Coolest Refrigerator Out There
Posted .You can't go wrong, the built-in WiFi apps are amazing and the fridge keeps every compartment at whatever temperature you deem appropriate. The interior lighting is great as well, something you may not think about when purchasing a refrigerator. Samsung should paying me commission because everyone who sees our fridge immediately goes out and buys their own. From the gmail calendar sync, pandora, and live weather and headlines, it's the coolest fridge out there, in many more ways than one! The ONLY negative I can think is that you cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network that has a hidden name. There's no way to manually enter an SSID that is hidden and have it work. No big deal and has no bearing on the performance of the fridge

One Awsom Box 4 1/2 stars
||Posted .Had this for about 5 months now and LOVE IT!! Looked at this for a while but held back on the price then it went on super sale. Same one with or with out touch screen. Screen was about $200.00 more but I thought it was worth it just for the cool factor. Actually kinda of nice to have. This has just about everything that you could have. The French doors are the way to go. Very good lighting & layout. You can actually find stuff in this thing. Open the door and the inside is flat, you can sit things on it while you're digging through or rearranging. Door shelves are useable. Now to the "Stupid ice & water". Icemaker is loud when it dumps out but only a problem at night in a quiet house. The ice & water takes its time to stop. You have to push the doors shut, they won't close without a push but you get used to it in about a week. The only drawbacks that I've fount so far. But for that I would have given it 5 stars. The third drawer is great. Use that for every day stuff, eliminates a lot of digging. Dual cooling and the screen shows current temps. Also has Weatherbug & other cool apps. If your gonna have a fridge might as well have one you like, is functional and is really cool! Be advised that this is not a cheep unit (around $2,300.00 on sale) and not cheaply built. This is not only a big purchase but something that you are going to use everyday, spend time on research before you buy. Go to Best Buy & look at and play with it. Compare to others, note quality. If you got this far in this rambling and do decide this is the one for you I think that you will be happy with your choice. Any questions? Just ask. Oh, if you have children or grandchildren it's real easy to keep clean.

