      Could be a Lemon


      After 12 years with a troublesome refrigerator we decided to look at a new appliance. Since there were only two of us in the household, capacity didn't really matter. We were looking for the latest technology that would be energy efficient and trouble free. The unit was delivered on June 1, 2014. All seemed good for about two weeks when the ice maker would not dispense ice. The chute was clogged. I emptied it. The next day the same thing happened. I referred to the owners manual that suggested we lower the freezer temperature. Went from zero degrees to minus 3 degrees. That didn't help. Lowered to minus 6 degrees. That seemed to work but the ice wanted to clump together. The ice maker is on the door. The ice clumping made me suspicious of the temperature in the freezer. I went out and purchased 6 dial refrigerator/freezer thermometers and put three in the freezer and three in the refrigerator. The next morning the freezer temperature was plus 14 degrees and the refrigerator was plus 46 degrees. Contacted Samsung. Suggested unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes and then plugging it in. Sort of the old "reboot" the electronics trick. That didn't help. Set the refrigerator side to 34 degrees. The temperature wouldn't budge and go lower. Set the unit to power cool. That brought it down to plus 37 degrees but I had to turn off the power cool for fear of freezing the items in the refrigerator side. In the meantime, the temperature in the freezer was now going down to minus 14 degrees and would slowly creep up to plus 10 degrees. Then one evening we heard a sound similar to a muffled motor boat sound coming from the rear of the unit. It sounded like a weed wacker at idle was my next thought. Contacted Samsung. The suggestion was to have a service call made. I completed on online form. The service request form required me to scan my original invoice into my laptop and transfer it into Samsung's service request. I received a service request ticket number at that point.The next morning the weed wacker noise went away. I waited for a response. The response was in the form of an email. The email stated: 1. Defrost the Fridge for 2 hours. Make sure to remove all of the foods inside of the fridge. 2. Physical damage or any damage is not cover by the warranty. Y/N. 3. Set the unit into Serviceable position. Y/N. 4. If there is no manufacture's defect, customer will be paying for the service center's evaluation and trip charge. Y/N 5. Alternate phone number. Send us another service request including the troubleshooting you performed and we will get back to you again. This ticket will be close since your going to create another service request. That was some email and I wanted to have someone come and take the thing away and drop ship it to the Samsung CEO's front door. I responded not to nicely to the email as you can imagine. After five days another email followed and stated that they would be sending someone to my home to look at the refrigerator. Two days later a tech came, looked at it and said that the issue could be with the main circuit board. So now I wait for the tech to return with a new circuit board. I will update this review a few days after the circuit board is replaced. In the meantime I cannot recommend this unit.

      I did do research on many refrigerators before we made the decision to purchase this Samsung model. We are now three weeks in to the purchase and so far so good. Some of the reviews I have read are very scary. We have almost returned this unit a couple of times. The ice maker is in the door, and one of the things I do not like is that it is very noisy. I noticed that there were other people who had the same complaint about this unit. There were people who were kicking themselves for purchasing Samsung and wished they had their money back and had purchased something different. There are also many horror stories about customer service when there is an issue. Then you turn the page, and you will see people who will not ever buy anything but a Samsung again. So, it basically is a chance you have to take with this particular brand. That is all I can say at this point. After looking at other makes, such as Whirlpool, General Electric, Frigidaire, I saw that people had particular issues with these models also. So, again, it is a draw as to which one is going to be the best in the long run. One of the things that we found to be rather humorous, was with one of the installers that set this refrigerator up for us. When they were through with the installation, my husband asked why the refrigerator door was higher than the freezer door. The response from the installer was, "oh, not a problem. When you start putting items on the shelves in the door, it will lower the door to the right level!!!!!!!" My husband and I about fell over. This guy must have thought we were pretty gullible and/or major stupid. We just said okay, and let it go. We were going to call the service department and fill them in on this conversation. The next day, however, someone from Best Buy called to see how the installation went. We gave them the necessary information they requested and then my husband proceeded to tell the person he was speaking with, the story about how the installer said that the door would level itself once we added items to the shelves in the door. From what my husband said, it sounded like the man on the other end of the conversation probably fell off of his chair. He informed my husband that this is absolutely not the truth, and assured us that someone would be out to level the door for us as it should be. On the other side of the coin, other than that, the installation went smoothly and both of the installers did a great job and were very thorough and handled the removal of our old refrigerator and the installation of the new refrigerator very carefully and professionally. We still have mixed feelings about this purchase. We don't know what each day might bring us with the Samsung brand. We are hoping that we are one of the lucky ones, that does not have major issues, but deep down we feel that we might also be looking for another refrigerator within the next two to three years. Hopefully not. I am going to say that I would recommend Samsung to a friend, but I hope I am not making a mistake. If things go south on this unit with us, I will definitely be back to vent my concerns and problems with everyone.

