I'm now a believer in big Plasma
|Posted .I went to Best Buy to look st two LED TVs I had narrowed down my search to (70" Sharp and 65" Samsung) and left buying the 64" Samsung Plasma. I'm a believer now, and also had arguably the best retail experience of my life - no kidding. The salesrep in the Attleboro MA Magnolia room (Ryan) was the most knowledgeable TV person I have ever met, and I'm a 40-year audiophile with a big-a** 7:1 home theater in my basement.. This purchase was for my family room, where ambient light is a consideration. Ryan pointed out the "hot white" backgrounds that LED TVs now employ to boost the contrast and the LED ghosting that happens on LEDs with action sequences, and that created a few doubts on my prior research. We went into the Magnolia room and I was blown away by the 8000 series picture quality, color, deep blacks, contrast ratio and no ghosting during action sequences. I was concerned about Plasma TVs having a bad 'rap' for screen reflectivity, But Ryan pointed out that the plasmas have improved here while the LEDs have had to make the screens 'shinier' to improve the contrast. Better yet, the TV has a built-in webcam, saving another $100 for a remote camera for Skype calls. It's 3-D, comes with two pairs of glasses, has a full web browser and has motion-activated / voice control. Truly a state-of-the-art machine. Now for the retail experience. This was before Christmas last year, and Best Buy had a no-questions-asked return policy through late January. So Ryan pointed out that i could return the Plasma if I found the reflectivity to be a problem and get an LED (turns out it isn't). Then Best Buy price-matched the best online sale we could find (not just the bricks-and-mortar stores), threw in free delivery and free haul-away for my old 35" brick tube TV, We have been thrilled with this TV -- we mounted it on the wall and it looks sleek, sounds great, and streams Netflix with very good quality. I give it four thumbs up!

A few teething problems, but happy now
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendDid a good bit of homework before settling on this TV. Loved the picture immediately. Sadly, the issues started shortly thereafter. The screen went blank every 10 to 30 minutes. The TV appeared to then go through a brief power cycle for about ten seconds. I tweaked a few settings, but nothing was working. I called Samsung and filed a warranty claim. It took about a week to get the TV serviced. The technician arrived and immediately swapped out my power and video boards. Unfortunately, the power board was damaged in shipping, but we tried firing it up anyway. I got one good night of use out of it and then it was completely dead the next morning. I called the tech back and he was not real helpful so I decided that I was not going to risk hanging onto the lemon.....but called Best Buy before returning as I was on day 31 given all of the issues. They honored the return which was great. The new tv was installed and it works like a dream. In sum, Best Buy gets a 5 stars for service, Samsung gets 2 stars for quality control and service and the TV gets 5 stars for performance (the second tv does anyway).

Another amazing plasma from Samsung
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendHaving owned several plasma TVs over the last few years, I can safely say that this is the best of any I have had. The blacks are inky with no crush to shadow detail, and the brightness is amazing. I originally bought the new Sony 929XBR 65 inch LCD, but returned it completely dissatisfied with the picture quality. This Samsung is a definite step-up for far less money. This TV makes all HD channels on DirecTV look brilliant, even the few that looked horrible on other TVs I have owned. HD video via Blu-Ray of other source is stunning, with a pin sharp image and super saturated color. The picture has great pop as well. Features are a joy as well. The web browser is fast thanks to the dual core processor, and netflix looks great. I have my tv hooked up through an Ethernet cord, so I can not speak to the WI-FI. This is an amazing addition to the Samsung Plasma family. I definitely recommend this TV if you are a videophile like I am, and will not settle for anything but the best picture quality.

Excellent Bang for your Buck
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAfter months of researching, I finally settled on this Samsung. I couldn't be happier! I waste about 8 hours on Sunday watching football (and sometimes I watch the Monday night and Thursday night games too) and then throughout the week I like to watch movies. I'm waiting until I hit 200 hours or so to have Geek squad come in and calibrate for my room, but I can tell the picutre quality is fantastic. You can really tell what stations broadcast in a quality HD format as well (NBC is a little weak Sunday Nights!). ESPN is as clear as I've ever seen it. Hooked up a Pioneer Blu Ray player and movies have great color contrast, black levels, and I'm just using the generic picture settings (vivid, movie, standard, etc.). This TV is mounted above my mantle and fireplace and looks like a piece of art. I was also looking at the Panasonic VT (top of line plasma by most accounts judging by CNet, consumer reports etc.) but in the store we spent about 3 hours adjusting the picture settings between the two and comparing features. This Samsung really set itself apart when we were watching baseball - the clarity of jerseys, the swing, and pitches where just plain crisper! The scrolling info bar at the bottom of ESPN was also much more crisp around the edges and the text was clearer and easier to read. This TV was about $500 less than the Panasonic and I tell you, you won't miss anything! Keep the $500 and go get a new Blu Ray player and the proper cables to hook it up and you'll be amazed and thrilled with your purchase. Oh yeah, don't plan on sticking with the built in speakers long term though. They are functional, but if you can afford it, set it up with proper speakers or a sound bar at least. Enjoy!

