    Great Microwave & Nice Features

I bought this microwave to replace a 6 year old Samsung unit, and to match up with my Samsung Chef's Collection, slide in range. My selection amounted to really liking the glass touch sensitive buttons on the range, and my desire to get away from the mylar touch panels that seem to have problems. As a microwave, it has more than enough features to keep me happy, so I'd like to highlight the best of the features here: The positioning of the counter top lights is in the front section of the unit, so they really light up the cooking surface of the range. In addition, they are LED units that have a nice cool white light. (see photo# The interior of the unit is lit by a nice, bright halogen bulb, and even though the interior is gray in color it is still adequate. I like that the counter top lights can be set up to go on and off at a preselected time, and they come on at low brightness to greet us in the morning. The unit is much quieter than any other one we've ever owned. The exhaust fan has 4 speeds that range from muted in sound all the way up to the usual roar on high. Mounting was speeded up a bit because I was able to continue using the wall mounting plate from my old unit with no need to move it. Unfortunately, Samsung has changed mounting bolt locations that go thru the bottom of the cabinet above it. This required very careful locating, and drilling, along with moving the existing reinforcing under the bottom of the cabinet. Not a big deal for me, but some folks might feel challenged doing this themselves. The sensor cooking buttons work very well, and do a great job on popcorn or reheating a plate of food. You should be aware that when you use the sensor cooking, the manual recommends you wait for 5 minutes before you use sensor cooking again #I assume to allow the sensors to clear their sniffers). The only thing I feel worth noting is that with the glass / touch sensitive buttons, use up about 1/3 of the total glass surface on the door. This coupled with a noticeably denser screen to look thru, makes watching your food cook a bit harder for both short and tall folks.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Last year I replaced all of my appliances with Samsung but rest assured my next house won't have a single Samsung component in it. A $500 microwave ought to last longer than 365 days of occasional use. The push buttons on the glass are hard to get to respond. Ok, learning curve. 3 weeks ago it lost all power/no display, lights/fan did not work. Completely dead. Confirmed outlet had power. Plugged the unit back in and thought, ok that didn't last long. 10 minutes later it mysteriously came back alive and we used until it went out again and never came back on. Samsung Support is a joke. You call in and sit on hold for almost an hour. Then you argue with them over who's going to pay for it, then they finally agree to cover it under a "one-time courtesty repair" (meaning that after its fixed if the same thing happens two weeks from now, I'm screwed). Set a tentative repair date for this coming Thurs (today). But that someone would call and confirm. Next day Samsung calls and confirm for Thursday. Sit here all day on Thursday and no one comes or calls. At 4pm I called Samsung and start back all over again on the phone prompts (they should have a way to check ticket status online or by phone so you're not wasting 20 minutes). Finally talk to an operator that says my ticket was cancelled because the repair center could not contact the customer (me). I said I have been here all day with my phone and no one has called. They confirm they had my correct number, and they give me the number to the local repair center. When I call them they say they don't have the ticket scheduled because the ticket is locked and they can't assign it. The nice lady says she'll call Samsung to get it straightened out, but that they are booked until next week. I actually bought the Samsung refrigerator the year before and the ice maker quit working six months after I bought it. I don't use it that often, so I never called to have it repaired. Last year when replacing the rest of the appliances, I had to take the dishwasher back. Wouldn't work. The replacement powered up but did a horrible job cleaning dishes. Took that back. The guy at the store said out of all of the appliances they sell, Samsung's are returned more than any other brand. My GE appliances were 10 years old and never had a service issue with them. Fortunately I won't have these much longer because I'm selling my house.

We only use a microwave for warming food, cooking veggies or making popcorn. That's all we've ever done with ANY microwave we've ever had. The times when I tried to get fancy (like defrosting things, softening things, cooking meat, etc), resulted in disaster, every time. You might ask why we have such a fancy oven then. The answer is because all of them at this price point do things we will NEVER need, and this was the one that went best with the other appliances in the kitchen. Microwave foods on two levels? Can't think of a reason we'd do that, so I just tossed out that nice (but unneeded) rack. I like the dark interior that looks like the inside of a regular oven. It seems to be MUCH easier to clean and keep clean. I like the huge size and it seems to have a tad bit more power than the one it replaced. Besides paying extra for things we'd never do with a microwave, there are only 3 other things I don't like: NONE of the buttons light up and the labels for the buttons don't contrast with the dark door of the oven, so it's hard to use it in the dark (like to turn the underside light on or off). You have to touch the buttons several times, at different pressures, to get it to do what you want. It must be a Samsung thing because the same can be said for our new Samsung fridge. One final bother is that the LED light underneath the unit is too dim to be used for anything but a nightlight. It's useless to light the cooktop below it. I guess it sounds like I don't like our new Samsung microwave, but it works and looks nice, so the rest of the things are just bothers. I'd still recommend it, but you should think about the negatives I noted before buying it.

