Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf [DVD] [1988]

  • SKU: 4490624
  • Release Date: 03/05/2002
  • Rating: NR
Scooby and Shaggy are cursed in the animated family spook-fest Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf. Warner has done an only passable job on this 1.33:1 full-frame transfer. While the colors and black levels all appear generally solid, the bulk of this picture tends to appear slightly muted and soft. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital Mono in English, French, and Spanish. This is a sufficient if under-whelming soundtrack for the film. A small amount of distortion is heard in part of the mix, though otherwise this is a fairly clean audio track. Also included on this disc are subtitles in English, French, and Spanish. The extra features for this feature include "Get the Picture" which consists of an animator sketching Scooby-Doo on fast forward, a "Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Love to Eat" music video, "The Race Is On" remote-control game that allows the viewer to match up each monster with their respective race car, and some trailers for various Warner family DVDs.

Synopsis

Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf
This made-for-TV animated feature stars only two regular members of the Mystery Machine gang: Scooby Doo and Shaggy (although Scrappy, a late addition to the series, is also present). In place of Freddy, Velma, and Daphne, we have Googie, Shaggy's girl friend. It seems that Shaggy and company are now involved in race car driving. By coincidence, in far-off Transylvania, Count Dracula is getting ready for the annual Monster Car Race -- a race that features such familiar faces as Frankenstein's Monster and his bride, the Mummy, Genghis Kong, and a pair of witches. Normally, the Werewolf is a part of the race, but he has fled this year and nothing Dracula can do will bring him back. As he desperately needs a werewolf for the race, Dracula sends the Hunch Bunch -- a pair of deformed brothers -- to America, where they transform Shaggy into a werewolf. Dracula tells Shaggy that he will take the spell off of him and return him to normal -- but only if he wins the Monster Car Race. That turns out to be easier said than done, especially since Dracula does everything in his power to see that Shaggy will lose and remain a werewolf forever. ~ Craig Butler, Rovi

I was so excited to see this movie. But in the end disappointed. Caught it on sale for 10 bucks and still would say not worth it. For being a Eli Roth movie it is a huge disappointment.

My daughter enjoys all the Scooby doo movies and this one was no different. They're made to spook kids but not scare them. I enjoy watching them with her.

I grew up watching this classic and have tried to make it a Halloween staple but no one shows it anymore. Now I have the special and no excuses to miss it.

A different twist to Scooby Doo but a little limited on the theme. I was expecting all of the traditional characters. It still had a nice ending.

Great Halloween movie, these classic Scooby Doo movies are the best. They don't make them like they used to.