Impressive Plasma HDTV for the Cost.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe Samsung - 64" Class – Plasma is a great HDTV. I’m very impressed about with the 2-3D picture quality plus the viewing size of the screen and design. I had been debating whether to get a LED or Plasma TV, but based on my personal desire, I believe that the Plasma TV would perform better were I’ve decided its mounting location would be at. The HDTV has two different remote controllers, which can become confusing in choosing which one is best to be used. Some of the other functions work well, but they don’t always work flawlessly. But overall, I truly believe that my investment was worth the cost because the TV will keep me interested in all its new technology it possesses. I support Plasma HDTV over all to be the best. Best TV I Have Ever Owned
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWOW! What a great plasma tv, it has everything. I tried the Sharp Aquos Quattron but the uniformity issues were very bad, it got so bad I had to return it. I had never owned a plasma TV but after 7 out of 8 sales people told me they loved there plasma and after allot of research I bought this tv and I can say with great confidence it has the best picture of any tv I have seen. This TV makes the RD channels look really good (which is a nice extra), the HD channels are magnificent and the Blue Ray picture is out of this world. 3D quality is superb, no ghosting or cross over, we really enjoy the 3d movies and 3net programs on Direct TV. Controls are easy to use and the voice activated remote is really cool (especially when surfing the Internet). Absolutely no uniformity issues with this TV - The Best I Have Ever Seen. Every one who comes to visit is amazed by the picture this TV has (Geek Squad will calibrate my TV in April - free for Premier Silver Members - How Cool Is That). I Am SOLD On Plasma and Samsung has delivered a GREAT Product. If you are in the market for a new TV This Is The Best Out There. The Best Buy Sales People very helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Thank You Best Buy and Thank You Samsung!

Excellent TV
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendReally excellent picture quality, although the included camera has very low resolution (kind of disappointing). The Internet capabilities are also very nice. The included audio is quite poor, but since I bought a Sound Bar with it, I really don't care. However, that forced me to buy a universal remote to try to get all controls in one device. Didn't quite work, there are cable controls that the "universal" remote doesn't understand. But as far as the actual TV goes, I would recommend it to anyone.

Great TV, best I have ever bought
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI picked the plasma over the led, much faster at 600 hz, has twice the pitcure as the more expensive led which cost more, I started to buy the led until viewing the plasma in 3D by far a better TV and saved $1000.00 the led is 65" and the plasma is 64". This is my third Samsung TV and must say the best I have bought great product.

Q: QuestionPIPi just bought this tv and was told it gets PIP and I don't see where it does. Could you tell me if this TV get's a PIP? I have cable and DISH on the same TV, can I still get my PIP with my DVR with cable and DISH like I get now? I have PIP with cable and DISH, will I be able to get both on this TV also?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer This unit does actually have a 1-tuner PiP system. PiP 1-tuner systems only allow for one cable connection to be shown at a time on the screen. In order to connect it up, you will need a hard line going into the TV (cable coax) and an active secondary connection (HDMI, component, PC). To activate it up, either head into the TV's menu or click the Tools button on the remote control. Again, you will need both a coax connection and a secondary input connection in order to properly activate and view PiP on your set. If your option is grayed out, this means that one of the required connections is not active and connected properly. Q: QuestionWhich image is better for movies: Samsung plasma PN64E8000GFXZA or Samsung LED UN60ES8000FXZA?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Although both TVs would offer excellent movie playback performance, I would have to say that it is up to you to decide which one would be a batter fit for your lifestyle (or how you like to view movies). Plasma and LED both provide excellent HD picture, offer stunning arrays of colors, and of course, Samsung’s exclusive technologies which allow you to get the most out of either panel. Samsung LED Televisions use LEDs for its backlighting unit. In the Case of the ES8000, they are arranged in an Edge-Lit Array. LED TVs will historically offer higher contrast ratios and offer lower operating costs. Plasma Televisions operate using a combination of gas and glass to illuminate the individual pixels, or light sections, within the screen. Plasma TVs will offer a faster response time and display deeper blacks. Samsung LED TVs offer a great picture without image-retention and smooth image motion using the Auto Motion Plus processing. Plasma Televisions offer faster response times, as well as appeals to customers replacing a tube television with a glass screen they are familiar and comfortable with. And, due to advances in technology, both Plasma and LED TVs can work well even in the brightest rooms. -MrSamsung
