just one word...wow.
Posted .I originally purchased an LCD HDTV, a 46" RCA from Best Buy to replace a 27" Vizio in the living room. It just didn't cut it. The contrast ratio was only 5,000:1 and dark high-def movies were horrible. Granted, if you're not a movie lover it would have been a good all-around TV. So I took it back the next day and purchased this gem. It's 6" smaller, but man is it awesome. It will be primarily used for movies and gaming (PS3) so I wanted something that was both quick and had good contrast ratio. At 120 Hz and 250,000:1, it's just what I was looking for. Black backgrounds are clearly discernible, in both sunlite and dark rooms, and fast movements are extremely sharp. Best of all, the picture quality is superb and stunning! Plenty of HDMI and USB connections. The only con to this TV is audio out is limited. Since I live in a small apartment I don't have a surround sound system but I do have a Sharp 2.1 sound bar. This TV doesn't come with RCA audio out, just a stereo out and digital out, so I had to buy a stereo to RCA cable to hook up the sound bar. Other than that, there is absolutely nothing bad about this TV. If you're looking for a TV in this size range, buy this one, you won't be disappointed! Haven't tried out the internet connectivity yet...I have a HTPC running XBMC so really no need at the moment.

Excellent Price but low on Technology
Posted .I did a lot of research. The TV that I was currently using in my bedroom was a 32" Samsung LCD TV 720p. I wanted to upgrade to a bigger TV so I was looking at a 40". As always, Samsung has the best picture out of all the TVs. So I started pricing out Samsung 40" TVs. I purchased a Samsung 40" LCD TV 1080p 60hz online. At first I thought this was going to be a great upgrade from what I have been using but once I got the product home and plugged it in I was not satisfied. I recommend watching a TV in the store before you buy one online. The price was so good at $580 that I had to buy it. But I returned it the next day. My father has a 55" Samsung 1080p 120hz and the picture is amazing. So I thought that if I replaced my TV for the same one he has but a smaller screen I would be happy. Just like my fathers TV I was very happy with the picture and I got this TV for $650 which is an excellent deal. This TV is obsolete now that they have all of the LED TV's on the market and the 3D TV's. It does not come with wireless internet either And I've looked at a 1080p 240hz TVs and the picture blows away my TV. So, if you're looking for an excellent deal and you don't want to pay a much higher price for those other TVs then this is the one to buy.

One of the best LCDs on the market
Posted .Simply put, this model is the newest in a long line of successful LCDs offered from Samsung. The picture is quite stunning. The blacks are very deep and the controls allow for a good adjustment/calibration that can really bring out all the colors. It is also definitely nice having DLNA support. This is one of the first products where it actually worked quite well and had absolutely no issues streaming from my laptop, even though it runs on wifi (and it even supports MKVs, something that a lot of manufacturers don't include.) The only real cons are the "motion plus" which really might only add a benefit for sports. Otherwise it just looks unnatural. There are also no apps (not a big deal if you own a PS3 or the like). You will have to upgrade to the D650 for that. Lastly, the menu can be clunky at times. The remote also doesn't have easy access to common settings (game mode, motion plus, etc.) Overall, it's a really good purchase for me. I wanted a good looking set that didn't break the bank and this fit the bill. The picture is eye popping even without being calibrated. After calibration, it is simply a dream to watch. My last caveat- if using HDMI for a PC connection, use HDMI 1 slot for accurate 1:1 pixel mapping. If you don't have that, I recommend using the PS3 or 360 for that slot for lower input lag. Oh, and the "D"630 is the 2011 model. C is 2010, B 2009, etc.

Nice TV!
Posted .You won't regret buying this television. I bought it after returning the Panasonic S30 series 42" plasma at Best Buy which was far too dark for general use. This tv does not suffer from that problem, much to my delight. I am pretty picky about the picture of anything I watch, I'm the guy that comes over and adjusts your tv without asking. This tv did what I wanted it to, plain and simple. The viewing angles aren't as good as a plasma, and if you happen to be closer than 6 feet you can see pixelization, but that's the same with any LCD and it's what you trade off for outstanding brightness and clarity without sacrificing contrast/black levels/white balance. You have to futz a bit to get it dialed in, but the dynamic setting right out of the box will make sports and HD tv pop! Use the auto-motion feature for sports only, to avoid the "soap opera" effect on films and television. But if you know your way around a remote, this television offers outstanding control over the picture you get. So from source to source, you'll find yourself changing a thing or two to suit your needs, but it's a small price to pay for this kind of performance and the overall satisfaction you'll have with this tv. And as an added bonus I find the built-in speakers more than adequate as opposed to some other similarly priced HD tvs, the "clear voice" setting on this tv is great for watching late at night when the volume is low and you still want to hear what people are saying, and not have it overwhelmed by sound effects.

I'm picky, and I think this is a great t.v.
Posted .The picture was very good right out of the box, and it did not take long to make it great with a little calibrating (start with movie mode and tinker from there). I've had HD for several years now, and am very picky about picture quality. I took back a Sharp Aquos Quattron because I couldn't get the picture to be perfect no matter what I did. I exchanged it for this new Samsung, and am SO glad I did. My guess is that the D550 might be just as good, if the only difference is 120hz. I turned that off on this set immediately, and the picture is outstanding. The sound is not great in any mode, but that's what receivers and good speakers are for.

