Samsung - Gear VR for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Cell Phones

This is an awesome product, fit and finish is top notch! The optics are stellar. The field of view is a bit narrow but you won't notice it much in most uses. Depending on the title you're viewing you might see a bit of screen door effect, but this is expected at this resolution of the Note 4. It would be nice if there was an active anti fog mechanism but I've only had a severe fogging issue once, when I was laying down. I usually use a blue tooth controller, so at times I can have a hard time finding the touch pad or the back button. The gyroscopic sensors and accelerometers are also amazing. The processing speed is 10x what is usually found in the phone. Some apps are better than others for motion control but the ones that are optimized are so good you couldn't tell you the difference. I use over the ear clip on ear buds, for audio, but had previously used large headphones. I found the side straps slightly cover my ears, so you can either move them up or deal with them over your ear. If you have head phones where the pin end bends at 90* you might have to fiddle with the end of the cord if you want to have the front protective cover on. I usually don't use the front cover. This isn't a problem if you have a head phone pin that goes straight out. If you adjust the overhead strap properly the weight is almost non existent. The foam pads included make for a very soft surface on your face. There is a replacement face pad included should something happen to the original. Packaging is extremely nice. The included travel case has a partition for carrying a controller to prevent it from scratching your GearVR, and an extra pouch in the lid for SD cards, cords etc. It also has the GearVR logo embossed on the top and definitely has a quality feel to it. The included app by Oculus is definitely the best VR app for android. It has many top notch programs, videos, and tools that make the VR experience something else all together. When downloading the apps pay attention to the right side. In the description it will state "Comfortable for some" or "Comfortable for most" Generally the apps that are "Comfortable for most" are the best to start with. I have spent hours uninterrupted in a game like DarkNet while others can make me ill after 5 minutes. In addition to the Oculus App you can download Google Cardboard as well as the Durovis Dive App, these include many other apps not in the Oculus launch panel. Some are good some not so much. Chair in a Room is a REALLY scary interactive Horror app and has superior head tracking. To start any VR Program with out entering the Oculus Launcher you need to pull up the MicroUSB pin on the GearVR sort of pulling it out of the way, launch your app then insert your GearVR normally (other than plugging the phone into the plug) . You can also watch 3d Youtube videos using the basic Android Youtube video app however while the 3d effect still works it is very close to your face and the lack of being able to "look away" like in the Cinema app can be too disorienting for some users. You can also use 3rd party programs in conjunction with your PC to stream to the headset in 3D, some are better than others but almost all of them have a demo version so try them all and see what works best for you! All in all this is a super fantastic product, with more and more apps coming out almost daily. The GearVR is the King of the Mobile Phone VR. The Head Tracking Optics and general fit and finish definitely make it worth the investment. 5 stars!

This is a must have accessory if you are looking to obtain the Galaxy Note 4 and offers a good reason to pick the Note 4 if you are on the fence as to which phone to purchase. The experience of the Samsung Gear VR is rather indescribable and must be tried out in person. There is plenty of demo content included with the headset to keep you entertained as well as a plethora of downloadable content. The only caveat is that the platform is hardware limited due to it running from the phone. If you are a PC gamer wanting the VR experience, my advice would be to look at the the Oculus Rift DK2 and soon to be released DK3.

For those have a note 4 and am a nerd like me, this is the best accessory to add to your collection. As an innovator, it does everything I read up and more! Yes, it isn't in full 1080 HD quality but you don't expect first edition to have everything you want. It follows me very well majority of the time when I tilt, turn, look up and down but you do need a fan in front of your face if you don't want it to fog up. I bought this anti fog drip and it still fogs when you start to perspire. Though I also do wish that the first generation have a outside USB plug to allow continuous play, I think it's a good thing it doesn't because you won't want to get out once you're in your little world. hahaha. I love it and will continue to show it off to my friends!

At first I was skeptical about the Gear VR, later a friend who purchased it on launch day let me used it for a bit and I confirmed how ugly it looks, I noticed way too much pixels. Later on he lend it to me for two weeks and the more I used the Gear VR, the more I got hooked on it. The pixels are really not that bad once you get the hang of it and once you find the correct focus for your eyes. I found that there is a sweet spot on the focus adjustment for each person, not too sharp, not too blurry. Now I barely notice the pixels and now I focus my attention to the whole experience. I have tried every piece of content available on the Oculus/Samsung stores and there are really impressive stuff, from games to 360 videos and photos. As of right now, my favorite Oculus games are Herobound (incredible graphics and great gameplay) and Temple Run VR and my favorite science apps are Titans of Space (it makes me realize how tiny as humans really are), Ocean Rift and TheBluVR amongst others. The great thing is that you can use The Gear VR with Google Cardboard apps too (you need to disable some Oculus services or mount the phone with the connector extended, that is not connected), so the available content increases drastically. However the best experience resides on the Oculus ecosystem due to the internal sensors on the Gear VR which makes the head tracking much more pleasant and natural, but still Cardboard apps are fun to use. I highly recommend using a bluetooth gamepad, I use a Nyko pad, cheap and small enough to carry it on the same Gear VR protective case. I really recommend any Note 4 user to get one of this gems. Fortunately for me, my friend had to let go of his Note 4 and I got his Gear VR, now I can't wait to use them every time!

