Good product that works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a few these already so I knew what to expect. It paired easily with the smartthings base according to the directions. I installed this one on my garage door. I had to make a bracket to mount the sensor but it works great. Tells me when the garage was opened, closed and gives me a temp reading in the garage. Works as advertised. After a couple months installed the battery is still in the 90%. I have had other smartthings sensors for about 6 months and have not had to replace a battery yet.

Excellent remote monitoring devices
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased devices to monitor heat and water issues for a rental property in a distant location from home. So far, very satisfied!

Impressive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The key word is "Multipurpose". There are so many options on what you can do with this thing! Very happy with purchase. As a suggestion, when setting these up, remove the plastic cover and pull the battery out and remove the plastic strip that separates the battery from the contact versus pulling on the plastic tab end. On each of mine this left a small piece of plastic that caused it to go offline randomly until I pulled the battery out and found the small piece of plastic.

Simple home security
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't want to lock in to a home security contract but wanted confidence no one was entering my home when I was out, plus to know when kids got home. Set up sensors at all three entry doors plus activated "vibration" option for the big glass garden door (in case someone broke the glass to enter). So far so good - I get text alerts when the garden door shakes (need to tweak that a bit as I am the one doing the slamming because it sticks). Haven't been gone while kids have come in and out so haven't tested those notifications yet, but assume they will work like the vibration alerts.

Working great on my Garage door
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this for my garage door and it is working great, I mainly needed to detect when I leave the garage door open. Had to install it on the top part of my garage door so it can detect if the sensor is in a vertical (closed) or horizontal (open) position. Then you can create make it send you a notification if the garage is open or close or if it is open for a number of minutes, you can also trigger a camera when the sensor is open... well there are multiple options on how you can use it

Great to know when someone enters/leaves
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this with the ADT Samsung Hub, although this device is NOT supported by ADT security. This device is only used as a way to notify you on your phone if activity has triggered the device. I use it on the garage door to know when cars enter and leave. Again, this device will work with the ADT Samsung SmartHub, but is NOT capable of contacting ADT in case of emergencies. For that you need the Samsung ADT supported door/window sensors.

It reports on comings, goings and temperatures!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say about about the Multipurpose sensor from SmartThings? Small Easy to install Easy to manage Sensitive to vibration Sensitive (for reporting on) temperature ...it can even detect the status of the garage door, in the event that I do not recall closing it! Quite possibly the single best, most versatile component in my SmartThings home automation component lineup!

Q: QuestionCan this alert only when a door is left open for more than a certain amount of time, not when it just opens? Renters leave doors open in winter!
Asked by Momof4.
- A:Answer You can set it up to notify you when the door is opened or closed. You can use the phone app and see if a door is open or closed.

Q: QuestionRefrigerator or freezer temps? Our freezer went out and we threw out about $1200 worth of food. Is there a monitor available that would send an IM to my cell or an email if temps are out of acceptable range?
Asked by Tom.
- A:Answer Absolutely! I actually used a SmartThings motion sensor for this purpose (just because I had an extra - but the multi sensor should work the same for temp). In my case it would detect both motion and temp. I setup an alert to trigger whenever the temp went above or below a certain temp. You can configure in the app to either send a text or do a push notification from the app itself. NOTE: I learned it is perfectly normal that a fridge temp will go up and down quite a bit b/c it actually will warm to a certain temp, then the cooling will kick in and drop it back down. If I remember correct mine varied by about 5 degrees even during "normal" operation. SmartThings has a great community forum if you want to ask specific questions about how to configure exactly what you are looking for.

Q: QuestionDoes it have to have the Samsung Smart Things Hub or will it work with a Philips Hue Hub?
Asked by Brewbandit.
- A:Answer The Samsung Multi-sensor will not work with the Philips Hue Hub, however Philips Hue lights will work with the Samsung Smart things Hub.

Q: QuestionI thought that this sensor only detects if something is open but on this site it states that it can send an alert if someone knocks on the door. How does it do this?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer it detects an open or closed status when in proximity of the included magnet. It senses temperature of the surface that it is mounted to. It senses vertical and horizontal orientation (for garage door open/closed) status. ...and it senses vibration as a result of someone attempting forced entry, or knocking upon the door.

Q: QuestionCould I use this to monitor temp at my cabin from my home to keep a eye in indoor temps and gmaybe alert if it gets cold if my heat fails so I’d know to run up there? If so what would I need ? I have WiFi there Thanks
Asked by Tempwatcher.
- A:Answer Yes you can. You would need a Wink 2 or Samsung hub in your cabin. The sensors would report to the hub, and the hub would transmit to the Internet. I suggest reading up on “creating robots with Wink 2” or “IFTTT” apps for Samsung Smartthings and Wink to get accurate instructions or existing apps for being notified about temp readings.

Q: QuestionWill make a loud sound like other window sensors? By the time I see an alert on my iPhone, the burglars will done robbing the place as it takes them 4 minutes on average.
Asked by sunset007.
- A:Answer No, this does not function as an alarm and will not emit any sound whatsoever. It is just a sensor which can detect when a door or window is opened or closed. You will need a separate alarm which can be triggered on the state of the sensor within the ST config.

Q: QuestionCan this be connected to the Amazon echo dot and controlled by it?
Asked by Me.
- A:Answer Hmmm, well the Echo system will Sync and work with Samsung Smart Things however Echo is about ditching the Smart phone and using your voice to control functions in your home. The Multi-Sensor can not do anything as pertaining to using your voice so they don't work together that way. It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish as to what I would recommend. For instance as it pertains to lights in your home you have several options like Smart bulbs or even WEMO switches or Smart outlets for lamps. All of these can be controlled via your voice with the Amazon Echo Dot. Like wise they can all be controlled with the Multi-sensor too, Open a door and the lights come on, you can then in turn have the lights turn back off after several minutes. Hope this helps,
