Near perfection in a sleek brushed aluminum case..Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but I felt this thing deserved it. I had owned a Toshiba Satellite L355 for a little over a year, which was surprisingly reliable though cheap, but my recent business ventures have required an insane amount of multi-tasking with the use of "heavy" programs, which proved to be too much of a demand for performance for my Satellite. I usually hunt for the 'bargain' laptops that linger around the $500-600 range, but I decided it was time to invest in performance and quality close to the best out there. I think I found it. After doing tons of research on the reliability and quality of different laptop brands, I was absolutely set on the gunmetal Sony Vaio with the i5 at $800. Everything I read said that Apple was the highest, and Sony right under them. I drove to Best Buy ready to buy the Vaio they were holding for me at customer service and happened to go to the laptop section to just take a look around. I happened to see this laptop and until then I didn't even know Samsung had entered the ring of the computer manufacturing world. I already knew they were the best of the best when it comes to TV's, but I was curious as to whether or not they were any good with notebooks, as they've only been on the scene for a little over a year. This one had nearly the same specs as the Vaio except this one has a slightly larger HDD. I knew I wanted the i5 processor, at least a 500gb HDD, and at least 4gb of RAM, but I didn't know how powerful that combination would be. I couldn't pass up the sleek design and functionality of this laptop and decided to give Samsung a try, and I'm so glad I did. Think of it as a cheaper Macbook. The thing even looks strikingly similar to Apple's notebooks. The appearance and quality of the materials on this thing cannot be beaten by another PC. The Sony even appeared slightly 'cheap' compared to this laptop. Whereas with my Toshiba the cheap thin plastic casing would bend, scratch, and flex easily, this laptop's brushed aluminum shell is firm, sturdy, and stunning, and doesn't move a bit. It's rock solid. The touchpad is identical to Apple's, so for some that may take some getting used to. The keys and buttons just 'feel' great, and it is thinner and lighter than the Vaio. Picture quality and graphics are great. I have yet to test out the webcam and speakers but I won't be using those much anyway. Again, this thing is lightning fast and handles everything I can throw at it (which is a lot) with ease, all while not getting hot. Oh, and I thought for sure that the claimed 7-hour battery life was a joke, but somehow you can squeeze 5-7 hours out of this thing depending on brightness and what you're running of course. I love that; I can go the whole day without ever needing to charge it back up, and all that with a 6-cell battery. Samsung should teach the other manufacturers the secret that lies behind that because I find it fascinating. My Toshiba lasted 2 hours at most at the lowest brightness. As far as I'm concerned this laptop is virtually flawless. I literally have NOTHING to complain about so far with this computer. I am so pleased with my purchase. I suppose time will tell in regards to the reliability, but given the signs thus far, I have a feeling this thing will last a long time. I think I'm already hooked on the Samsung brand (I already own one of their TV's). I'm a college student and while sitting at the library today I already got some compliments on how awesome this thing looks. The brushed silver with the raised chrome letters just looks stunning. It is very thin too, and very light and compact. It's even rounded a bit at the edges so it looks smaller and thinner than it really is. You can literally see and feel the quality of this laptop just by looking at it and handling it. The page on bestbuy.com does not mention the expandability of the RAM but I did a Crucial scan and it is indeed expandable to 8gb, but so far I don't see myself ever needing that much. I guess the i5 combined with a huge hard drive (640gb I believe) makes for ultra-high performance. I guess that's about it. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who is considering buying a Vaio of equal stats and price or someone who is on the fence about the Samsung brand. Looks like they really hit the ground running. I've owned laptops from Toshiba, Dell, Acer, HP, and Asus, and I can confidently say that this one seems to be of the highest quality, best performing, and best looking. Can't say much about reliability yet, but it does have the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. It also has 4G and WiMax which I haven't even messed with yet. Buy this laptop, it is definitely worth the price. Only a year into the game and I'd say Samsung has seemingly already crushed the majority of the other PC manufacturers on all fronts.