Nice refrigerator
Posted .We have had this refrigerator for over a year. It is the first Samsung purchase we made from Best Buy after we bought our home. Best Buy had a price match gurantee and we used it twice to take advantage for it, once when Lowes was selling the refrigerator at a lower price and once when Best Buy was further selling it at a lower price. We were told by the representative to keep searching for lower prices. We later came to know that the price match would be done only once but they kept their word since their representative had told us they would price match a second time. Over all, we got a good deal thanks to the price match. Best Buy delivered and installed it for us and everything was done in a couple of days! As far as looks go, it is gorgeous. We had never had a stainless steel refrigerator earlier and my wife wanted one for our new home. In spite of its size, it does not look like it takes up space in our kitchen. As is the problem with all stainless steel appliances, it is easy to see the finger prints left behind. On the plus side, it is easy to clean the prints with a stainless steel wipe. It catches the attention of all the guests who come home. I love the fact that the vegetable drawers are at hands reach and I no longer have to bend down as I did in the apartment. We cook fresh everyday and this is one compartment that gets used a lot and it can certainly store quite some vegetables. On any given week, we buy at least 1 cabbage, 1 cauliflower, 2-3 lbs tomatoes, 2-3 lbs potatoes and so many other vegetables and everything fits in. The side shelves of the refrigerator on the left side door are a little smaller in size and one can store only small items but packs in a good number if you have several of those! As far as the shelves on the right side door go, they are more spacious. The only problem I have is that it can at maximum fit 2 gallon containers of milk or juice. The shelves height although adjustable can then no longer fit anything as large or tall as this. This refrigerator has an ice maker and dispenses cold water. The water is not too cold in the summer (it reminds me of water that has been stored in a clay pot), which works for us but may not for others who like their water to be ice cold. During the winter, the water is ice cold and we dont use the water dispenser! The icemaker allows for two configurations, crushed ice and cubed ice. We find the crushed ice useful when we need the water to be colder than what is dispensed. We changed the water filter once and found it easy to change. We switched off the main water supply, changed the filter and turned the water back on. The ice maker has quite some capacity and we have used it to the maximum capacity when we made snow cones and could get enough ice to make snow cones for more than a dozen people! The ice gets made fast too. I bought this refrigerator mainly because of the middle drawer and with the intent that if and when our family grows, our child will have snacks available at their arms reach. In the meantime, we use this drawer when we have filed the other compartments to the brim and can adjust the temperature so that it serves a refrigerator shelf :). We have used this drawer to store drinks just before a party, to store meat that we intend to cook within a few days, and to store party platters. It especially comes in useful for cooling down desserts like puddings and since I am on the shorter side, this shelf turns out to be perfect. The vegetables stay fresh at least for 3 weeks and sometimes longer! The refrigerator has amazing storage capacity and I have never run out of space. I like the fact that one can change the configuration of the refrigerator to allow for taller items as an when it is needed. Also one can pull the shelves out a little to access the items at the back more easily which I think is a handy feature that will come in useful when the refrigerator is packed to its capacity. We have not yet had our refrigerator packed to the capacity. This is the first time I have a bottom freezer. I chose this configuration because I hardly use the freezer but wanted to allow for a time in future where due to time constraints I may need to freeze food. It certainly has a huge capacity and I do not use it to its full capacity. I love the upper drawer of the refrigerator and that is where most things fit in. One of the disadvantages of this configuration is that you have to slide out the door to open the freezer compartment. Therefore, when we put something that is liquid in the freezer e.g slushies, it tends to spill in the process of opening the door. I need to experiment to see if I can install the upper drawer at a lower height to prevent such occurences in future. Other than that, the freezer is just a pit and unless one decides to buy storage containers or dividers, there is a lot of foraging involved if one stores a lot of food in the freezer :). We don't so it works for us. The tempered glass shelves are beautiful and dont allow spills from the top shelves to come down to the bottom. They are easy to clean. Remove them, soak them in some water and clean them. One needs to read the manual though to figure out how to remove them the first time. I was unable to remove one of the shelves from the refrigerator door for cleaning. It might be that whoever installed it, fit it so tight and I was afraid of damaging the refrigerator. The other shelves came out easily. Unfortunately for us, the right side of the refrigerator door is right against the pantry door which means that I cannot open the door wide enough to remove the vegetable tray on the right side and will have to make do with just wiping the tray down. I have not yet used the flexible pizza pocket since we do not buy and store pizza at home. We loved our refrigerator and wanted it to be scratch free and bought refrigerator liners from Container Store and that is when we saw that we needed a dozen of them which speaks for the capacity of this refrigerator! This refrigerator plays music using Pandora and it turns out to be quite nice! The speaker system is quite good. However, with the advent of smart phones playing music can also be done on your phone. I use Google Calendar in normal life so the fact that it allows for google calendar was good and my husband can look it up. The disadvantage is that you can login to only one account so one needs to share their calendars I suppose for both spouses to be able to see. As far as the shopping list app goes, it did not match up to my expectations. They allow for choosing only from a particular list of foods and depending on the culture and cuisine, there are way more ingredients than this list supports for. In the end, I stopped using this feature as I found it cumbersome. They should allow for manual input of the items in the refrigerator. We do not use the memos for now. I think adding a stylus will be useful since it would make it easier to write the memo. There is a twitter app but we don't use it since we don't use twitter although I would say using your smart phone would be easier. It is useful when you want to post a quick update. I use it for seeing the time and the weather, but since we have clocks around the home that show us the weather, this feature did not add too much but will definitely be a wow factor for someone who does not have other handy means of seeing the weather. I use it sometimes for scrolling through the news. There is access to one of the cooking websites - epicurious, which does not sit that well with me since I access a whole lot of different websites. If there had been a web browser, it would have been great. I have not uploaded photos so it is not a feature that is used much. The screen is good, and i think it is easy to change the temperature of the refrigerator, freezer from the screen. Wifi was also easy to set up. Overall, we are happy with the refrigerator. The apps could do better. If one does get a good deal, it is a refrigerator worth buying!

This is a great refrigerator for just about anyone
||Posted .I had the refrigerator delivered and within a week the display went out and needed to be replaced. The display (internet access with apps) and the extra drawer were two of the main reasons I bought this particular model. The display has been replaced. I am very pleased with the layout and design of the doors and drawers. Initially I thought it was a little awkward, but as I used it and became familiar with the capabilities I realized that I was becoming more organized and I could actually SEE what was in the refrigerator (awesome LED lights in all the compartments) and I developed a system for storing things like fresh meats, cheese, and soda. Within three weeks I had developed an efficient system and I was automatically going to the correct area when putting food away or going to get something out. The extra drawer is where I keep fresh meat, cheese and my soda. As soon as I open the drawer I am reminded of the fresh food I have available to eat and it no longer gets shoved toward the back of the refrigerator and is forgotten. The bottom freezer is huge and is also much easier to organize and load. I am 5 feet tall and in the past, being able to see what was in the freezer required a foot stool and moving things around while I search for what I thought should be in the freezer. The ice maker and water dispenser actually work the way they are supposed to, The ice/water dispenser is taller and wider than most which is a big plus for filling water bottles, or putting ice in a bowl. The temperature for each compartment is consistent with its individual settings. Nice to have a refrigerator that cools/freezes to my expectation and doesn't freeze items in the refrigerator section or fail to freeze frozen items as hard as it should. , I can't say enough good things about the refrigerator and I would recommend it to anyone that asks. I think I am now the envy of the neighborhood. :)

