Warren Beatty throwback is old school charming.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe movie is one that really got lost in the shuffle of many films late in the year that included Oscar darling La La Land amongst others. Warren Beatty's long awaited return to the big screen after 15 years as well as being co-writer, producer and director on the film. The film is about the legendary billionare Howard Hughes and his major influences and his rather eccentric personality that affected everyone around him including his well meaning chauffer (Alden Erenreich of the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spinoff), a country bumpkin (Lily Collins) who's just arrived in Hollywood and his assistants (Matthew Broderick and Candice Bergen). The film is well cast and joyous to look at but also feels a little heavy and lacking on humor at times. Beatty definitely still has the chops as a director, but it is easy to see why the movie really didn't do anything on the big screen. Definitely recommended as an engaging curiosity with a solid cast and for those who like films of the golden age era of Hollywood.

Great story and performances
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis sleeper story slid under the radar at the theaters. Glad I was able to find it on Blu-ray. If you are into the lore surrounding Howard Hughes it is enjoyable. The effect on the lives surrounding the mythical Hughes actually makes for a more interesting tale than the life of the man himself.

A bitter sweet romantic comedy
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis movie is a charming and gentle story. At its beginng, It seems to have the traditional romantic comedy plot line: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, and you know the rest. But this rom-com has something exceptional at its core, an eccentric, phobic, antisocial, reclusive and somewhat unhinged Howard Hughes, played by Warren Beatty. In the employ of this unpredictable Hughes, the young woman and young man try to find their separate and proper ways. The young woman is a Hughes starlet, the young man is her driver, and they are forbidden to socialize. And you think you know the rest, expect the central figure Hughes is so unconventional that you're left guessing to the end about the couple's fate. This is a funny movie with just a touch of sadness.

Howard Hughes Like You Can Never Imagine
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAt the hands of many directors, RULES DON'T APPLY might just be another uninteresting portrait of a famous recluse the public never knew anything about, because that's exactly what he wanted. Under the pen and direction of Warren Beatty, this film is a portrait that might as well be all truth. Played with precision by Beatty, this fascinating film treats the viewer to a Howard Hughes that's probably as close as anyone would get to see, unless one actually worked for the man on a daily basis. See this film. It's masterfully presented by genius who still makes the cinema genuinely appear to be sheer excellence.

Not bad
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendGood to see Warren Beatty back again, but he's not really the star, the young people, particularly Lily Collins, steal the show. And steal it they do.

Very enjoyable
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIf you’re a fan of period movies set back in the early Hollywood days, you’ll love his one. There’s something fun about these sorts of movies that take you back to a simpler time. I’d definitely recommend this to ppl who like the classics as well as current movies like Café Society, The Artist etc.
