Excellent picture and smart controls

Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought the 65" size of this TV after looking at the TCL 65R615/617, LG Nano 8 and 9, Vizio Quantum M and P series TV's. We decided to put our old TV (which was a 55" Samsung LCD into a bonus room upstairs for the kids and needed a new family room TV. With the new TV downstairs I also decided that I wanted a sound bar (instead of a hifi reciever driven surround sound system) bc the sound bars are great technology, it would simplify our speaker layout in the family room and it would offer us 1 remote control to use for the entire viewing experience. Regarding the TCL, LG Nano and Vizio TVs I made some observations which lead me to choose the Samsung. The TCL is the second highest rated TV on many online reviews for both picture quality and Operating System and sells for less than $1000, it also has the ROKU Operating System (which is supposed to be great). I ultimately did not choose the TCL becuase there were numerous reported quality issues with the actual LCD panel and I could not see a decent video/TV show/movie playing on it in the store. The Vizio looked great but the majority of its Operating System is run through one's phone, there were report of the Operating System being slow too and I wasn't wild about that, plus their app store is smaller. Plus side to the Vizio is with their OS you don't get ads but the ads you get on the samsung are limited to one recommendation on the home screen so its not a bother. I really liked the LG Nano 8 but the Nano 9 is the entry level series with local dimming (Nano 9 is noticeably brighter than the Nano 8 too) so the LG Nano 8 was crossed off my list and then finally the majority of reviews online said the Nano 9 was not so great for watching movies. We don't always watch movies but we do watch in the day time and in a darker room at night so that pushed me to the Samsung even though I really thought the Operating System of the Nano 9 which seemed to be more smooth thans Samsung (though some don't like the LG OS as well). So I looked at the Samsung Q60, Q70 and Q80. Samsung Q80 - I looked at the Q60, Q70 and Q80. The black levels on the Q80 were noticeably better than the Q60 or Q70 because the Q80 has a 3 layer glossy screen and the glare reduction of the Q80 was far superior (bc of the 3 layers). Also the Q60 does not have local dimming. I chose the 65" to be larger than my old 55" but to me the 75" would be just too big for my wall ( 12'-6" x 9' ) and for my viewing position ( 15' ) away. The picture is GREAT, clear bright crisp, seems to upscale well and has super deep blacks. The viewing angle is great for our room. it does movies and TV shows great. I have noticed some motion effects associated with the local dimming like when a home run baseball is hit and arcs through the screen but only once. I have not noticed any Judder or Stutter on wide panning effects in landscape type overview panning scenes in movies or TV shows. I have the TV connected to a Samsung Q70R sound bar with remote subwoofer (HDMI arc port), a DVD blue ray player, and the AT&T uverse cable box. I also subscribe to Netflix, and Amazon prime which gives access to Amazon prime music also. Pros: PICTURE great quality, deep blacks, great motion, crisp details Great black uniformity (no bleed through). Awesome glare reduction. Easy set up, though to get AT&T uverse to work with the remote I did have to go into manual set up mode and search for my set top box. Customizable home screen for apps. App store with many choices APPLE Air Play 2 onboard and ready to go ONE Remote for cable, sound bar, Amazon Simple Remote (the remote has just the layout) Great phone app to control the TV when my kids loose the remote! Ambient mode - place family photos on the TV or have images of artwork or landscapes on the TV when its not in use. Responsive Operating System. Built in internet search engine Voice control seems to work OK but im still getting the hang of it. Remote fits nicely in my hand. Cons: TV has a single Advertisement on its home screen. Remote control doesn't have a number pad which some might prefer. Sometimes the sound mode seems to change modes seems to change at random. Some characteristics of the ROKU operating system are better Remote might have limited range in a larger room than mine. I wish there was some sort of overview or training app to walk through all the functionality of the TV. But one can find enough reviews online to do this. Price - it is the most expensive TV that I looked at. If I wanted to save money the Samsung Q70 would have been my second choice and I might not have noticed the lack of black level and less glare reduction that it offered after getting it home. Samsung does want you to set up an "account" and so for those concerned about "big brother" monitoring your tv viewing choices this could be a concern. Remote might feel slippery or too small for medium to large handed people (my ring size is a 10 I think for reference). I have owned this for 2 weeks. Im not an AV specialist or into spending alot on this stuff and the last time I bought a TV it was because my rear projection TV died in 2008. this will be the second TV in my house.

