness that marred so many performances in Frank's later years. And the part with the audience participation is hilarious. Enjoy!

This is perhaps Frank Zappa's best lineup of musicians, and also a time of extremely creative and complex compositions. I highly recommend this to fans or strangers to his music. A+++

Well, it took them just over 40 years to release it, and it was worth the wait. A must see for all Zappa fans.
