Nice looking and functional but unreliable

We bought the fridge in October 2016. We loved it. But it broke down by March 2017. Pros: -great looking -excellent functions -4 doors makes it very customiz-able! Cons: -not a big issue but for completeness. Ice maker dispenses ice very slowly -3 parts failed! poor reliability (or did we get a lemon?) -Samsung support sucks! Through this time, we survived on a cooler filled with ice and shopping daily for groceries (thinking it will be over soon...my fault for not get a second fridge!) Summary below: 1) 5 calls over one week to get a response and then to be told that a service company will contact us. 2) after a few days and no calls, we called them back and asked for service company numbers so we can call them. On calling the service company we found out that they did not service Samsung anymore. 3) We got more numbers for a few more service companies and got the run around (with many companies not servicing anymore) until one agreed to come out. This is something Samsung should be doing for us! 4) Week 3: service guy came and said 3 parts failed including the compressor. Said parts will take 3 weeks to arrive and then additional time for him to come out and fix. 5) called Samsung to protest and they said nothing we can do. 6) called Samsung office of the president and they made some promised about expediting it or giving us a refund or replacement. 7) Week 4: we called again because nothing was progressing and then they said they are already processing the refund!! Just bad communication. So when will we get the money? "we have to process it first..." OK how long? "...4 days since our returns system is broken but we will call you" Can we a buy a new fridge in the mean time? "Best wait..." 8) Week 5: called back in 4 days since there was no communication and they had no idea the refund was happening...so we went through the drama again and then they assured us it will go through this time. 9) 6 weeks later, we still don't have a check but had agreement that we can buy a fridge. Understand that all fridges have a problem or two but it is the support that matters. Samsung did not leave us with a good experience.

    The First Review

I usually don't like "early" reviews. But since there are not any, here goes. This our second new Samsung Refer, after 10 years with the first. We have had this one for less than 3 weeks. As with most Samsung's we we're concerned with the ice-maker. The ice maker leaves one drip sometimes if you pull your glass away too quickly. I followed the set-up directions to the letter for the ice-maker to a "T" I would say that about 99% of the time, it does't drip. We love the "Flex Zone". The lower right hand door section can be used as a fridge or a freezer. It runs very quietly. It keeps things colder than the other one. We like the fact that it has shelves that pull out, in the freezer, unlike the "french-door" type that has a big bin, stuff won't get buried as much. It has two shelves in the upper area that can be adjusted to accommodate taller items by flipping a shelf up or pushing the other one back. The water filter is much more easily accessible for replacement, being upfront instead of way in the back..In two+ weeks we have had no issue with the ice-maker. It might be a tad slow. I use it every day with no dispensing problem. The interior lighting is very bright. The stainless finish is beautiful and cleans easily. Make sure that you measure and re-measure the dimensions of where it's going. It's a big one and might require door removal and/or some architectural adjustments. We really like ours. As I said, it's early. I'll come back with further comments if we hit any problems.

GREAT FOR MY TOP-RATED MULTI-BRAND KITCHEN

I carefully researched Consumer Reports evaluations AND consumer reports at the big-box stores to make sure I was ending up with appliances that EVERYONE agreed were outstanding. (It's amazing how many appliances get great ratings from CR but not from consumers and vice verse.) Also, I share my life with someone who eats completely differently than I do, and the design of this 4-door allows us each a half of the refrigerator and a half of the freezer, so we can each be much more organized and not need to hassle with one another's foods to find our own. You do have to be careful that both doors can open sufficiently to see what's in the fridge and also to slide open the storage drawers in the freezer. In our case, that means the front of the refrigerator can set no further back than 1.5" from the edge of the front edge of the counters on either side. Anyhow, because this refrigerator has no handles, it goes well with the other three kitchen appliances in our top-rated multi-brand ensemble. (See end of review for SKUs of other appliances.) The fridge's stainless steel does pick up fingerprints etc, but it wipes down very easily without streaks with my ss cleaner. The water dispenser aims toward the door, so no problem with splashing. The interior is bright and the shelves etc. high quality. We did have to return the first refrigerator that was delivered because the electrical system was not functioning properly, but Best Buy customer service was great about taking care of that and some other installation issues asap. It takes a day or so for the icemaker to start functioning properly, but if yours doesn't work, exchange the refrigerator for another. It's worth the trouble, and Best Buy customer service will even pay you some $$ to cover extra tips, etc. for the second delivery, if you have to go through all that inconvenience, so be sure to ask what they can do for you. The other appliances in this top-rated ensemble all have curved handles and stainless steel finishes that blend with one another and they all work great! This is a very nice looking refrigerator with lots of space, especially love being able to turn the bottom right compartment into a refrigerator. My biggest complaint is that there is not enough ice for my family of 5. It doesn't have as much ice as our old side by side and it is very slow to drop the ice compared to our old side by side (probably because it is almost out much of the time.) The plus to this is the ice is always fresh because we use the whole bin every day. We do have an RO unit (yes the pressure is fine in our RO tank) and it did seem to improve when we removed the filter in the refrigerator, but still not enough ice even after following Samsungs recommendations for resetting the ice maker. Other complaint is that it gets hand prints easily compared to our old frigidaire side by side. I wipe it down almost every time I walk in the kitchen. Part of that is that we have 3 little boys. Frigidaire's stainless didn't mark as easily. We notice it more now that there are no handles sticking out. Also, magnets do not stick to the front of the refrigerator, not good when you are used to hanging important school papers or shopping lists on the front of the refrigerator. One of the reasons we purchased this refrigerator was that it didn't have handles, making it one of the biggest refrigerators we could get because of where our refrigerator was positioned close to our dishwasher. We did have to raise our cabinets since this refrigerator is considerably taller than most. All in all, we really like our new refrigerator. The space is fantastic!