This device is great as long as you know what to expect going into your purchase. At times it can be a little blurry although the focus wheel is very helpful, and there is a noticeable screen door effect, but in my opinion these things are completely overshadowed by the great immersive experiences it provides that are like nothing I have seen before. The fact that it is completely wireless provides an advantage over its pc counterpart. Very portable. It does have some issues with the phone overheating while running intensive games for more than about 30 minutes however you can leave the battery cover off of your phone while using it and if necessary point a fan right at your face. It may sound a little silly, but it allows you to play until your battery dies without overheating. The overheating problem only exhibits itself while gaming and not in any of the other experiences in my time with it. Everyone I have showed this to wants one for themselves and if you have a Note 4 you owe it to yourself to get this peripheral it is as simple as that. With the paid app store being released just a few days prior to this review there should be a surge of incoming content for it as well. It can provide so many amazing experiences it is hard to describe them all in a short review. Just buy it you will wish you had sooner!

the first (almost consumer) VR headset has some downfalls, but I still recommend it to anybody who wants a jump on the future of gaming and social media. Pros: A) 1st Mobile VR Headset that is actually available for purchase and has some content to chew on. B) Very excited for the possibilities. C) Surprisingly immersive. You wouldn't think a cell phone could have good enough graphics to make you feel like you are there, but its really all about the programming, and working within the processing limits of the Note 4. Put on some good headphones and you will see what i mean. D) within a few minutes of playing some games, i couldn't help but smile. I remember taking off the headset, looking at my Xbox One and PS4 setting next to my Flat big screen TV, and saying out loud "your all doomed, VR is going to change everything..." (though I'm hearing the PS4 VR headset might come out this year). E) Fun to use on the exercise bike. Temple Run gets me kinda dizzy, but watching hiking or biking videos is a good way to stay motivated to keep exercising, or exercise harder. I can think of some very good ideas for taking this to the gym (though due to the dangers of falling off equipment, AR glasses might be better for that setting) Gaming, and VR Movies will be here in 2016. "Good" consumer accessible VR Cameras with 3d Audio will be available by the end of the year. boring old GoPro cameras will be a thing of the past if they dont adapt quickly. Cons: A) No streaming movies (Netflix, Amazon) yet in the Virtual Cinima. B) Not a ton of content, but the store just opened up and more games were added. C) A YouTube app for 360 degree videos needs to come out FAST to take advantage of the content coming. D) Locked to the Oculus Store for apps, would like the option to switch to "Manual" mode or something so we can use Google Cardboard apps, or even use the phone as an external display for other devices to display VR Content (PC, Xbox etc). Though not sure if wireless display would have too much latency and get you sick... /ponder E) Price: does seem to be kind of expensive just for some glass goggles, touch pad, and motion sensor. But... it is pretty fun. F) Screen door effect. Even with the resolution being so high, your so close to the screen that you see the individual pixels. Games that use large, single color objects help, but anything with lots of different colors or edges makes you really notice the pixels. G) They tend to fog up while exercising. Have to constantly wipe them off. Sweat is an issue. I bought some covers that help keep the foam from getting nasty. If you have a Note 4, i say get it. Else maybe wait for the G6 and then get the VR headset made for that. The better pixel density might help negate the screen door effect some. I know i listed more Con's than pros, but really, im glad I bought it, and hope more people do to. This is a glimpse into the future. Pretty soon you'll be able to set down a 360 degree camera in your living room, and have someone visit you virtually over the internet. They can look around and see and hear (3d audio) everyone . Maybe it wont be long before you can go hang out in a virtual environment with friends who are also in VR. You can quickly see why Facebook bought oculus.

If you got a Note 4 and love virtual reality, this is the best investment. I first saw a couple of reviews, highly recommended by not one many top reviewers. I bought it and I still can't believe how amazing this headset is. If you got a Note 4, buy it! I guarantee you will be amazed. Some of my friends that tried it brought the Note 4 just to buy the headset.

This is really, really cool. Very good taste of the future. Of course, must have Note 4 for this to work, if you have ANY other device, don't bother. Now word of warning. SIT. Also, if you have ever experienced any type of motion sickness, vertigo, etc, some of the games and apps will trigger this. Be prepared, expect it. Not a whole lot of apps yet, pay store was JUST released of course, but many of the apps there are very well done. There are a few experiences (dreadhalls) that are just downright scary and for some, might be extremely uncomfortable. If you don't believe me, view some youtube videos of folks trying that one. Watching the news, waiting to see the first Heart Attack victim of stuff like this. LOL
