Awesome for the price, stylish, & well made.Posted .
I returned one laptop after another until this one came out. I was drawn to the modern style, build quality, and price. I am now finally completely happy. In the last few months I've tried Sony (bad speakers and display), HP (horrible trackpad and webcam), Asus (horrible everything, horrible experience), and Gateway (not bad overall but build quality is lacking). I'm not going to go into detail on the hardware because you can read that under the specs. But, the high points are: Good, snappy mainstream performance for the price. The keyboard is excellent. Best I've ever used. The display is bright and vivid. The speakers are one of the loudest I've heard. Very clear, crisp sound for a laptop. (The Sony's speakers crackled at normal movie volume, the HP's were pointed in the wrong direction, and I needed external speakers for the Asus to hear any video, mp3, or DVD.) Build quality is great. Very stylish and modern. Pretty thin and not heavy. I have never even heard the cooling fan or hard drive once. Webcam works great. And the trackpad is smooth with accurate response. Other than those things, the trackpad buttons could be a little quieter, and Samsung could install a little less bloatware. (Although some users will find some of the Samsung software useful.) That's really the only two small complaints I have, one of which I've already uninstalled. In response to a few other reviewers: Sure it's upgradable, it's just that Solid State HDs can be finicky. Also, I find that the DVD drive is fine for me. It just has a little firm resistance which I find comforting actually. So, trust me, pass up all the other plain, old-school styled laptops and pick this one up. Samsung is doing great these days.I would recommend this to a friend

Just An Amazing ExperiencePosted .
There is so much to say about this laptop. The whole system with the i3 processor is incredibly fast, even without the $100 Best Buy set up. I would recommend this laptop to the world if I could. The chick-let styled keyboard is amazing, especially with the number pad on the side. Windows 7 works very well on this laptop as well. HDMI to a TV is awesome with the laptops mirroring capability. Audio is great for a laptop, loud and clear. Webcam quality is very good, I am not sure the exact megapixel but it is much better than most laptop webcams and external ones at that. This is great for a beginner technology user to an expert. BUY THIS LAPTOP!I would recommend this to a friend

Really happy with Samsung RV511Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
The Samsung RV511 is our first laptop. We've had Dell desktops for many years, and been happy with them. We were ready to move to a laptop and as I did research, I initially purchased a Dell, but returned it after 2 days due to performance issues. I had done a bit of research on the RV511 and an HP, and when I went back to Best Buy to return the Dell laptop, both the RV511 and HP laptops were on display. I looked carefully at price, both sets of specs, tried the feel of the keyboard, etc., and decided to bring home the Samsung RV511. It had the most bang for the buck in terms of specs. I've been very pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed using this laptop and by the performance, ease of use and setup. No bloatware, and Samsung has some very nifty system tools and helpful apps on board. The only thing I found a bit confusing is the hard drive partitioning that happens when you first turn the thing on. The operating system stays on C: while everything else gets routed to D: I really saw no reason to change the default settings, and have kept the hard drive partitioned that way. I haven't had any problems at all with this setup. We were so satisfied with the performance and specs for the price that we purchased a second RV511 a week later. What I like best about the RV511 is 1. Performance is very good - very fast startup, quick response for all applications (normal home use with lots of internet and MS Office applications). 2. Samsung includes a recovery CD, which is unusual these days. I didn't have to spend an hour and a half backing up the operating system before I could even use the thing. 3. Keyboard is the most comfortable and enables me to work efficiently. I'm a fast typist (85+ WPM) and many laptop keyboards feel uncomfortable and too small -- the RV511 is exceptionally easy to type on. 4. Battery life seems fine -- there is a Samsung Battery Life Extender application that is easy to set up and helps you get the most out of your battery life depending on how you use your laptop. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the touch pad -- I don't really like using those on ANY laptop... so I use a wireless mouse. Works great for me. I did not sign up for the WiMax, which is built in on this laptop. I don't carry this around with me -- it stays at home. But I could see how it would be very convenient. The RV511 also has Intel's Wireless Display -- in order to make that work you have to purchase a set-top box. At this point, I have no need to use this, but it's nice to know it's there if it comes up in the future. We've owned our Samsungs for a month now and are very happy with our purchases. I would recommend this laptop to a friend, most definitely.

