Samsung 4600 Blueray DVD Player
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendSpent 2 much time trying to fix playback with an older Hitachi projection TV with DVI but it's not the players issue, it was my older RCA HDMI to DVI cable was not at spec.Once I got a Phillips DVI to HDMI cable the player worked as expected. The Pandora feature is more than I expected with a huge music choice which you can access right on your TV. The Netflix feature is yet to be tested as I debating to join or not, although I will try it as it comes with a free trial. I have a Netgear G 108mb router and I probably will need to uograde to a N as at times when streaming music with Pandora it looses connection. I would try going to an N before adventuring into streaming Netflix movies. The navigation form your PC's picture folder is not very good as you can't go back and forth to your My Pictures folder unless you exit to the root directory and come back in to see more pictures. I noticed that i't only does this with Photos only, all other options like music, videos etc, act normally while navigating.I played so far Dark Knight and Hanncock. Both played well. In order to access the BD Live feature I had to go into stup and change settings to allow any certificates, otherwise the feature didnt work and frooze. One thing lacking is the component video oututs which the 3600 has. I'm testing it right now and see a slight difference berween my oder LG and Panasonic uograde DVD players. I believe that the only way to really see the difference would be to upgrade to a 1080P TV as I only can go to 1080I at this point with my sets...To me what won me over is the wireless streaming and the ability to look at your files wirelessly... Hope this helps to make your desicion and remember the 3600 has all the same features plus component video.... the 4600 is wall mountable and the fine TOC look of the 4600....it's a fine piece of art this Blueray player !!! Great Blueraying Out There !!!

Beautiful Paper Weight
Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friendAppearance This is a beautiful blu-ray player. Certainly worthy as a center piece in any Home Entertainment System. The pictures on this website don't do it justice. Design I love the design. I love that there is no slide out tray that can get broken or jammed. The discs just slide into a slot in the side that seats the disc automatically. I love that it comes with a wall mount. The touch panel controls light up and are easy to identify. (Wish my Samsung TV touch panel controls lit up) Control I have not had to read the instructions for this device to operate it. Everything works as expected. If you are familiar with DVD players you will be able to use this no problem. I was able to connect it to my wireless network easily using the included wireless USB card. Shipping I have a small complaint about how it is packaged. This is an electronic device. It should be wrapped in an anti-static bag to avoid static electricity damage during shipping. Instead it is wrapped in a styrofoam bag. I experienced several electrostatic discharges during unpackaging. I am a little worried that I have a damaged unit because of the static discharges that could have occurred during shipping. After seeing how many people have issues varying issues with this player, I can't help but wonder if electrostatic discharge isn't a big factor. Performance This is my first Blu-Ray experience, so I don't have any frame of reference. But I have to say this is one of the worst performing media players I have ever owned. It hardly plays a DVD. Which the DVD upconvert was a big selling feature for me to make the switch to blu-ray. But out of the 5 DVD's I have tried, only one has played all the way through. They just get real choppy and slow with artifacts on the screen until the movie grinds to a halt. These DVD's play no problem in my computer, XBox 360, or current DVD player. I actually consoled myself that the DVD issues would be acceptable because blu-ray movies are SO much nicer than the DVDs that I have decided to upgrade my entire library. But out of the 5 Blu-ray movies that I have attempted to watch 2 have had issues. One was with Monsters Inc. While watching it the blu-ray player froze for about 10 seconds, then played through it. Not a big deal. The other one was Monsters vs Aliens. It will not play a particular part of the movie. I have to go to the scene selection and choose a scene after the bad scene in order to continue watching the movie. I am going to try to confirm that I do not have a defective disc by renting this movie and seeing if it plays all the way through. But given the issues with DVDs and prior Blu-ray disc I am skeptical. This leads me to wonder again if I do not have a defective player. But seeing how another person on here complains about similar issues, I am left wondering if this isn't an issue with the firmware. I am really hoping that a firmware update will come out that will fix all of the performance problems because I really do LOVE this player!

