Love it but top of doors doesn't seal right

      • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

This thing is absolutely dead silent. It never makes a noise, other than when I finally was curious about the icemaker, and turned on the icemaker function. Then I could hear it slightly when the ice cubes dropped. But it's horrendously SLOW - I turned it on before bed one night, about midnight or so, and it was about 7 AM I heard the first cubes hit the container. Almost 48 hours later, I still only have the single layer on the bottom of the ice container. Not even a second layer piled up yet in 2 days. So don't rely on this icemaker for anything like parties, it's WAY too slow. Even the 12 year old Kenmore Elite it replaced made ice way, way faster than this. My other concern is the seal. Where the doors both close at top, near that small cut out slit for the folding part of the left door, each side's seal bulges out slightly as if they're supposed to meet and overlap. But they don't meet. So I can actually see this slit in the plastic where the folding part goes, and when you open the door and look, there's nothing else in there to keep cold in or warm out, so that 1/4" gap is literally a hole straight into the fridge. Seems poor engineering on their part that they can't even seal the fridge shut completely. Still trying to find out if this is an intentional design feature for some reason, that it has to maintain some way to flow air from in to out or something. You can literally see the light coming through this with the doors closed before the lights turn off. I was originally looking at a GE fridge because I liked the LED lights down in the crisper drawer area that they explicitly showed, it wasn't lit just from on top like this looked. I was pleased to find that this also has LED's on each side of the fridge in the crisper area, so they are well lit too. No photos I saw anywhere revealed that feature, so I wanted to mention it specifically since it was one of the things that almost decided me against this unit. I didn't want one this wide, since I knew it was going to be a squeeze. But my area was a hair over 36" wide, so I knew it SHOULD fit, but what I wasn't sure about, and what caused me problems, were the wheels and the base. My other fridge had wheels slightly more inside, so the baseboard wasn't an issue. But this one apparently doesn't have any forgiveness at the bottom - the shoe molding had to be ripped out, and it's still kind of squeezed in there... I probably should've pulled off the entire baseboard piece but left it was it was since it was in and appeared level without us having to do any adjustments with it. I can't stress how quiet this thing is. Amazing compared to my last one, which didn't make much noise either, and I always thought was very quite, but compared to this, wasn't as quiet as it could've been... I like the wide pull out deli drawer on the bottom, that was actually the feature that made me pick this despite the apparent lack of LED lights in the crisper area. I love it for the lunch meat, cheese, and such. We get shrimp sometimes, which since we're in Wisconsin is usually frozen, so it is a good place to defrost that as well, although I still have to play some with the temp adjustment to find what works best for what. Freezer compartment is decent, but I wish there had been a way to remove the icemaker part, since you lose a chunk of space on that top left shelf because of it, and since we usually had the water turned off and didn't use the icemaker, for us it's simply lost space. But it's just me and my son, so it wasn't as if suddenly we couldn't fit food anymore. And the space lost is actually less than I lost with the old fridge's unused icemaker. I kind of miss having the separate area on the door that I used to have, since that, with a shelf inside my old top freezer fridge, gave me three separate areas I could organize my food into, but we're learning to adapt to having to deal with a sliding shelf to get at stuff in the bottom of the freezer. It's a bit more of a pain, but we use the freezer maybe 1% of the time if you simply count how many times we are opening each door. For me, having all the fridge stuff easily accessible at waist level or higher, no bending down to get something out of the back of the bottom shelf all the time, makes the freezer inconvenience well worth it. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes even just going in for a bottle of juice or iced tea. There is so much more room in here than the one we replaced, it looked naked and empty after we moved all the foot into it from the old fridge, which looked pretty averagely filled. I still have to find the right adjustments for the shelves for our use, I haven't changed them from the default yet, since the doors have so much storage for large things, we haven't had to get much in the shelves yet that wouldn't fit the standard layout. I like the quick slide shelf though that you can adjust so it slides back, and leaves a temporary tall spot for something on the lower shelf to fit higher than it could. I had that in the fridge I replaced, where I kept my iced tea jugs. Not so critical now though with the space on the doors. The one thing I miss is a place for my eggs and butter. The outside is definitely a fingerprint magnet, so get one of the nice microfiber cloths for stainless steel and the cleaning stuff specifically for it. All told, other than the gap I haven't figured out yet leaving a hole directly into the fridge uncovered, and the insanely slow ice maker, this is a sweet, sweet fridge. If it weren't for the hole I haven't figured out, I'd give it 5 stars.