Good fridge, does what its supposed to do and more
||Posted .The fridge is great. It does what it's supposed to do and then some. The ice chest/dispenser inside the fridge makes for awkward size storage spaces that sit there empty--can't find anything to put there. The middle fridge drawer is good, other than the dividers just move each time you open and close it, rendering them somewhat pointless. The freezer is great, very large capacity and very easy to organize to ones liking, love the "pizza slot" on the door. As far as the screen and all the apps, it's mediocre... The best part of it is Pandora, however once you're listening to music on it you must stay in the app, if you navigate away from it to do anything else, such as pull up some recipes on Epicurus or look at your Google calendar, Pandora shuts off... As far as the wi-fi connectivity, your router must be fairly close to the fridge in order to get a decent signal, would not recommend this for any older or less tech savvy individuals. I would recommend playing around with it for a while before buying--really get to see if YOU like it and if it fits your needs/wants. Even if I had done so, and know about it what I know know, I still would have purchased it.

Great Fridge, and a Cool Toy for Daddy to Show Off
Posted .So, we've had this for about 3 weeks now, and this replaces an Electrolux fridge which was only 2 years old. Gotta say I am very happy with my purchase. Up front, let me repeat what I've read in a few other reviews: The very first time you plug this fridge in, you will need to "reboot" it a few times to get the temp down to its set temperature. According to the display, the fridge was down in the 30s within an hour of plugging it in, however a fridge thermometer read in the 50s. After 2 reboots (unplug, plug it in, wait for temp display to read in the 30s), the display finally read the correct temperature. Since then, we have had no troubles with the temperature. Now, let me address some complaints others have had - the noise from the ice maker. To me, it *is* a bit louder than our Electrolux French Door, but it's not that bad. Plus, we're talking about a half second's worth of noise, at the most, every few hours. On the plus side, we have not had a problem with ice production. That said, the first few ice dumps will be especially loud since it is dumping ice into an empty plastic bin - and that's going to be noisy. However, once the ice bin has a bit of ice in it, the noise is not nearly as bad. Our Electrolux would easily run out of ice, and would frequently (especially when we have guests) just stop making ice. So far, no issues here. The fridge is very well lit, and uses LEDs, so no worries about additional heat from incandescents. My only (very minor) complaint here is that there could be a bit more lighting in the back, but it's by no means dark in there. Another minor complaint with the fridge is the shelf space in the door on the ice maker/dispenser side. The middle shelf is almost completely useless. It's very thin (like 1.5-2 inches deep), and there is not much space between this shelf and the one above it. The shelves on the ice maker side are not adjustable, though they are removable. As for the remaining shelf space, we were able to fit our "door stuff" in these door shelves fine, though it did require moving things around a bit - should be no surprise here, though. Now, here's my only real complaint about this fridge - the freezer door. The first issue is that it will not stay open. This really becomes an issue when you're digging through the freezer to find dinner (or trying to put away groceries), and the door just starts to close on you. My second issue with the freezer drawer is that it really should come out another 4-6 inches. The freezer drawer on our Electrolux was very nice in that it would come out almost all the way, so it would be easy to get to almost anything in the freezer. This Samsung still has a good bit of the drawer inside the freezer space, so you have to reach inside to get at what you need. As for the apps panel, it does seem to be Android-based. It would have been nice if we were just given a stock Android interface so that it could be customizable. That said, it's really cool to have my Google Calendar on the fridge for reminders. Haven't used other apps that much yet, though. It is something that gets friends to say "Oh Cool!" when I show off the fridge :-) Overall I am very happy with the fridge.