Outstanding TV
Posted .I bought the LN40D630 because I couldn't find another LN40D550. I have a D550 and wanted a second but couldn't get one locally. So after evaluating many 40" TVs, I realized the D630 is basically the same thing but better. The D550 is 60hz while the D630 is 120hz. The remotes are basically the same except the D630 has a 'light' button so you can see the controls in the dark. The both have the same layout, which I don't particularly care for, but the light on the D630 remote is a nice addition. And the D630 firmware is somewhat more advanced and a little better than just cosmetics. One of the best thing about these models are the available connections - 4 HDMI (one is DVI/HDMI), PC, Composite, Component, Audio in/out, Optical Audio, ethernet, etc., so you can hook up lots of stuff. I don't think there is another TV on the market with these inputs at this price. I have a Mac on one and a PC on the other. The DVI to HDMI is solid high-res video (DVI is HDMI video but without the audio - there is a PC Audio-in to go with the DVI/HDMI input). But he coolest thing in my opinion is the DLNA capability (I think Samsung calls it AllShhare). If you have DLNA / PnP software on a Mac/PC, then you can 'share' videos, pictures, and music that these Samsungs can access and PLAY! For example, I use Playback as my DLNA software on three separate Macs; one for movies/videos, one for photos, and one for music (I could do it all from one, and they don't have to be iTunes-based). Playback also gives 3 licenses for $15. I can 'rip' a DVD movie into a single movie file and place in on my 'movie' Mac. Then from either of these Samsungs I can play it - they have built-in players (pause, stop, FF, Rewind, etc.) all on the Remote. Movies from cameras, phones, just about anything and I can play it on either TV. Same with pictures and music - they see and view/play it. I have a Sony TV with the Sony Google TV Blu-Ray player that does the same thing (the Sony TV is supposed to see DLNA/PnP, but it can't see the movies for some reason - tech support no help). I love my Sony set up, but these Samsungs are great for it too. Also, I dropped cable and just get over-the-air (DTV) - but they look great! Just invest in a decent DTV antenna (mine is in the attic). Lastly, neither of these TVs are 'Smart' TVs with the apps like Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. My D550 has a Roku hooked up to it for that, and I bought a Samsung BD-E5700 Blu-Ray player that has the 'Smart' apps for my new D630 (even a Netflix button on the remote). Bottom line, I think this is the best value (3D is still very expensive). And although the D630 (and D550) do not have built-in Smart apps, it has virtually everything else. Those 'Smart' app services can be access through many other devices (Blu-Ray players, Roku, Boxee, etc. - some even have DLNA see/play features). But the DLNA capability built in to the TV is awesome. Having your movie/videos, pictures, and music accessible to a nice HDTV is cool. Bottom line, the D630 is worth the price based on features - just need to feed it content.

HD dependant
Posted .Yes it has superb picture quality but stumbles when dealing with lower quality cable below the HD range. The images become muddy and the colors are matted making it look like a french abstract painting. On the positive side, when paired with HD nothing but wow. With a Samsung blu ray the picture quality exceeds what was seen at the movie theaters. It has a quirky habit at night time of resetting the contrast as if an invisible man grabs the remote and starts playing with the shading...fortunately it only happens once or twice a night. The Best movie I seen on it was Knight and Day with Tom Cruise...It was like a thrill ride. It does get warm like a Plasma TV does. If anyone decides to use it as a computer monitor and has difficulty with the resolution...try changing the DPI scaling control setting, reset to 120 from 96 and it should look normal I also use it to watch Hulu off the computer

Q: Questionwhat did I actually buy?Is the ln40d630m3fza TV 60 Hz or 120hz? the description states 120 Hz, but the back of the Tv reads 60hz? Did I purchase a 120hz or 60 Hz TV?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer This television's display refreshes at 120 Hz, which is what we're measuring when we determine that a television is 60, 120, or 240 Hz. The 60 Hz label on the back refers to the power supply, not the refresh rate.

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between LED and LCD?
Asked by bullmoose.
- A:Answer LCD traditionally uses a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlighting system that runs across the rear internal portion of the unit to illuminate the LCD panel from behind. This lamp technology enjoys a tremendous following of enthusiasts, and translates into years of enjoyment of an affirmed, reliable and trusted technology. LED (in this application, it is also known as LCD-LED) is relatively new on the market, and uses specialized versions of the LED lights that have been used for years. It allows LCD panels to be lit either from behind (replacing the CCFLs with LEDs), or from the side using an efficient energy friendly infrastructure that emits light evenly behind the panel in order to illuminate the entire LCD panel equally, called EDGE-LED. EDGE-LED Technology has a few additional benefits in that the design of the LED panel can be slimmer than traditional LCD panels and reduces energy consumption. LED also has a few additional benefits, such as offering an accurate and natural color, as well as increased performance with black levels. LED is also free from toxic materials, such as mercury, lead or volatile organic compounds. -MrSamsung

Q: QuestionCan you decrease the refresh rate to 60 Hz if desired...or is this TV "locked" to 120 Hz?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Although the panel will always show the image at the higher Hz, in order to receive the full benefit, Auto Motion Plus and LED Motion Plus need to be activated. As long as these features are turned off, your 60Hz image should look like a normal 60hz broadcast. -MrSamsung

Q: QuestionWhat is the M3 on the 40 in modelThe 46 in version LN46D630 vs the 40 in version LN40D630M3. What is the M3 on the 40 in model? I can't find any reviews on the 40 in model.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I'm sorry for the confusion. The last few characters in the model number are used by Samsung for shipping and tracking purposes mainly and are sometimes used by retailers to better track their own inventory. Very rarely do these characters mean that the units offer different features or sizes. Basically, the model numbers without the extra characters are just the shortened version of the full model number. -MrSamsung