Perfect MachinePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I'm a computer sales associate at one of the BestBuy branches and I do own this notebook myself. Out of all the computers available in stores as of today, this is probably the best Windows based notebook your money can buy. Intel Core i5 460M processor clocked at 2.53 GHZ. This is a dual-core processor with multi-threading. The high majority (90-95%) of all i3/i5 processors on laptops are dual-core processors. The clocked speed of 2.53GHz is pretty high in laptop standards. Most laptops either 2.4GHZ or below. (Clocked speed is the speed of each processor. Scale 0-4GHZ. 2.53GHZ = 2.53 billion cycles per second). With Intel's Turbo Boost this sucker will dish out 2.8GHZ, which is extremely high for a laptop. So we established that this is a top of the line processor compared to the other laptops in the store (and most online). 4GB of RAM, upgradeable to 8GB. Most laptops now a days all have at least 4GB of RAM, so this may not seem so impressive at first glance. However, this Samsung model doesn't use the ordinary RAM. It uses high class RAM with a higher data transfer rate and higher peak transfer. It has two 2GB DDR3 PC3-8500 (8500/10600), most RAM on laptops purchased is DDR2 with peak transfer of under 6400 (- PC2-6400). NVIDIA 310M 512MB dedicated graphics card. If you are a gamer and know graphic cards, then you would know that this is just an entry level graphic card. The graphic card is not that impressive nor is its 512MB of dedicated space. However, sadly enough almost all other laptops in the store don't have a dedicated graphics card at all. Majority of laptops all seem to come with less than mediocre integrated graphic cards. This is, just as stated above, an entry level gaming graphic card. So don't expect too much out of games. Prepare to have your settings set at low. That doesn't upset me though as I don't use my laptop for gaming and I also believe laptops should never be used for gaming to begin with (PERIOD). For watching movies, editing graphics, and maybe even some 3D modeling this graphics card is more than perfect. You should be thankful your getting a dedicated card for under $800. (Dedicated means that all 3D textures, images, etc. are all loaded onto the graphic cards (512MB) dedicated storage, opposed to being handled by your processor/RAM. 640GB 5400 RPM hard drive. It's the only downside to the laptop, slow hard drive. Easy solution, upgrade to 7200 RPM HDD. It's neither expensive nor complicated. What I did is replace the manufacturers HDD with an 80GB Intel X25-M SSD hard drive. I can boot up my computer before I even get a chance to pinch my fingers together to 'snap'. SSD hard drives are the future of hard drives, invest in it. Other key facts... Multi-Touch touchpad, 7 hours battery life, Premium SRS sound quality. Wrote this review because this computer deserves a lot more recognition then it has been getting recently. Enjoy, sorry if I got too techy.

Love this SamsungPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
First off, let me start by saying that this laptop blows my toshiba laptop out of the water. It is really fast, so it won't slow down when you are running multiple applications. I'm a student and this handles everything I can throw at it and more. All of my friends have Macbooks, and this laptop is just as good if not better than theirs. One of the main things I wanted when I was looking at laptops was battery life and portability. I would say this gets about 6-7 hours just browsing the internet. it will probably get 4-5 hours if you are doing any type of media stuff. It is also pretty light, but I think it is a little heavier than the stated 4.7 lbs. The other thing I was looking for was a laptop that was quiet and didn't get hot. This laptop easily meets those expectations. I can actually keep this laptop in my lap and not get burned. One of the things that surprised me about this laptop was the multi-touch trackpad. If you like two finger scrolling and pinch to zoom then you will like this trackpad. It also has a three finger swipe to go back and forward on pages on the net. Overall this is a great laptop, and I think it is underpriced for all the features that come with it. Any comparable laptop is at least a grand.

Greatest Computer I've Ever OwnedPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I've owned many computers in my life and this is by far the best. I bought it to replace my ASUS G73 because it was way to heavy to carry and I had a maximum of 1 hr 30 min battery life. I am a PC gamer and this computer can handle any game i throw at with decent performance and it can handle any program with ease. The left mouse button is a little annoying because if you leave your finger on the button, it may not register the click, but I got used to it and it seems to happen less often now then when i got it. I easily get 7+ hrs of battery life on the Samsung Optimized power plan, and i can get 3 hrs easily while gaming. The computer does get a little hot on the W-A-S-D keys when gaming but only after about an hour or so, and its not uncomfortably hot. The NVIDIA Optimus technology works great and quickly change from one graphics card to another, and you still get good performance out of the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD card too. The boot-up was very slow when I got the computer, but I ran the built-in Boot Optimize and it sped the boot times up a lot. Overall this a great computer for anyone, even gamers who are looking for a machine that can game with the best of them and still get great battery life while not gaming, and it is a great alternative to the Alienware M11x.