Impressive
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis is my first blu ray player and I did have some issues setting up the wifi connection, but I think that's mainly because the manual isn't too clear about how to exactly set it up. So with some trial and error I finally got it to work. Then I had to do a firmware update, but unfortunately I had to REDO my wifi setup so that was a bummer. But since I was a pro at setting up the wifi then it only took a few minutes. Once I got everything all set up though I was impressed by the options that are available. Netflix is so amazing to use and Pandora is unbelievable. YouTube is cool as well. It was easy to access them and add my accounts to all of them. It doesn't take long to stream Netflix movies, takes about 30 seconds or less to get them started and didn't have any interruptions during the movies. In order to add movies to your Netflix you have to do it through your Netflix account online. Playing Blu Rays/DVDs is a total breeze. I like the "touch" buttons on the top of the device. It has a very cool design. But you definitely need to consider WHERE you're placing it. You have to insert the discs on the right side of the device AND you have an inch to inch and a half wireless adapter to the left of it. It didn't end up fitting in the TV cabinet, so I just ended up putting it on top. It also does come with a wall mount so that's another option. Overall I do love this product. The picture quality is excellent. I know the menus aren't great, but they're not horrible just play around with it and in no time it's easy to find your way around. There are some really bad reviews on it, but I was hoping it was just those devices that had those issues and that seems to be the case. I haven't had any issues so far *crosses fingers* but I would buy the Best Buy protection just because this is a pricey gadget and $30 is definitely worth the peace of mind once the warranty is over.

Good Player
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this item for blu-ray quality but came to find out that my Plasma TV is little older and I won't get the picture quality. I upgraded my TV to Samsung LCD + better HDMI cable and the picture quality is amazing. I noticed that non-HD channels are actually little worse but vice-versa with HD channels. Blockbuster and YouTube streaming is also available if you run a network upgrade in the settings of the player. I don’t have room on my shelf so the wall mount came in handy and it looks great (wires ran through the wall). Player has easy to navigate menu and acceptable in speed. Pandora streaming is great and it has a screen saver so it won’t burn in the image. Like the second USB port for flash drive picture viewing experience although my TV has multiple USB ports but hard to reach when mounted on the wall. I'm using DSL + Buffalo Turbo G upgraded router with this player and the steaming videos (even blu-ray quality) never froze or hang. This will also depend on your provider network speed. I usually takes less than a minute to load streaming video. The upconvert function with regular dvd’s don’t really fix the picture, as always. I haven’t tried to sync up the player to my PC yet. I think that this player little overpriced.

Fine player -- for dvd and bluRay. Wifi so-so.
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe body looks great, love all the black on black. Works like a charm for dvd and blu-ray disk. That's expected. I connected the WiFi - that went well. Did the firmware upgrade, no problems there. It found my PC's share drive -- everything going well! Can play MP3, check. Can play most PC formats fairly well, but behavior is a little odd. If I press rewind goes to start of movie! If I FF to 2x speed all is well, but when I try to go to 4x speed it goes to start of movie again. This with MPEG4 content. If I pause for more than 60 seconds -- start of movie. Arg. I wondered if my WiFi was the problem, so connected it directly to the LAN. Same behavior. I dorked about with it for a while, then just decided it was a lot easier to connect my laptop to the TV with an HDMI output cable (my Dell m2400 happens to have a HDMI friendly 'Display Port') and watch online content that way. Now I'm wondering why I spent the extra money for the WiFi in the Blu-ray player, the laptop is far better behaved. On the other hand, my laptop doesn't have a remote, so its not all cake. Maybe Samsung will improve the streaming behavior with a firmware upgrade, we can hope!

Slick! Compatible with Samsung TV, Smooth Internet
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI really like this Blu Ray player. It is very compatible with my Samsung model 640 LCD TV. When I turn the TV on and select the HDMI Blu Ray device it automatically turns on the Blu Ray player and gives me full menu access. One minor flaw is if there is a DVD in the player it automatically wants to play the DVD. So you have to wait a moment to stop the DVD to get back to your Netflix and Pandora menu options. The menu navigation is fluid and setup is easy. I connected to my wireless network and was streaming Pandora and Netflix through my surround and HD system in grand fashion. I used the tilted stand with my player and have it sitting on the bottom shelf of my AV cabinet. The remote works well through the TV. Yes - if you don't have a good remote angle, it will transmit with ease through your Samsung TV. When you switch off the Blu Ray player from the TV to switch to TV viewing, it automatically turns off the Blu Ray. If you have a Samsung TV and wireless network, get this 4600 Blu Ray player. It's not too hard to move the box to slide in a DVD too.