Great TV, especially for bright rooms
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought a new house and it needed a bigger TV. My living room is very bright during daylight hours, so I was trying to find something that reduced glare. I originally bought a 65” LG OLED. I had to take back because it was way too reflective. I couldn’t be happier with the Q80 in the same situation. I can keep the blinds open and watch without issue. (Note that the Q80 is the lowest series with the anti-glare engineering from Samsung). The two photos both show the LG when mounted. The Q80 is on the floor in the second one to show the comparison. It is literally night and day. You can’t even see me taking the picture in the reflection of the Q80.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I sat in front of the TV viewing wall in Best Buy. and kept on coming back to this one. Once I got it home, I took my old TV off the wall, and was very happy to find out that my TV mount fit this one, once it was up and running....HOLY CATFISH! I see things I never saw before on the shows that I watch...WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

Samsung QLED Q80R Simply Stunning
Posted .The Samsung 2019 QLED Q80R is fantastic. It includes all the features one would expect from a Smart TV. Surprisingly, it took barely 5 minutes to unbox and program the TV. Samsung truly designed this TV to look minimal and modern. Grooves that run along the back hide and hold cords as do slide-in hollow feet. The clear and crisp 4K screen is encased in a sturdy metal body that almost perfectly matches Apple's Steel Grey products. The US version of the Q80R is not compatible with the Samsung No Gap Wall Mount. The current Samsung Mini Mount WMN550 model only comes with instructions for 2015-2017 models. We had a lot of figuring out to do ourselves. Once mounted, the Samsung QLED Q80R is simply stunning. The technology includes; adaptive brightness, adaptive sound, Ultra Black Elite anti-reflection technology and ample voice-control options. The panels deliver ultra-wide viewing angles so colors are consistent at any viewing angle. Blooming is negligible. While Voice Assistant Bixby can be useful. It is distracting. I would prefer an iPad to push content through the Apple App and Airplay2 when available, ditching the SmartThings App altogether. Ambient Mode is welcome as background decor. This includes weather, news and some lively nature scenes. Moving wallpapers would be a welcome addition. This model does away with the bulky OneConnect Box. The OneRemote communicates with the TV via RF signal for you to be able to control the TV from anywhere in the room. However, it communicates with cable boxes through an IR signal. OneRemote does not have full functionality for cable boxes. There is no outlet for an IR Extender. With handy Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime dedicated buttons on OneRemote and future Apple APP integration, many users may opt to do away with cable altogether. Overall this TV is an amazing product. It's design, functionality and quality of viewing is simply outstanding It is an upscale model which includes many modern features at a reasonable price point. It exceeds our expectations.

Almost as good as plasma

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This is a great TV. You won't be disappointed. I didn't think I'd ever buy an LCD TV again, after enjoying the absolute black levels and viewing angles of my Panasonic plasma. However, after researching online (see: rtings.com), and seeing the TV in person, I verified that the Q80 is great in both regards.

CRAZY quality
Posted .I mean, come on… this TV is ridiculously great. For starters, this TV was WAY easy to set up. We had a wall bracket already in place, so apart from a moment of heavy lifting, installing the TV was as easy as putting it down and screwing it in. Setup was super simple - we were able to connect the TV to our wifi and then synced up all our relevant apps with the OneRemote within minutes. We then tinkered around with the SmartThings app and Ambient Mode… it’s pretty neat to have a TV that doubles as a wall art-fixture. I’m not a fan of big black boxes on the wall, so it was great to easily create an ambient background that matches the lighting of the wall behind. It’s one of those “why has no one ever thought of this before?” features… Ok, so let’s get to the picture quality: it’s insane. Quantum Processor 4K is crazy sharp. I’ve watched Planet Earth for HOURS since getting this TV. My roommate’s also commented that the picture quality has made gaming way better because he can make out what’s going on in the screen with way more clarity. And the Quantum Dot colors are crazy. I didn’t know we could make colors like that appear on a screen… I’ll also make a plug for the Ultra Viewing Angle - we’ve got a HUGE window in our living room, and it often washes out the picture. Not so with this TV. The picture is as sharp and colorful as ever, regardless of the room lighting. So my answer is “yes,” if you have the money to drop… the Q80R QLED is a great buy.

