Admitted, moving up from a circa 2010 Visio LCD 1080p 50" to this Samsung MU8500 55" Ultra HD 4K Curved Display is a bit like going from my last 27" CRT to that 50" 1080p Visio. Hyperbole? No. It really is that big an upgrade. Sure, if you're used to watching that old LCD 1080p TV you're probably happy enough with it. Especially if - like me - you grew up on CRT and 480i. Compared to what you were happily watching 20 years ago that 1080p LCD TV was pretty incredible after all. But when the wife and I decided it was time to upgrade the main TV and move the old 1080p Visio to the bedroom we found out that there is a world of difference between what was okay in 2010 and what's okay today. Even though our PS4 doesn't play Ultra HD Blu-rays it still played the regular Blu-ray of "Mad Max: Fury Road onto our new Samsung MU8500 55" in such rich colors, amazingly black blacks, and a resolution that was jawdropping. Almost right away I had to dig around into the Samsung's display settings to do something about the dreaded Soap Opera Effect, which was quite noticeable on this native 120hz panel. Fortunately it's fairly straightforward to eliminate that problem ( set “Auto Motion Plus Setting” to “Custom”, “Blur Reduction” to “0” and “Judder Reduction” to “0”). Then again I actually know people for who the Soap Opera Effect is a plus in their eyes (my Dad for instance). I don't understand those people but it takes all sorts to make the world go around. Playing games on the Samsung mu8500 via OUR Playstation 4 was a real treat. Even games like Grand Theft Auto 5, which are PS3 games that have been upgraded to take advantage of the PS4's better hardware, look amazing. Incredible. Breathtaking. Madden 17 looked equally fantastic and even Rock Band 4 was a real treat. Yes, you'll want to activate Game Mode when playing console games on just about any 120hz display panel, especially games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. With Game Mode active a quick ingame calibration later and Rock Band 4 never looked better. We were disappointed to find out (when we got home) that my recollection at the store about our Playstation 4's ability to play Ultra HD 4k Blu-rays was incorrect. And, shockingly, even the new Playstation 4 Pro doesn't have a Ultra HD 4k Blu-ray player. So, of course, the very next day my wife and I found ourselves the owners of a brand new shiny Xbox One S, which DOES have a Ultra HD 4k Blu-ray player. We also bought a few more new Ultra HD Blu-ray movies. Sony said the reason they didn't include their newest and best Blu-ray player in the new PS4 Pro was because people have stopped buying physical media mostly and have been buying their movies and TV shows on streaming services and the Playstation 4 Pro delivers those services perfectly well. And that had indeed been the case for our family; we'd not purchased a movie on physical media in probably 4 years. It's been all about Netflix, Hulu, YouTube. But with a TV that can display 4k and Ultra HD we find ourselves in the market for physical media again. See, Sony, the reason we've all been buying our movies off Amazon and Google Play is because they were as good as the Blu-ray discs we could buy plus they were as high quality as our old LCD TV could display. So why bother with physical media? But those streaming movies AREN'T as good as the Ultra HD Blu-rays. So now people are buying physical media again. I think it was a huge mistake for Sony to not include a Ultra HD Blu-ray player in their latest Playstation. Microsoft included one in the latest Xbox and now our family owns its first ever Xbox. There's a lesson in there for you, Sony. And it's because of the fantastic capabilities of this Samsung mu8500 TV that we were in the market for any of it. Who's going to buy a Xbox One S to get the Ultra HD Blu-ray player when they're still on an old Vizio 1080p LCD unit? No one. But as soon as we got the mu8500 home and saw how great it looked we just HAD to have an Ultra HD Blu-ray player! And, of course, Mad Max: Fury Road looked even more amazing on the Samsung mu8500 via the Ultra HD Blu-ray player in the new Xbox One S. Like, really really amazing. As in it was a religious experience, watching it. As far as the smart part of this Smart TV, it runs the very attractive and functional Tizen Operating System by a quad core processor. Apps such as YouTube and the Playstation and Xbox launchers run smoothly and the entire UI is intuitive and easy to operate. Mirroring the TV's video and audio to our Samsung smartphones is easy and great fun. Same for mirroring our Samsung phones display and audio to the TV. Both work very well and are more handy than you might think. We no longer need our Chromecast device. Not for this TV at least. We're very happy with the quality of the display, from the super black blacks and the HDR colors and the 4k resolution of details and the 120hz native panel. Additionally, Samsung's Motion Rate 240 makes motion blur and side to side motion in general look a lot better than your typical 120hz display. I just can't say enough about what a great TV this is for the money. Couple it with a decent sound bar and subwoofer (we chose the Polk Audio Signa S1 which is fantastic for under $200) and you've got a really decent home entertainment system started! And getting it at Best Buy (where we also bought the Polk Soundbar and Subwoofer as well as our new Xbox One S) was a no-brainer. Not only did we get a competitive price but when we got home and found out that the Samsung mu8500 display was cracked Best Buy swapped us out a new unit with no argument at all. Now that's customer service that really was an enormous relief to us as you can imagine how heartbroken we were to hook up our brand new shiny TV and immediately discover that it was, for all intents and purposes, dead on arrival to our home. The free Geek Squad delivery and installation for all TVs over 50" is a big relief for us as well, considering we bought a wall mount kit for the Samsung mu8500 and though connecting the Playstation 4, the Xbox One S, and the FIOS fiber optic cable TV service wasn't difficult, it's really nice to have the wall mount installed professionally and the various accessories for the TV installed and set up professionally as well. Very satisfied with our Best Buy experience. Five Stars for you!

