Ease of Use5 out of 5Hi i got this drive for extra storage for a back up of my machine it's worth getting not only for space but with it's Eco-friendly power saving it goes into standby mode to save on electricity and with that it's not always running creating heat making a extra fan not necessary and alot less power consumption saving me $$ on the light bill. not to mention less stress on my psu. and the system in general and a technician in computers and electronics i definitely would use this product in my clients computers

A great hard drive for storage
|Posted .I used it for a replacement drive that is going bad. This was the most economical one for the size I needed. Additionally, I wanted to be sure it ran at least 7300rpm vs 5300rpm. Fast enough to write efficiently with plenty of storage.

A work horse that stands up to constant use

Great product even if it cost more!
Posted .I bought this drive a couple weeks ago to replace a five year old 2TB Seagate drive that was accidentally damaged during a case transfer a few years back. The 2TB drive had pins missing and a piece of plastic (the sata interface guide key on the drive) broken off and even with these issues the drive not only worked but performed well for about three years while damaged. I purchased this 3TB model to transfer the files from the 2TB drive and replace it in my PC. This drive performs quite well, good read and write speeds, fast access times and it performs on par with other Seagate products I've purchased, used or worked with in the past. With very few exceptions Seagate drives have exceeded my expectations in both performance and longevity, I have only ever had to RMA a Seagate product one time in my more than two decades of computer ownership, use and repair and they were very friendly and helpful there was zero hassle with getting a replacement for the drive my friend had purchased that had a failure. If you need a solid drive with a good amount of space, exceptional customer service support and a fair price it's hard to go wrong purchasing a Seagate product. I would also like to note that my local Best Buy's staff was very helpful and friendly.

Q: QuestionDoes this come with windows
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer NO. Windows is a copyrighted and protected software system that comes on CD's or DVD's. I can think of no hard disk that comes with Windows pre-installed unless it's a new PC with Windows.

Q: QuestionI have an older time capsule - looks a bit like a large Mac Mini - with a 2 TB drive that I feel is having trouble. Does anyone know if this will work as a replacement drive?
Asked by TripleDouble.
- A:Answer I'm not that familiar with Mac machines but can't see why it wouldn't work. I used the one I bought in a homemade Linux-based server as just one piece of the 40TB of disc memory that is installed and it was immediately recognized and added to the drive pool. Has been working flawlessly ever since.

Q: Question"Desktop"? OK in a external dock, thru USB? Can reformat to format exFAT?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer This is a standard "Serial ATA" drive. They classify it as "desktop" drive because it is physically larger than the drives used in laptops and other smaller computers. It could be used externally, if you provide an enclosure of a suitable size that has two things. 1. electronics to adapt Serial-ATA to USB 2. electronics to provide electric power in the right form (Drives like this consume more power than a USB connection can provide.) You might be better off to buy an "External" drive. These have a disc drive already packaged in a protective enclosure with other elements required. The Seagate Backup Plus and Expansion drive products on the Best-Buy site are examples. The drive can be reformatted for exFAT. You may have to install some optional software on your computer to do it. (That requirement applies with this drive or any other.)

Q: QuestionIs this a "green" drive?I'm hearing that "green" drives are not the best choice for your boot (main) drive due to their slower performance.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Generally speaking, "green" drives have lower RPM rates then their counterparts (usually 5400 or 5900 RPM). Since this drive has an RPM rate of 7200 RPM it would not be considered a green drive and would provide excellent performance.