    COLD SPACE HEAVEN!

I absolutely love this frig! Except for the 2 dents my husband and son put on the front while moving it in place!!! Oh well, can't judge a book by its cover! I use the lower right flex portion to keep my milk cold!!! And the sandwich meat and cheese fresh. Luv luv luv it! I am a cooker so there are times I need to put large Dutch oven (cooking pot) in frig over night instead of transferring to smaller containers then back to pot next day and the space in top frig is perfect. The shelving on doors is a bit awkward but doable I had to just play around to see where and what would serve me best so be who you are with your frig!! Ex. My left overs go on the left side :) I wish they had offerred a white appliance but stainless is good I just can't put my grandbabies coloring pictures up, magnets don't stick to stainless. My husband loves his auto water on the door. I love that you can jack down the temp for a few hours to get the groceries cooled off quicker...live in rural area and if you make quick trip for essentials you don't want to always bring an ice chest. So, obviously I have NO complaints thus far!! Even though you can't get one that looks like mine unless your family tries to get it through the door. So, let me explain- this is a super big frig the doors extend out a bit- instructions say may have to take doors off to go through door of the home. We thought we had that covered because we actually took the doors off the HOME! And it would have worked perfectly except for the 2 metal brackets for the storm door!!! And the fact that I hollered, "STOP IT DOES NOT FIT!" and they said it did......God is good and I have a large frig that works great and keeps my food at a wonderful temp at all times.

After a lot of research and agonizing we decided to get this fridge. It's been just about a month and we're very glad we did. As we have a very large chest freezer *and* a second fridge in the basement, we've set the flex-zone compartment to the "chill" setting (30ºf). Love the flexibility, and love the size of the main refrigerator compartment. Can't say we've had occasion to complain about the size of the indoor storage on the left size--this fridge is so big it's easy enough to find space for everything. We have also not had any issues with noise--in fact, it's much quieter than our previous fridge. And since we're not huge ice people I can't tell if it's too slow with ice (as some people have noted). The only thing I'm not sure about is the filter. What I mean by this is that we don't need it--the water line comes from a reverse osmosis filter--and it's not clear from the documentation if we can just take it out. I'll also note that while the central location of the filter (right inside the fridge) would make it very convenient for those who do need it to take it in and out, it does seem to take up some space (and is probably the least attractive part of the fridge). Beyond that, no complaints. We obviously have not had it long enough to have any insight into its reliability, but we're hoping for the best. By the way, if like we were, you're intrigued by the counter depth version, make sure to measure carefully. In our case, the doors of the counter depth model would not have opened fully past the counters on either side--we'd have had to pull it out further from the wall, ending up at the same effective depth as this much larger model which was cheaper to boot!

It's been a while since I was so hyped about an appliance, but this Samsung was very much anticipated. Maybe the super fast 2 day delivery from BB added to all that! Needless to say by the time I arrived home in the morning, it was all set up, everything moved over from the not so old LG. Sleek looking, sexy as my son called it....BUT...the space was less than what I had expected. Unlike the LG with the icemaker in the door, the Samsung ice maker takes up a bulk of top shelf space that I need. The ice dispenser is very slooowwww. Big turn off as I have never had to wait on line for ice!! The water dispenser however is super quick, but that does not make up for the sluggish ice dispenser. Door shelves also a turn off as on the left side, that darned ice maker design reduces capacity greatly. The right side is definitely a step in the wrong direction from what I had. The bottom can only hold a one gallon bottle of milk and has very little room for anything else. The middle and top shelves seriously undersized The 4-door Flex option was really the most anticipated feature of this unit, replacing the bulky bottom drawer of the LG. Here was some joy finally. I am pleased with the ability to freeze or slush my bottled water on the side shelves. Organizing, finding and retrieving items made easy. Nothing negative here. All in all this fridge is good. I find the ice maker a major flaw, both in design that reduces space unnecessarily, and in function with it's very SLOW dispensing. It will be returned as the Flex doors are not enough to live with the rest of the faults

I’ve had this refrigerator for about 6 months now, so I can’t speak to its reliability long term. However, these are my current impressions. Look—It’s pretty. The black stainless steel looks really nice. It was a bit shinier than I anticipated, but I am now used to it. Maintenance—There will be fingerprints. If you can’t handle that, you may want to look elsewhere. Training yourself to only touch the silver handle area helps a lot. It is fairly easy to clean with a microfiber cloth or stainless steel wipes. Space—I LOVE the freezer area. I can fit so much, and it’s all easy to get to. This is the part that made me choose this model. Before beginning my search, I actually wished for this exact feature. The fridge area works for me but is smaller than my old model. It might be a little more crowded for larger families. Ice/Water—The water has good pressure and quickly fills my cup. The ice is slower but not annoyingly so. The ice is also well formed and doesn’t clump when water is added. I fill a cup at least every couple of hours, and I have yet to run out. Installation—I didn’t install myself, so I have no idea how easy it would be. Geek squad took care of it, and they did a great job.