Bought this TV through BB online & was delivered from local store. I felt BB was too expensive to pay them to unbox & do a basic set-up, so I hired my IT guy from work. Set-up was simple. I was unable to afford a soundbar at this time, so I will refer to the speaker system that came built into the TV. Starting from the first day, I would randomly hear scratching noises seemingly from the TV speakers over a period of a couple of weeks. Some days it would happen a few times & other days nothing. It would only happen when I was watching regular TV or programs I had recorded. It did not happen when using the new Samsung Blu-Ray player I had also just bought. Long story short, after 5 calls with Samsung (they were very responsive) and, upon their recommendation, changing out the new HDMI cord with another new HDMI cord (proving unnecessary), their resulting recommendation was that it was a cable box problem (in my case, Frontier-old Verizon). The Frontier repair guy came out, sat down with my Frontier remote, changed some of the audio settings which I'd had from the old TV, and everything seems to have been resolved. I have not heard the scratching noise since -- it has been 5 days now. As the repair guy said, the speakers in new TVs are so small they affect the sound. I'd read many reviews with regard to complaints about sound issues with these new TVs but now that I am experiencing it first-hand, I understand what they're saying. It seems all these manufacturers have once again found a way to coerce customers into buying just one more piece of equipment to complete the full experience. Having said that, I will now succumb to purchasing a soundbar. The picture is fabulous on this model...just like you're there in person.

The picture is truly amazing. Be forewarned, it really is like being there live and can be a little disconcerting at first until you get used to it. The PROS to this TV are to many to list, but I will mention that set-up out of the box is very fast. Even the advanced set-up which most people don't need to adjust is quick and easy. Since this screen is curved there isn't suppose to be any glare resistance, I haven't had any real problems with this at all. Some CONS I might mention include the simple fact that like most new TVs all the inputs (not including your antennae) are HDMI. This is not a problem except for hooking-up old gaming systems like a WII or PS2. To hook-up either you will need an analog to digital converter box for each (You can order these for about $10-$30 on-line, depending on where you go). You have 4 HDMI inputs but you can add an HDMI splitter so you can hook-up more things to your TV (Blu-ray, DVD, DVR, Video game consoles, Satellite receiver, etc.). Although 4 HDMI inputs may not seem like many, it is compared to the number most TVs have. I bought this TV at the Benton Harbor, Mi. store. The salespeople there are FANTASTIC. KT is the salesperson who helped me, and I can only say he is not only helpful and knowledgeable, he took the time to find out not only what I wanted but also what I needed!!! He also answered the many, many questions I had. I would not only recommend this TV, I would also recommend this store.

