    Synopsis

    Runner Runner
A Princeton grad student finds himself caught between the FBI and a malevolent online gambling tycoon in this thriller from The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman. A whiz at the virtual-poker table, bright young Ivy Leaguer Richie (Justin Timberlake) had nearly raised enough cash to pay his tuition when he lost it all in the blink of an eye. Convinced that he's been cheated and determined to confront the swindler, Richie hops a plane to Costa Rica, and comes face-to-face with online gambling mogul Ivan Block (Ben Affleck), who introduces him to a world of wealth and privilege. Meanwhile, the FBI has been watching Ivan, and attempts to strong-arm Richie into turning informant. With Richie's help they could bring Ivan's illegitimate empire crashing to the ground. But who's more dangerous, the entrepreneur who feeds his enemies to crocodiles, or the agents who seem like they're willing to break the law in order to uphold it? Gemma Arterton and Anthony Mackie co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A likable cast does not a strong movie make

What Ben Affleck may lack in depth, he makes up for in being a reliable "every man." Justin Timberlake has also been consistently likable in the roles he has chosen and Runner Runner is no different. Unfortunately, the strength of their respective fan bases isn't enough to pull this latest installment (in their resumes) out of Average Land. Runner Runner has a few moments that are pretty cool, but I have seen better from both of these guys and I am sure I will again.

Justin Timberlake is the man! While his character was a little weak, he did the best he could do and Affleck as the villain was pretty believable and well done. The plot and idea was interesting but the lack of supporting cast and accelerated plot line was the weak part of this movie. However, it was still an entertaining, smart, and thrilling movie about online poker and the underlying workings of online gambling. That makes you think about how and if it really works that way.

On the face of it, the plot of Runner Runner sounds like a winner, and in fact the first act is well plotted out and executed, but halfway through, the film pretty much falls apart, as though the writers just didn't know how to resolve it. That's certainly true of the ending, which feels trite and tacked on. Justin Timberlake turns in a reasonable performance, as does Ben Affleck as the smarmy villain, but unfortunately neither actor is able to rescue this film.

Overall the movie is decent while not having an overly original plot and all. The acting is pretty decent, as much as I hate to say it, Justin Timberlake has turned out to be a reasonably decent actor... no Oscar winner of course but seems to pick out roles that suit him well. Not everyone will want to run out and buy this movie but I'd suggest at least renting it and giving it a try.

The performance of Ben Affleck alone is worth the buying of this video. Justin Timberlake isn't too bad as an actor but better as a singer. The plot is sorta skimpy and the adventure is strange with the FBI as the bad/good guys. Silly in some places and... duh, what the heck is going on... in other places. But over all I was entertained and felt I got my money's worth.

We all remember years ago when internet poker sites started springing up everywhere based in the Caribbean countries. Now we get to see the stories about those who owned the poker sites and what happened to them when the US Govt came looking for their share of the profits. Had me on the edge of my seat in many parts. Anyone who plays poker on the internet must see this film.

Althought the movie was lengthy it was well worth it. Every detail used was needed. The plot was great and I'm sure if any college student had the chance to do that and make millions they would , but without knowing the consequences. The resolution to the movie is the best! Justin Timberlake was perfect for the part.

I bought this movie for the Justin Timberlake affect. I have seen him in concert many times and wanted to see his acting chops at work. Ben Affleck played a money driven man with no remorse and Justin, someone who wanted more from life. I enjoyed the movie. It was entertaining and locations were breathtaking.