Loving our Samsung QLED 80 65” tv
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Thank goodness I spoke to my son before purchasing our new tv as he is extremely knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction. We spent more than originally anticipated but like he said you will thank me after and believe me I did. He said if your buying a 4K get one with the highest WCG (wide color gamut) that it comes in so we did and we couldn’t be happier I didn’t even know what that meant until he explained it to me. Also the model we got works well in all light conditions a huge plus even with curtains opened on a sunny day you can see the tv the same as in a darker room a huge plus and worth the extra bucks. Bottom line do research before buying a tv of course we could of gotten that 10K model like my son had there is always bigger and better but this is perfect for us. We also bought the compatible sound bar for ease of set u and the sound is better than my previously owned Bose system.. Samsung makes make great products you can’t go wrong:) Happy customers

Great picture

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Great picture. The only thing I would gripe about is on certain channels even in HD, the picture is hit or miss. But in 4K it’s amazing. Great blacks, great whites, brightness and contrast is great and no dirty scree affect or blooming. I almost picked up the Q90R but made a good choice. I had the Q70R and exchanged it for this one as the Anti-Reflection coating and wide angle viewing make it a no brainer to spend the extra $$ especially with the sale right now.

Q: QuestionHow is this model superior to the Q-7 or Q-8?
Asked by JoeC.
- A:Answer The 2019 Samsung Q80 is superior to the 2018 Q8/Q7 in a number of ways: 1) The 2019 Q80’s Direct Backlight/Full Array Panel has twice the number of LED zones, compared to the 2018 Q8. The 2018 Q7 was an Edge Lit LED panel, so both the 2018 Q8 and 2019 Q80 are superior in contrast, black level, and overall picture quality. 2) The 2019 Q80’s “Quantum Processor” has been upgraded and now includes Machine Learning Super Resolution (AI Upscaling). It will be able to upscale non-4K content better than the 2018 QLED lineup. 3) The 2019 Q80 also receives an upgrade to its HDMI ports—which are now HDMI 2.1. This means that the TV will be able to support 120 frames per second (FPS) on 4K/UHD content, as well as 1080P. The HDMI ports on the 2018 models were HDMI 2.0, and only supported 60 FPS for 4K/UHD content. The 2018 models supported 120 FPS for 1080P and below, but not 4K UHD content. 4). The 2019 Q80 supports Virtually Assistant Voice Control by Google Home and/or Amazon’s Alexa. 5). The 2019 Q80 also has Apple’s Airplay 2 built-in, therefore giving Apple device users the ability to cast and mirror compatible iOS/MacOS video/picture/music content, without the need for an Apple TV device Additionally, the 2019 Q80 will have iTunes Movie and Television apps available in the Samsung Smart Hub (again, without the need for an Apple TV device). It’s been reported that the 2018 Models will receive a firmware/software update in 2019, which will include the iTunes Movie/TV apps and Virtual Assistant voice-control compatibility. Lastly, there are other improvements to the 2019 lineup, but the ones I listed above are the big changes/upgrades to the model/models.

Q: QuestionI recently bought my tv they set it up but now I’m noticing the picture is grainy and pixelated. How do I fix the picture? I want it to look like the clear pic from the store display.
Asked by Jae.
- A:Answer You have to have a 4K or HDR signal to the TV. What ever you are trying to watch or stream must have that quality. The store images are super high quality and calibrated specifically for the tv. It’s a sales tactic.

Q: QuestionDo I need to remove the clear protective film that comes on the screen, or I can just leave it there since i m planning to relocate soon.
Asked by Alan.
- A:Answer I still have the film on mine since haven't had TV very long. Should be able to wait until after relocated to decide on removing it. It makes dusting the screen easy. Don't use any cleaning chemicals on screen with or without the protective film.
Answered by SgtPepper
Q: QuestionIs there a screen protector that I'm supposed to remove? There is a lot of reflection/glare. This is supposed to be less glare tv.
Asked by Bigcat.
- A:Answer Yes there is a screen protector. After you take off the protective strips on the left and right there are pull tabs on the top corners to remove the film.

Q: QuestionHow is the Q-80 for gaming [ lag time ] and also the upgrading of HDR ?
Asked by andynoburnin.
- A:Answer I use it for my ps4 and ive had my gaming pc on it a few times for some couch gaming time. It has freesync and a high refresh rate plus it does native 4k and the upscaler is good if it is needed. Game mode drops lag down a little more than standard but I'd say an OLED is probably a little quicker. Overall ive had a good experience gaming on this and if you are using any console the freesync and hdr features are a nice bonus for better picture and frame times.