I feel compelled to write this.Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
Alright, first off I gotta say. I rarely write reviews, however I do rely on them to choose a product. Originally, after spending about 3hours on a laptop to purchase thought I was sold on the Toshiba A665 , which was a close first next to the the Asus K52F. I did not even have the Samsung on the radar for some reason. I visited one BB location to pick up the Toshiba, but they didnt have any in stock, then I went to the next place which was supposed to have 3 in stock, but they didnt have any. I asked the sales guy to be honest with me on which laptop he would look at. He brought me over to this RV511. He compared this laptop with the Toshiba on benchmark tests and this one was performing higher on each processor. Not to mention, the one annoying thing about the Toshiba which would have bugged me is the mouse keys were very loud, and just sounded flimsy, it was the same in both BB locations, so it wasnt just on one. I love how sleek this laptop is, it's on the lines of a Mac laptop in terms of looks and how slim it is. The screen is awesome, I got 4hours out of the battery life which I can't complain. In most cases I will have a jack or will only require about 3 hours. What do I use this for? I use excel heavily, I write macros which can use up system resources heavily, however this laptop was able to run through the macros with no problems. It's been sitting on my lap for the past hour and has not gotten unbearably hot, as my fiances HP does. PRO: Looks , performance, numerical keypad, i3 processor, PRICE Con: The only con I can think of which is more user erros is that when I type my palm has gotten so used to haning out kinda low, and now when it does that it touches the mouse which causes the curser to jump.. but the past day I've been retraining my hand to be placed somewhere else and that problem has gone away.. at first it thought it was a machine error, but It's totally a user error. The other little thing is , I'm usually paranoid about AC adapters, seems like they always get messed up, my DELL's have never gotten messed up because the cables are so thick, this cable is a little thinner so I'm a little worried about that, I'll be keeping my eye on ie that it does not stay in a awkward position. Other than that, I hope this review may help someone with there decision how is going back and forth like I did. This laptop is awesome, I'm not easy to please but this thing has really surpassed my expectations.

Excellent laptop - highly recommendPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
Up to this point I've owned HP and Toshiba laptops, and my last one (Toshiba) was only 2 years old. It was a work horse, but developed a serious problem with overheating. A couple of techs suggested it might be an overheating video card. Spend $300 to fix, or upgrade with a new one? I was going to go with a new Toshiba, but after stopping at a couple of Best Buys, and doing some online research, I was persuaded that the Samsung might be the better fit. Every BB salesperson I talked to recommended it over both the Toshibas and HP's. I especially liked the idea that it would stay cooler than the HP! After using it for two weeks, I'm very impressed. One always hopes they won't be the person who ends up with the occasional laptop lemon - and I'm pleased to say mine is working as well as the others mentioned here. My Toshiba really slowed down over the last two years (and I clean out spywear, cache, browsing, etc. regularly...talk about needing 5 minutes to start up!), so the Samsung was a delight with its quick initial start up and hibernate features. The reviewer who was having a 3-minute start up each time the lid opens needs a new computer! This laptop starts up fresh in about 2 minutes, and almost instantly restores when I open the lid, even after several hours idle. The chicklet keys are a little "clicky" when I'm in a quiet room, but it's manageable. I love the numeric keyboard on the right side, and it doesn't add much to the size of the laptop. I thought I'd be frustrated by the lack of an external sound 'wheel', but I've adjusted to the keyboard based system quickly. You're supposed to be able to use more advanced finger gestures to control web pages, but I don't seem to know how to enable that feature. I don't use my phone that way, so maybe I'm not missing anything? It's extremely quiet, cool, and has a very pleasing form factor. The Toshiba had a shiny surface that really attracted finger prints. This silver casing doesn't show a thing. After the Toshiba, this laptop is almost too light! I know that sounds funny, but it's true. I have to be very careful to handle it on table tops, since it scoots away so easily. The Toshiba also had what turned out to be a very convenient battery 'bump' on the bottom of the laptop. Made it very easy to pick up and put in my neoprene case. Since the Samsung is so sleek, I need to be very conscious of how I handle it...until it's more familiar with its weight and 'feel.' The speakers are a little 'tinny' sounding, but hey, it's a laptop. To my eyes, the color quality is quite good. Windows 7 takes a bit to get used to, but not a big learning curve. Overall, I'm extremely impressed, and think this a great laptop for the money. I love the speedy processor and getting 4MB of RAM in a new machine was essential. I often have 20 web tabs, 3 or 4 Word docs, and another program or two open. I really wanted a machine that wouldn't bog down, and so far, so good. (I don't do any high end graphics processing or gaming, but do use PowerPoint) I'll look at adding more RAM in the future, if it starts to slow down. So far, my battery life seems to average around 3 hours, maybe a bit more. I'd love to see it last even longer, but I usually work with it plugged in. Compared to my past laptops, it does a much better job, so I'm pretty satisfied. I also liked the number of extremely positive reviews - they helped me make the decision to upgrade. Hope you enjoy yours as much!

AMAZINGPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
This is my first laptop, and I am very OCD about research. I want to make sure I get what I pay for. It was between this model and an HP G-series (which is backordered everywhere). I compared both side by side, and while this one was a little more expensive, my IT guy told me that this computer does not get as hot as the HP's and will last me about 1.5-2yrs longer because of that reason. Also the spec's on this computer are unbelievable for the $550 pricetag. With all that being said, I got it home, it reconized my WifI instantly and the setup took minutes. Movies and T.V shows, as well as Netflix loaded just as fast. I wanted to test the "HD sound system" and monitor quality/clairity (which of corse some people had issues with this as well). What better way to do that, then by putting in the greatest audio/visual movie of all time: ~AVATAR~...All I have to say is WOW, it was AMAZING. It was like watching it in HD on my HDTV, it was almost 3D like. And HD sound is nothing like I've ever heard on a computer. It was truly like having surround sound on. (played the DVD no problem BTW. Just have to upload the DVD software when it pops up) As for the sleep mode problem I read about in a couple reviews; I opened the top press any button and it's on in 3 seconds (yes I counted) Also the fingerprint issue that some had (which I think is nit picking just a little) is not a problem. I don't know if Samsung has changed the casing since the complaint, but I haven't seen any prints, and I've got a 5 yr old. The mouse IS a little annoying, but this is my first laptop, so I prob just have to get used to it. I know this was kind of long review, but they are very important. I wanted to make sure this laptop got the credit it deserved. It's fast, easy and is way more then I thought I was going to get by just reading the specs. You diff have to see and use to believe. I'll update in the next few months to see if I still feel the same way. (but will be much shorter, PROMISE) lol

Good value for features that are on the laptopPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
Ok. So i've had this laptop for a week now. Overall, it is a great computer. PROS- 1)price is the first, this computer blows all the others in its price range away. 2) display. The display on this computer is very crisp and i have used about 30 different laptops in the past 5 years (not all were mine of course) and this computer has better graphics than all but a few (dell xps, macbook pro, and a $1400 vaio) 3) Keyboard. The keyboard on this computer is extremely smooth and comfortable and has the nice added feature of a full number pad. 4) The built in wireless on the computer is blazing fast in comparison to a lot of other laptops that i have used, although i don't know if it is the actual hardware of the computer or just a product of the computer's speed CONS- 1) Webcam. the webcam on this computer is average at best, i have seen a lot better webcams on other laptops, but this one still gets the job done 2) battery life. This computer does not have a 5 hour battery life. When running one program without sound or video it is 3-4. and sound/video takes it down to 2-2 1/2 hours. Using the disk drive takes battery life down even further. Performance- the performance of this computer is neither a pro or a con for me because it honestly is a mix of both pro's and cons. Start up time for this computer is impressive (1-2 minutes), especially since i have two programs that open immediately upon start up. The rv511 ao1 also runs very quietly and cool. Not once so far have i heard/felt the fan running or felt any heat coming off of the computer. One issue that i have had, and it cleared up quickly was RAM. The day i got it i opened it up, installed everything and continued to use it without shutting down and restarting. After a few hours of use the first day it started to really slow down. Then i shut it down, the computer automatically installed a boatload of updates and since restarting it after the first time it has run flawlessly ever since Also a few things i forgot to put in the review earlier, the speakers are very average, Samsung also seems to have a lot less "Bloatware" than other computers

I have been shopping for a replacement laptop since before XMAS. I do a lot of photo editing and video editing. Pretty much decided on Samsung, with i7 processor and to spend $1,200. I ran into this model and learned since I do not play video games the i7 processor with independent graphics card was an overkill and saved myself $600! This baby runs Micorsoft Office version 7, Cannon SLR Editing Software (raw picture editing) and Pinnicle Video Editing Software without a hitch! The monitor is clear with good resolution, it's lightweight and stays cool even when running video editing software. I use the AC Adapter 90% of the time so battery life wasn't a big concern. However, just sitting on the patio surfing the internet I got well over 3 hours. It is sleek looking like an apple. I do have to upgrade to Window 7 Professional so I can simulate Windows XP for my NeatReceipts Software. Only $80 upgrade so no big deal.

Q: QuestionWhat software is included with this laptop?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Unfortunately, I will not have a list of included software with this specific laptop. Many times, different retailers will request different varieties of software to be installed on the laptops. Because of this, I will not have an accurate list of installed applications. I would suggest contacting a dedicated Best Buy associate for further assistance. -MrSamsung