I bought the tv during Black Friday at $300 dollars cheaper than today’s price. I been using this TV for a week and I have watched several movies in HD and a couple in 4k thru Amazon. The picture is very clean and clear, the colors are very natural and there is not problem with light and clear room. The sound is pecfect. The TV was easy to set up. The only problem I had during the set up process,I was not getting sound thru my Marantz receiver while using the APPS installed in the TV.However it was just an mistake I made while connecting the HDMI cable between the receiver and Samsung’s single HDMI hub.The HDMI CABLE MUST BE CONNECTED AT THE ARC PORT in the receiver and the ARC PORT in Samsung hub in order to get sound thru the receiver speakers. I am giving this hint since the TV does not bring any book to indicate this information and one can end wasting a lot time trying to figure it out. I will update this review in the future in case I have any problem.

I had a Sharp aquos 4k(which lasted all of 2 years) and b4 that another samsung 1080p. When I first turned this thing on I could not believe how dark the picture was. On every picture mode it was too dark-watching a basketball game you could not see any faces. I read all of te reviews...again...and tried all of the different calibrations from the so-called experts. Honestly their recommended calibrations suck-all very similar on the dullest mode (movie) with a warm picture that just takes all of the color and brightness out. Only good advice was turning off all the eco-mode crap. Still, very dull and lifeless. I really thought I made a huge mistake and was ready to return it but visited Best Buy again and talked to a mgr there and he recommended turning the backlight up. EVERY calibration video and article has it set real low-why I have NO idea. I turned it up and as I did it i saw the picture and colors come alive-I have it all the way up and love it that way. NOW it looks bright, colorful, awesome. I a bit bothered by the fact that i do have to turn any setting all the way up to get a great picture therefore this set loses 2 stars........

First off, the sales person and sales manager were amazing. They talked to us, let us walk around and keyed in to my dilemma between what I knew and wanted and what I came for and planned to spend. Plus, they listened to my dilemma about center stand vs. two legged stand. When I asked the manager what she felt was the highest quality at the lowest price, she found the exact TV I had been eyeing but it was a not in my price range...and found it at a price that I could live with. The sales guy then took over and told us the legs were moveable, which meant the TV WOULD fit on my stand! Although my wallet was a little lighter, after getting it set up, my entire family is in awe of this wonderful TV. As wonderful as this TV is, I have to give cudos to the sales staff at the Santa Clarita Store. I think I am as impressed by them as I am the TV. CUDOS Best Buy, cudos.

While I knew I wanted a 4K TV, I was unsure which brand and/or product would be best for me. After reading reviews online and talking with various Best Buy workers, I decided on this brand and version. I have always trusted Samsung/Sony products to be made well and provide an amazing picture, and the company delivered here just as it usually does. The picture quality on this TV is amazing, both for viewing 4K and non-4K movies/tv shows. While it took me awhile to customize the settings to where I wanted them, the process was easy to learn. This TV is great for those who do not know much about 4K, and the included manual provides much of the information you need to get the best out of this TV (with the rest easily discoverable online). Additionally, I must say the smart TV function is better than any other TV I've purchased. It was so easy to use that even my 60-year-old parents, who are by no means tech savvy, could easily figure it out.

Ok first let me just say that I’m not a tech savvy person or geek so my review will not have all the terminology that goes with a typical review about an item like range, pixels etc. Now I set up the tv with my WiFi cable box etc and put it together. That wasn’t an issue. My issue is with the cheap power cord placement and lack of apps on the tv. I like the fact that the power cord is detachable but it is too short and it comes out easily. So for me it seems like and after thought. I think that there should be more cable apps i.e a&e installed on the tv in the apps page. Now I have to try and find out how can add more of these type of apps on my tv. So for these 2 reasons I’m giving this tv 4 out of 5 stars and I wouldn’t recommend it because of the power cord. That seems outrageous when you have a tv this expensive.