Purchased this on Aug 1, 2015. Wasn't delivered until Sept 22, 2015. Kitchen wasn't finished until Nov 1, 2015. So we didn't start using it until Nov. Jan 2016 we started having issues. Code E-83 kept coming up. Would have to unplug to reset. Feb. Contacted Samsung. Now it's April 2016. Samsung sent 3 repair people who can't repair (company policy they send THREE repair tries). Samsung complained about my copies of the receipt (copy of original Best Buy receipt ). Almost 6 months without a microwave. From what I have read on line (from other owners) this error code has been an issue for over a year yet Samsung still continues to sell this model. Repair man told me that Samsung has no error code listed but I had pictures. Asked for a refund but not sure how long this would take. Bought a stove, dishwasher, and fridge all the same day as the microwave. Will never own another Samsung microwave and refuse to spend money with a company that has such poor customer service. Have spent close to 30 hours dealing with this including wait times for a repair person who called and informed me that "he wouldn't make it today. He was calling from the back of an ambulance" Where I feel for the repair man the company he works for wouldn't take my calls. Too much hassle for a obviously defective product.

    Samsung customer support is horrible

First, the microwave looks nice, matches other appliances pretty well. The touch screen can fail to detect touches all the time - my wife and kids can't stand it. That is almost a reason to get something else. But then I called Samsung over a broken part - grease filter wouldn't stay in place since day 1. They first told me they would investigate and get back to me, but never did. So after a few weeks I called them back and they told me that I broke it and they would be voiding my warranty. Really. So I escalated the case. They also told me I must have broken it installing it, even though it was a part *inside* the microwave that was broken. So I asked them to just send me the part and I'd fix it myself. Nope, they wouldn't do that, wouldn't even help me by giving me the part number. I should have just returned it to the store, but since it was already installed I knew that was going to be a pain. The hour I spent on the phone with Samsung was painful and a complete slap in the face to anyone that spent $400 on a microwave - for that reason alone I cannot recommend buying *any* Samsung product to anyone. Ever.

After my first choice arrived by mail damaged, I didn't want to risk ordering another one online. The store didn't have what I wanted in stock and I HAD to replace a 10 year old Samsung that was no longer heating evenly. This I like about this - it works. Things I don't like - the finish shows every possible fingerprint and cleaning doesn't help much. Having the "buttons" on the door prevents short people like me from seeing the progress of the heating while in use. If the "buttons" break (and they require more pressure than I'd prefer for my older hands), we'll have to replace the entire door. Seems like a poor design choice. I use the timer a lot, but for some reason setting the timer requires you select timer (rather than cook) first - before you enter the time. With the cook option, you select the time and then press cook. Why not the same set of instructions for both? Again, poor design choice, in my opinion. Price was reasonable, and it fit perfectly in the space vacated by the old Samsung, so hubby was happy doing less work. The thing is a bit heavy for just one person to install, even if strong my like my husband. I had to help, and I'm NOT strong! I like the darker inside, as I won't see stains quite as readily as when the inside was white. That, and it works to heat evenly are the reasons I gave it 3 stars. There isn't much else to recommend about this unit. I would not buy it again.

This microwave does an excellent job of heating our food, as any microwave should. 5 stars on that issue, and we like how it looks. Two things we have found that we don't love about this microwave... 1. The entire front of it is the door. I don't know how we didn't notice this when checking it out at the store. Once it was in our kitchen, which is a lot smaller than the showroom, it became a lot more noticeable. You open it, and you need to swing your head around the right side of it. The door is just huge. 2. The buttons require some getting used to. At first, we thought our zero button might be broken. Pressing it harder and harder to get it to register does not work. We've learned to think of them as touchscreen buttons, and now we're getting better at it, but it should be easier. I don't want to have to explain to houseguests how to use the microwave. Like any appliance, my advice is to check it out in the store before buying, and make sure you like these unique features.

I bought this to match my other Samsung appliances. The first one I purchased was replaced by the repair company within the first year because the sensor went out. The second one- the replacement- went out a few months after receiving it (no power at all) and was 'repaired'. After a couple of weeks it went out again. Another repairman came out and 'repaired' it again. It went out again within 24 hours! Also, since this was a replacement because it was more cost effective to replace the entire microwave than to replace the door with all the electronics, my service plan I paid for with my original purchase was no longer valid. I did not know this until I called to get this one repaired and was informed that I would have to go through Samsung to get it 'fixed'. After it went it out this last time, Samsung is giving me refund for the unit. Now I have a dilemma, I want my appliances to match, but im afraid to get another Samsung microwave. I'm regretting that I bought Samsung products.