So much trouble, but in the end, worth every penny

My family purchased this item back in November. At the end of Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, we got this for 1200 dollars. This was an absolute steal for us. Regularly priced at 2000+ for that price? We went through the trouble of special order because they did not have this at the warehouse and that took about 3 weeks. During this time, Best Buy messed up quite a bit... in delivery department... etc... but in the end, the customer service representatives did wonderful jobs to remedy the problem and I am completely satisfied. It was quite an extensive problem from their end (which included changing the delivery dates more than twice the day before the scheduled delivery...) ... but they did provide me with 150 dollars gift card for the trouble that I went through. So... I guess I purchased this amazing fridge for $1050 + tax! The first fridge that I received in late December was actually... a defect. For a few days I thought that it was normal that a fridge makes scratchy noises that sounded like fans hitting something, but it started to annoy everyone off in the family. I looked at the reviews of this site and I found that the other customers had very quiet fridge! So I stopped by the local Best Buy to speak with the floor manager at the appliances section and I gave him the recorded sound of my fridge. He said the fridge was definitely a defect and I proceeded with an exchange on the phone (since it was an online purchase). The rep was very nice again and I received the new fridge yesterday. The fridge is so quiet, as others have said in this page. I love the LED lighting inside of the fridge - it gives the feeling that it is clean inside (compared to regular yellowish lighting). This fridge allows power cooling and freezing that allows fast cooling whenever necessary. I don't use ice maker so I turned that off. The deli storage allows 3 different temperatures depending on what's inside. I store my veggies in there under fresh temperature. (3C compared to 1C in the rest of the fridge). We got the stainless platinum color and it's absolutely gorgeous. No fingerprints and you can use magnets! It should be advised, however, that any dent made in this particular color can be more visible than other colors. I was able to see one, on my new fridge, during the installation. The delivery guys actually hit the door handle hard against the door when they were installing and that made a dent. However, the dent could be covered by the door handle itself so it was not a problem for me. I let that one go... >:P The delivery guys were extremely professional and knowledgeable about the product. I was pleasantly surprised with their answers when I asked them several questions. In the end, I am satisfied with this fridge. I would recommend it to others. Extremely satisfied with the customer service department. Anyone would recognize Amazon's amazing customer service experience, but I would rank my experience with Best Buy along with my Amazon's service.

      Frustrated by Samsung Support

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

This was an excellent refrigerator for the first 10 months. But then it started running all the time and the freezer defrosted. Still under the warranty, I went to Samsung's support site and did my best to work within their system. Day 1: I filled out the forms, re-uploaded the receipt for an already registered product, and even recorded a detailed video illustrating the problem. Day 2: 24 hours later I missed a call and checked my voicemail. It was a woman telling me that since I didn't answer on the first call, my ticket was closed. There was an impersonal email linking to two help articles that obviously didn't apply if someone had read my description and watched the video. I called back and re-initiated a ticket, explaining that the unit was not off (I checked) and that regardless of whether my thermometer should match the internal display, there should not be standing water in a functioning freezer. They told me someone would get back to me in 24-48 hours. Day 3: Call comes about 24 hours later. I swerve off the highway to take the call, fearing my ticket might get closed again if I wasn't immediately available. I explain that the freezer isn't freezing, and that the refrigerator will not get below 43 degrees. He asks me what temperature the freezer is. I explain that once the ice melted I quit checking, but I was confident it was above 32 degrees. He checks the schedule and says that there is an available appointment the following day. Huzzah! Day 4: Ummm. No call? No technician? I pack ice into the refrigerator to keep the milk chilled. Day 5: I call Samsung support again. There is a record of the call on day 3, and she explains it's normal that you have to go through 24-48 hours and at least two calls before they will make an appointment with a technician. I ask where my Friday appointment was. She had no record, but could offer me the next available appointment on TUESDAY. I live in the Denver Metro area, and a Google Maps search for Appliance Repair looks like a polka dot skirt, but the only technician that Samsung can work with is an hour drive away, and will try and get to the house between 12 and 3 on DAY 7. We have decided to come to terms by eating fresh rather than frozen. Humans did well for thousands of years without refrigeration. Who am I to complain? Day 7: To be continued....

      Great Overall

Let's start with the good. This is a beautiful fridge. It's very convenient and the easy open freezer is great. The interior lighting is very good. As for noise, please read below. Here is what I learned from the install guys: this model is made in 3 locations: Korea, China and Mexico. He notices a difference in weight between them (seems odd) and a difference in "noise". When pressed, he admitted that most of the noise complaints are for the ice maker. Well, of course the falling ice makes noise, we all get that. But there does indeed seem to be a design problem where the ice maker itself makes loud snapping/popping sounds. an attempt to test this I have not yet turned on or hooked up the ice maker. And so far it's very quiet. The fridge seems to have a 2 or 3 speed compressor. It runs high speed to get down to temp and is the loudest of course. The slowest (quietest) may be just an internal circulation fan. In this mode I have to stand a foot away in a quiet room to hear that. In the loudest state I can hear it 20ft away, again in a quiet room. In the middle state I can hear it 20ft away, but only if I'm listening for it. All in all it's not bad at all IMHO and my wife and I agree it's quieter than our GE was. Does this mean that the popping sounds will not start in the future? No. But from some reviewers, the installer and my experience so far it's the ice maker that is the real trouble. So surely you are wondering what to do if you want the ice maker. All I can say is try your luck as some units apparently are quiet, or buy a different model/brand. Best Buy supposedly will take this unit back within 14 days and credit you for a different model/brand. For us, we are just not going to use the ice maker at all and suffer that inconvenience rather than open the risk of annoying noises. Oh, one more thing, I noticed that the mfgr label (bottom left side of fridge) shows this unit as model blabla-04. I wonder if it's the 4th version, maybe the noise problem is fixed? Just wondering. Wishing you the best:)