Excellent Quality!!! Right balance of specs, pricePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I am a pretty experienced user and have had everything including Dell, HP, Toshiba, ASUS, IBM (work thing) and Samsung just to name a few. This unit is built like a rock with quality materials... true glass screen, aluminum covering. It's doesn't have a lot of bloatware and was quick to install programs, connect online, and connect using the push2tv adapter to display items wirelessly on my 55 inch LCD tv. So far everything works great! I've had a Samsung netbook for about a year in addition to my other computers and have been impressed by the quality. Everything just works and it works fast. I5 core processor (2.53 ghz), 4 gig ram, 640 hard drive, WIFI/WIMAX ready, Intel Wireless Display, NVIDIA and Intel HD graphics and they balance depending on what is being done. I don't game, but streaming video etc... works flawlessly. You can read the details on the specs, but it's a good size to carry and with the wireless display it's easy to display on a large LED/LCD TV. Heavy duty lithium battery and quick 3 secs from sleep mode. Enjoy!

Beware of Partitioned hard drivePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I originally purchased a HP notebook. The trackpad was horrible. The pointer jumped all over the place. This notebook is slightly better, but it isn't the best. What's really bad about this notebook is that the hard drive is partitioned because it is so large. I've owned many PCs and notebooks. Twice before I've ran across a parttioned hard drive. Every computer I've owned, the C drive has always been the main hard drive. Figuring this was the case, I set the partition with the C drive having 447 GB and the D drive having 132 GB. I thought this was a good set up. I WAS WRONG!!! I'm sure the other notebooks on the market have 500 GB in the C drive, which is why I set it up this way. There is no manual. So you have no clue that your C Drive isn't the main hard drive. It would have been nice if Samsung mentioned this somewhere instead of warning me during set up. I was warned that my choice was final. Being warned that my parttion set up was final and it couldn't be changed was worthless since I wasn't warned that Samsung took it upon themselves to change the way the hard drive is set up. I found this odd as I was able to reset the partition in the other computers I had owned that dealt with the partition. HERE IS THE PROBLEM....THE D DRIVE IS THE MAIN HARD DRIVE. Why Samsung changed this is beyond me. My hard drive has 42 GB of space left. Fortunately I purchased the extended warranty and I have owned this notebook less than 14 days. Tomorrow (my 13th day) I will take this back to Best Buy to reset the partition. Samsung says that a techie should be able to fix this problem. SO BEWARE, when you set up this notebook. Make sure the D drive has more space than the C Drive. I wish one of the reviews on this product would have mentioned this. If I had known, I wouldn't have made this mistake. Overall, I like this product. it is the fastest notebook I've ever owned. It is also the smallest screen I've ever owned, but it is worth it for a battery that last as long as this one is supposed to last. The larger the screen the more battery power is required. There isa a feature in this product that preserves the battery.

Amazing Product for an Amazing PricePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I shopped around for a new laptop everywhere. Walmart, Target, COMPUSA, and even online. Since Samsung is new to the Laptop industry i was a little hesitant to purchase this product, but let me say this has been the best electronic product i have purchased in years. I have a two year old Sony Vaio laptop which i was upgrading from, treated me well but nothing like this new Samsung. Quality is amazing, it looks and feels like a Macbook Pro for half the price. When i close the lid and re-open it the computer starts up and im able to access the internet in seconds. Display, amazing. I cant even hear the computer even when im playing high graphics games. The computer NEVER heats up even when laying on your bed. This computer is portable, exceptional battery life, high graphics, great performance, and incredible portability. The only thing it is missing, which doesnt really affect me, is a bluetooth integrated system. I would high recommend anyone who is looking for portability and performance to purchase this laptop!

Great Computer Great Value Overall Good PurchasePosted .I would recommend this to a friend
After doing a little research I decided this would be a great purchase to use in my volunteer work. Considering that computers have come down in price considerably since my last computer purchase (2008) I was a little put off by the price. I decided to put that behind me and go for it. I'm so glad that I did! The screen displays an excellent image with very sharp colors. The keyboard is very responsive although I wouldn't mind if it was back lit. The computer does a great job of battery management and I average 4+ hours per charge with standard use. The computer stays cool even after hours and hours of using multiple applications without a break. As other customers have mentioned this computer does not come with a lot of "Junk" preloaded and as a result seems very stable and loads applications with ease. Physically I think this computer looks better than most and is clearly designed to compete with the Apple Macbook. In addition to looking sharp it appears as if it is built to last. Bottom line this computer is a great product if you are looking for a strong computer for everyday use.