Ok Replacement Frig
Posted .Have had frig for 2 months now.....overall feelings....just an OK frig and we still use our other side-by-side frig currently Pros - freezer controls can be monitored from outside - app screen is pretty neat and techie, but takes a little know how - uploaded pics of kids to display on screen Cons - Weatherbug doesn't stay updated automatically, and tried changing locations - Freezer door does not shut completely all the time and we have the alarm on door but doesn't go off unless the door is open a certain percentage - Can't fill up freezer unless you want everything hidden under other stuff and then have to dig around for items

Awesome refrigerator
||Posted .I Love this refrigerator! It is much of a conversation piece for everyone who has been in our brand new home. We've only had it less than a month and so far it has met or exceeded our expectations with every feature. The speaker system for the Pandora radio has an awesome sound. Love having the date, time, weather, news, etc., etc., right at eyes view in my kitchen. I would highly recommend this excellent product to anyone in the market for a state of the art home appliance.

Q: QuestionDoes the Fridge have a speaker? In your answer to the question what warrents the $500 price increase you responded with this "The Apps that come pre-loaded are ideally suited for the kitchen: search for recipes on Epicurious or view photos from a memory card or your online Picasa photo album; check the day's weather through WeatherBug, the latest news headlines on AP News, or your family's schedule from Google Calendar; follow your favorites on Twitter or listen to them on Pandora Radio;" You included Pandora Radio as on of the apps you could lsiten to. So if you can use Pandora Radio on the fridge does this mean there is some sort of built in speaker in the fridge or if not then what exactly did you mean on how one could listen to Pandora Radio with the Fridge?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Another good question...yes, the RF4289 does have a speaker built-in so you can listen to your favorite Pandora Radio mixes right from the fridge! - Ms. Samsung

Q: QuestionIs this model able to support magnets?Does this model of stainless steel support typical refrigerator magnets or do we need to wait until the Platinum version comes out. If the answer is wait, then for how long?
Asked by Bob.
- A:Answer This is true stainless so it's not magnetic. You can put magnets on the side though.

Q: QuestionCan you get more Apps for the Fridge, if so where? Can you get more apps for the Fridge if so from where? And you can download them directly with the built in wi fi or do you need to download them to a flash drive and then upload them with the flash drive to the fridge?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer At this point in time the only available apps for the RF4289 are those that come pre-loaded: Memo, Epicurious Recipes, Picasa Photos, WeatherBug, Calendar, AP News, Pandora and Twitter. However, it is possible that more could be made available in the future, at which time it will be determined which of the available tools (WiFi, SD card, etc.) would be used to access them. Q: QuestionDoes this fridge have the option of adding external speakersI noticed that you said earlier that this fridge has its own speaker to be able to listen to pandora and other apps. Is it possible to add an external set of speakers for better quality audio or perhaps louder volumes (i.e. for the hearing impaired or a noisy or large room).
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer There are no external outputs for speakers at this time.
Answered by Anonymous
Q: QuestionWhat new features warrant the $500.00 price increase?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Great question! Compared to the RF4287, the RF4289 features an 8" LCD Digital Display with built-in WiFi. The Apps that come pre-loaded are ideally suited for the kitchen: search for recipes on Epicurious or view photos from a memory card or your online Picasa photo album; check the day's weather through WeatherBug, the latest news headlines on AP News, or your family's schedule from Google Calendar; follow your favorites on Twitter or listen to them on Pandora Radio; and leave notes and reminders for yourself or your family with the Memo feature. Of course, the RF4289 also includes the same great features that have made the RF4287 so popular - the independently-controlled middle Flex Zone Drawer as well as Samsung's signature Twin Cooling Plus system, LED lighting, slim design space saving water filter and in-door water and cubed or crushed ice. Thank you for your interest! Ms. Samsung
Answered by MsSamsung
Q: QuestionWhy not add A basic browser? With all the features was there a specific reason a basic browser was not added?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The Apps that have been included initially in the RF4289 LCD display with WiFi were chosen and developed specifically for their usefulness in the kitchen, allowing for activities like searching for recipes, weather, news and tweets, displaying notes and photos, checking the family's schedule and listening to music. Though no additional Apps or options such as browsing the web are available at this time, the display does feature the ability to be updated if other options do become available in the future. Thank you for your interest, and for the suggestion, Ms. Samsung

Q: QuestionHow do you get the ice maker to switch back from crushed to cubes
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer To switch from Crushed to Cubed ice on your RF4289HARS, touch the dispenser status icon on the home screen. When Cubed Ice is selected after using the Crushed ice feature, a small amount of residual crushed ice might be produced - this is normal. For more information, please refer to page 69 of the user manual. Thank you, Ms. Samsung