Gorgeous fridge at a great price

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I've had this fridge over a month now, and if a hurricane blew my kitchen away I'd definitely buy this model again. The interior of this unit is gorgeous with it's multiple LED lights and controls. Having the water filter placed between the bins will make it easy to replace. So much storage in the doors negates the need for the unit to be deep so there's no over-reaching and items can't get lost. I use one door shelf as a breakfast station with oj, butter, jelly and sausage (eggs sit nearby.) The pull out deli section became my lunch fixings & munchie station. I'm able to keep this fridge and the freezer organized with no effort and can see everything at a glance. I'm so appreciative it's offered in beautiful white... in my opinion, stainless is so overdone and white appliances feel more appropriate for an average kitchen. The slick exterior and handles aren't a magnate for smudges like the old textured surfaces. And the little chime that reminds me if a door has been left open too long has come in very handy since the doors don't close on their own with a half-push like a big heavy fridge door does. The freezer section is huge and having the most used items in it's top drawer with the ice bucket is a plus. I was afraid I'd miss the ice/water dispenser in the door but I honestly don't. It's not a big deal to open the freezer drawer for ice, and a two-cup plastic measuring cup with handle makes a nice scoop for cleanliness. I always worried about sanitary aspects of my old fridge's dispenser. With my back problems, having everything easily reachable is a more than fair trade for ice/water in the door. Unlike my older fridge, keeping this freezer fuller muffles the sound of the ice dropping (which isn't much of an issue in the first place.)

      Terrible product and support

After dealing with Samsung a few years ago refusing to honor a problem with a large screen TV, that was one week out of warranty, I should have known better. But stupidly I purchased this unit on July 8th and was delivered on the 18th. After 24 hours, it was clear that the ice maker was not working. A call to Samsung was not very assuring. A service call was scheduled for 9 days later. The next morning, the ice maker started working, so we cancelled the call Yesterday morning the freezer was at -21F, clearly outside of the spec’s in the manual. Another call to Samsung that was a total waste of time. Unplug, plug in, try this and that. Three hours later my wife notice that the fridge side was up to 45F, More calls to Samsung, more frustration. I had t ask for another person I could understand. Again, we went through the same repetitive questions as before. My wife had to take the phone away from me. She thought I was having a stroke. Having purchased the unit from Best Buy, I called the store and spoke with a manager and agreed that this was ridiculous and that they would replace the unit. They were totally professional and a pleasure to deal with. All I can say is don’t buy anything from Samsung. The quality is inferior and their support is totally useless.

Nice but doors don't fully seal

I like this much better than my 12 year old Whirlpool top freezer model. I love how much easier it is to get things in and out of the fridge, and while the freezer is more of a pain with the rolling / sliding top shelf, I don't use it often enough for that to be a major issue, since the fridge is what we get into and out of most often. I like the concept of the wide deli tray, but the reality is that I hate having to open both doors every time I want to get something out of it. I wish they had made this maybe full width as an option by sliding something in place to lock two separate parts together, or disconnect them, and have two half drawers that could come out individually, so I can get at something without having to waste the energy of cooling off as much as I lose by opening booth doors. This thing is dead silent though, other than the icemaker, which is much quieter than even my 12 year old model I gave away after i got this. When it isn't making ice, I never hear a sound, and I sit in a great room with no walls or anything between my normal sitting place and the fridge. It's maybe 10 feet behind me, and I don't hear anything unless it's dropping the ice cubes. Love the silence. But the flipper part on the left door - it doesn't cover the full length of the opening, so I end up with either a gap on top, or a gap on bottom, that you can actually SEE INTO THE FRIDGE. So there's basically a hole all the time. I don't know if this is by design or just a defect with my part, since I've not heard back from anyone about my inquiries yet. So that's why I dropped a couple stars. Without the gap, I'd give it 4 stars solid.

Great Fridge for Those With Simple Needs

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

Basically, this model is the intermediate level product between two others: the lower model houses the water filter for the ice maker externally, behind the fridge, and the higher model includes a water dispenser inside of the fridge. I selected this model because I didn't want to have to pull the fridge away from the wall every time I needed to change the water filter, and I didn't want to pay extra for the water dispenser. I think it was the right decision. We've had the fridge for over a month we love it. The LED light in the fridge portion illuminates the inside well. Combined with the clear glass, spill-proof shelves, visibility is great. However, the depth of the drawers does tend to hide the rear-most items well, so those who purchase this model should check their drawers periodically to make sure you're not forgetting about untouched, hidden items (out of sight, out of mind). The freezer portion is a bit smaller than we were used to (we previously had a side-by-side), but for us, it's a good change. We've been changing out eating habits to move away of reliance on a lot of frozen foods, which has helped us to start eating healthier. On a final note, I find that not having an ice maker and/or water dispenser in the door helps to provide so much more room. We don't miss either feature.