Cool player with some bugs
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendGot this player for Christmas and hooked it up that night. This is my first BD player and the picture is great. Hooking it up wirelessly through my router ended up being a task. At first the player would connect but I kept receiving cannot connect at this time message with netflix and pandora. I never had a problem with Xbox 360 or laptop in the same room but I decided to move the modem and router closer. After resetting everything, the player finally connected and allowed to use netflix and pandora, along with youtube (won't use blockbuster). Bottom line is this: make sure your home network is set up correctly and close enough to receive at least three bars on player. I was about to return it when I finally got it to work. If you are electronically challenged, especially with networking like me, either get someone to do it for you or get something else. My frustration level reached about 9.5.

All in all, I love it
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've had this player for a few months and my overall experience has been great. When I bought the player we had a Samsung 42" DLP (720) and the only trouble was it took a little time with the wireless setup. It wasn't the player's fault, however, it was me having to figure what code the player wanted. Once online, we haven't had any trouble and we use the streaming Pandora all time time. Over the weekend we bought a 40" Samsung LCD (1080) and immediately noticed a difference in the picture quality over watching BD movies on the 720 tv. WOW! We watched The Last Samurai last night with our jaws no the floor. Unreal. My two gripes are the remote and the design. Let me clarify the latter first. We currently have an entertainment center and I knew we would have difficulty finding a place for this player. We did and it looks ok. I could have easily bought the 3600 and solved that problem but we are considering a move and will mount our tv and this player when we do. So, this is only a short-term problem. I really wish the remote could light up. My cable remote lights up and it is amazing how reliant we have become to that. We have actually been illuminating the light on our cable remote to use as a flashlight to see this remote. It won't be long, however, before I have the buttons memorized. The net? I love this thing!
Q: QuestionNetflix compatability? Will this allow me to play Netflix movies through my big screen TV and not the computer?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes it will. You just have to configure it to your netflix account. Streaming netflix is excellent. I have all the South Park Season's up 9 on my instant Q. You also get all the hereo's episodes in HD. It also streams Pandora Radio. Pandora rocks! I have the Samsung BD-P1600 but I am about to return it to get the BD-P4600. The 1600 took 30 minutes to load "My Bloody Valentine in 3D." That is too long to load for any type of video player.

Q: QuestionWhat makes one BlueRay player better from another? What would be something I would look for in searching for a blue ray player? What would make me want to choose one over any others that I can find? With Tv's you look for p/i, Htz, and quality. But what would be something that one would expect out of a blue ray player to ensure a true quality Blue Ray player?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer For the most part all Blu-Ray players are the same with some slight variations. Basically what to look for depends on what you want to do with the system. If you just want to watch BD/DVD, any system will do; but my personal recommendation is to go with a known good brand like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, etc. If you plan to use your Blu-Ray player for Data-CD's or DVD's, look for something that supports the file format of your choice (WMA, MPEG, DivX, etc). If you don't plan to use an HDMI cable (maybe your TV doesn't have HDMI) look for a player that has A/V ports that you can use with your TV.

Q: QuestionNetgear router causing connetion issue? My Netgear router signal light is blinking instead of staying on solid, and the signal varies from low to poor to fair..back and forth. I've contacted Netgear and they changed several settings to no avail. Could my router be going bad and that is why I can't connect with the BDP4600 for Netflix? I've set up a appointment with Geek Squad and just to be on the safe side got another router just in case it is a bad router that I have. I've only had this one for a year.

Q: QuestionCan unit support ext hard drive and media?I have pictures, music and videos on a 2TB ext hard drive. Some units don't support ext hard drives at all while others support hard drives but will display only pictures and music but not movies and videos.
Asked by Marine.
- A:Answer As a matter of fact, if your HDD is connected to the BD-P4600 via USB, and is formatted in a FAT or NTSF file system, you should be able to view your photos, MP3s and videos (Divx only) on the BD system. -MrSamsung

Q: QuestionSay's can't connect to internet..firewall issue?I purchased BDP4600 and it say's it can't find a shared PC and network can't work properly. I already have a Netgear wireless router, but it say's weak signal. We have DSL. Is it a firewall issue that's keeping me from making a connection for streaming movies ? This is driving us nuts to the point of returning it!
Asked by Kat.
- A:Answer I'm sorry you are having an issue with your unit. I would suggest turning off firewall protection momentarily on your router and PC in order to see if this alleviates the issue. Also make sure that your router is not being obstructed by any thick walls, metal plates or water pipes, since these objects can cause signal blockage. If this does not solve your issue, please contact your local Best Buy's Geek Squad for more assistance. -MrSamsung
