Good product that works
|Posted .I have a few these already so I knew what to expect. It paired easily with the smartthings base according to the directions. I installed this one on my garage door. I had to make a bracket to mount the sensor but it works great. Tells me when the garage was opened, closed and gives me a temp reading in the garage. Works as advertised. After a couple months installed the battery is still in the 90%. I have had other smartthings sensors for about 6 months and have not had to replace a battery yet.

Excellent remote monitoring devices
|Posted .Purchased devices to monitor heat and water issues for a rental property in a distant location from home. So far, very satisfied!

Worthless since an update
Posted .SmartThings pushed out an update a while back and these sensors have been worthless ever since. They CONSTANTLY go offline and the only way to get them back online is to pull the battery out, reset it, relink it to the network and then delete the old one. Then do it again a few days later when they go offline again. I'm not exaggerating when I say that at least one goes offline every day or two. My attached screenshot shows $160 worth of sensors offline and worthless. The idea of using these as window/door sensors is for peace of mind and security. Since the update, they're more trouble than they're worth. Other SmartThings work reliably (light bulbs, motion sensors, etc), but these are useless. Don't buy them at any price.

Impressive
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe key word is "Multipurpose". There are so many options on what you can do with this thing! Very happy with purchase. As a suggestion, when setting these up, remove the plastic cover and pull the battery out and remove the plastic strip that separates the battery from the contact versus pulling on the plastic tab end. On each of mine this left a small piece of plastic that caused it to go offline randomly until I pulled the battery out and found the small piece of plastic.

Cheap alternative to security systems
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe sensors work great to let me know when sneaky teenagers are trying to leave the house or have persons come over when I'm not home! Kids are using technology… You can use it too! Fight back parents!

Great piece for a DYI installer
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWe purchased the SmartThings Hub security system for our home. I installed everything myself and it was very easy. The only downside is that it's very sensitive and if the contact isn't flush/on the same level/ as the pairing piece then it registers as the contact being open even if the window or door is shut. I had to buy thicker Velcro pieces to make it level with each other, the ones provided didn't do the trick.

Adds "smarts" to my home
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe multipurpose sensor has one particular use I am interested: if a door is open. I have this installed on my sliding glass door that goes to the back yard. If it is open, I have it set up so the A/C won't turn on. That you can set things up so you don't waste the A/C with windows/doors open is what makes a smart home smart! Additionally, this sensor has a thermometer so I can tell what the temperature is at the slider. Use this with SmartThings hub or some other smart home hub. My only gripe with it is that it keeps falling down. I've resorted to extra strong double sided sticky tape.

Works just as designed
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendInstalled these as extras with my smarthings hub, I added one out at my mailbox also so that I can tell when the mail man has come and get an alert also on my phone! As an added bonus since it has a built in thermostat, I can easily check to see how hot/cold it is outside.
Q: QuestionRefrigerator or freezer temps? Our freezer went out and we threw out about $1200 worth of food. Is there a monitor available that would send an IM to my cell or an email if temps are out of acceptable range?
Asked by Tom.
- A:Answer Absolutely! I actually used a SmartThings motion sensor for this purpose (just because I had an extra - but the multi sensor should work the same for temp). In my case it would detect both motion and temp. I setup an alert to trigger whenever the temp went above or below a certain temp. You can configure in the app to either send a text or do a push notification from the app itself. NOTE: I learned it is perfectly normal that a fridge temp will go up and down quite a bit b/c it actually will warm to a certain temp, then the cooling will kick in and drop it back down. If I remember correct mine varied by about 5 degrees even during "normal" operation. SmartThings has a great community forum if you want to ask specific questions about how to configure exactly what you are looking for.

Q: QuestionI thought that this sensor only detects if something is open but on this site it states that it can send an alert if someone knocks on the door. How does it do this?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer it detects an open or closed status when in proximity of the included magnet. It senses temperature of the surface that it is mounted to. It senses vertical and horizontal orientation (for garage door open/closed) status. ...and it senses vibration as a result of someone attempting forced entry, or knocking upon the door.

Q: QuestionCould I use this to monitor temp at my cabin from my home to keep a eye in indoor temps and gmaybe alert if it gets cold if my heat fails so I’d know to run up there? If so what would I need ? I have WiFi there Thanks
Asked by Tempwatcher.
- A:Answer Yes you can. You would need a Wink 2 or Samsung hub in your cabin. The sensors would report to the hub, and the hub would transmit to the Internet. I suggest reading up on “creating robots with Wink 2” or “IFTTT” apps for Samsung Smartthings and Wink to get accurate instructions or existing apps for being notified about temp readings.

Q: QuestionCan this be connected to the Amazon echo dot and controlled by it?
Asked by Me.
- A:Answer Hmmm, well the Echo system will Sync and work with Samsung Smart Things however Echo is about ditching the Smart phone and using your voice to control functions in your home. The Multi-Sensor can not do anything as pertaining to using your voice so they don't work together that way. It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish as to what I would recommend. For instance as it pertains to lights in your home you have several options like Smart bulbs or even WEMO switches or Smart outlets for lamps. All of these can be controlled via your voice with the Amazon Echo Dot. Like wise they can all be controlled with the Multi-sensor too, Open a door and the lights come on, you can then in turn have the lights turn back off after several minutes. Hope this helps,

Q: QuestionCan this alert only when a door is left open for more than a certain amount of time, not when it just opens? Renters leave doors open in winter!
Asked by Momof4.
- A:Answer You can set it up to notify you when the door is opened or closed. You can use the phone app and see if a door is open or closed.