      We bought this refrigerator as part of a complete kitchen appliance upgrade. The game manufacturers play is that they have very stylized handles, so to get appliances that look the same, you have to get all the same brand. We chose Samsung because of features we like on the refrigerator and dishwasher. We have a wall on the left side of the refrigerator that limits opening the freezer door to 90 degrees. We wanted a refrigerator that has a slim profile for the things (ice maker, bins) mounted on the freezer door. The first unit delivered was DOA; the lights inside didn't even light. (Yes, it was plugged in.) Best Buy delivered a new one the next day. We heard a high pitched noise and called Samsung to see if this is normal. They said it was not and set up a service call. (Mr. Appliance of Fort Collins, Colorado; I don't recommend those guys.) Every time the service man was here things got worse. The first time he ordered a part, but when he left the refrigerator was no longer level (it was level before he got here) and the freezer door was rubbing on the wall. When he came back, he had the wrong part. He leveled the refrigerator, but then the doors were not even. The freezer door was at the bottom of its adjustment range and the refrigerator door was at the top of its range, but the freezer door was higher than the refrigerator door. When Samsung called to see how the repair went, my wife told them of our tale of woes. They immediately said they would replace the refrigerator. The third one was the charm. This unit works great. I love the digital temperature readout; no more sticking a thermometer in the refrigerator to try to adjust the temperature. Kudos to Samsung for their customer-focused approach, calling to follow up on the repair and making sure we were treated right.

      A few problems

      I read a lot of reviews complaining about the icemaker. I just had this installed yesterday and in a separate cup, it made ice within hours. I still can't get it to make ice in the icemaker, though. The water runs fine. I did an instant chat with someone overseas this morning, who basically was reading the same manual as I was. Online, I found a reset button (which I hadn't seen in the manual) and tried that. I find the bottom of the icemaker hard to put back on, which you seem to have to do to get to the reset button. Looks like I might already have to have repair come out to check the water valve to the unit. disappointed in that. Also, be aware, that the words on the side of the display panel: Energy Saver, Freezer, Frig and Lighting, don't light up! See picture below. You need a light on and be right in front of the panel to see what they are. The support person today told me they're not supposed to light up. A miss on the part of Samsung. When measuring for delivery, do be aware you can rely on the dimension of the depth without the handles since those are put on in the house. They also have the capability to take off the doors of the frig if needed. Just some tips that would've been helpful in making my selection. Otherwise, it cooled quickly, the lighting is great in both the frig and freezer, and I like that it has the third drawer that I use for meat and cheese, that a lot of units seemed to have done away with.

      Fridge died in under a year and Samsung wont help


      My refrigerator died yesterday. I woke up to a sopping wet floor and most of my freezer stuff melted. I tried the basic troubleshooting and waited several hours. It hasn’t cooled back down. I called for service and I was told it’s out of warrantee. It is not, but to verify that will take 2 days. Why does it take two days for someone to read my receipt that I sent in via email? This is ridiculous. Add to that that they are refusing to setup a repair order until my warrantee is verified. and that will take another two days at least because there is no one in my area apparently. So now I’m looking at being without a refrigerator for at least 5 days. I have small kids. How exactly am I supposed to manage without a refrigerator for a week? I told them just to setup the repair and I would pay for it then they could reimburse me once they had verified this. They refused. Then after leaving my on hold several times for several minutes each time they hung up on me after I told them to fix it. Is this how you guys do business? Sell sub par products and then dick people around rather than honor your warrantees? This is the worst service I have ever had and unfortunately I have had to deal with Google so that is saying a lot. You guys need to clean up your service department.

      I bought this fridge to replace my 10 year old whirlpool and have been very pleased so far. At first my Samsung fridge was making a loud noise when water ran from the main line to the ice maker, it was really loud and lasted about 3-5 seconds. I contacted best buy and a rep there told me this was normal, I then started doing some research just to find out that most places I checked also mentioned this noise was normal. I called best buy again because if this was the case I was going to return it and exchange it for another model. The supervisor at best buy did some more research but this time by contacting Samsung. A tech at Samsung advised for me to check my water pressure but I was not sure that was the problem since best buy installed my fridge. I did a test I was not aware of when checking your water pressure. First take a glass/cup and fill it with water through the water dispenser and count for 10 seconds, after 10 seconds, stop and measure how much water filled on to glass/cup. You should have 6 Oz of water for every 10 seconds, I found out my fridge was dispensing 13 Oz every 10 seconds so my water pressure was too high. I then continue to adjust the pressure by turning the main line (in back of the fridge) off then slowly turning it on again and continuing with the water tests until I reached 6oz of water to every ten seconds. To my surprise the noise stop COMPLETELY!!! I never thought best buy would install a refrigerator without checking the water pressure. So don't panic if you are experiencing a similar situation..CHECK UR WATER PRESSURE because best buy won't. Worse case scenario, if this does not work for you, you have 15 days to return it no questions asked. I hope this helps

      Everything went well for 7 months

      THEN the ice maker stopped working and tiny dents appeared spontaneously on the front of the fridge above the ice dispenser on the other side of the ice maker. The first dent, we argued about, but there was no one else in our home and while we were arguing, at least a dozen more dents appeared in a pattern on the door. I'm sure it has something to do with the ice maker and know they use dry ice to fix dents, so as weird as this sounds, it's a thing. I have video. The ice maker began to slowly work again, but it doesn't make nearly enough ice like it did the first 7 months. And now it's all dented. I am absolutely furious with this purchase. To make matters worse, Samsung had a special where if you buy 3 or more major appliances, you get back $300. So we bought 5 appliances. They never sent the money after 6 months, so I had to call. After my call, they sent me a debit card with $150 on it. So I had to call again and still waiting for the other half. The person on the phone acted like Samsung didn't have the money to honor the promise even though this indicates they sold a BUNCH of major appliances. The microwave, stove with convection and dishwasher are all doing very well, but if we have to buy a new refrigerator, there's no way it will be a Samsung. I'm glad I bought the Geek Squad insurance though i haven't had time to call them yet. I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the weird tiny dents that just appear. Please, if you have experienced this, reply to let me know.

      We have had the fridge for about 6 months. My wife felt the fridge side wasn't getting as cold as it should. After I lifted the fridge off the front rollers and leveled it out she said it seems to be much colder despite the fact the temp reading didn't change. We do have the gurgling but I have read mixed reasons why that happens and I'm not concerned with it all. Ice and water are working great. We had a water cooler before (with those big bottles) that worked awesome but so far we haven't had a need to set it back up. The cost of the bottled water almost offsets the cost of filters but adding in the convenience of not having to lug those large bottles offsets any extra cost for me. Ice drops are a little loud but not much louder than my previous fridge. I have had only one ice jam and not ever having an in door ice dispenser just left it jammed. Unfortunately, the jam left the small door the ice falls out open a little which allowed warm air to enter the dispenser and was melting the ice. So I had a small puddle from that which taught me valuable lesson .... never leave it jammed. My bad. I will add the jam was easy to clear and it hasn't happened since. Other than that one incident, we haven't had any water problems with the ice and water dispenser. Also, no problems with the freezer side. Both sides are very well lit too.
