Great entry level storage device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Seagate external drive is compact with a low profile design. It is virtually silent to the point that I usually double check to make sure it's powered on. Plugged into a USB 3 port in my desktop I noticed file transfer rates of up to 39 megabytes per second. I also tried it in a USB 2 port and the transfer speeds were only up to 8 megabytes per second even though USB 2 is rated at higher transfer speeds. It must be the way it read/writes to the older port. If you don't have a USB 3 port on your computer you're not going to be happy with this drive. While plugged into the USB 3 port I was able to copy 90 plus gigabytes very quickly. I received no read or write errors during the entire process and completely satisfied with the overall performance.

Working like a charm!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although I haven't had this product in operation very long, It seems to be working very well, and backing up my info without a hiccup. I had a 1TB backup before, and this 4TB Storage/Hub is so much better and allows me greater storage of my large files and documents. I hope this product lasts as problem-free as my previous backup device did. Only time will tell, but I'm pretty confident that it will.

Earlier Version - Nice, and now with USB ports
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased what appears to be the earlier version that does not have the nice USB ports on the front. These were being sold for $69 and are sold out. The only difference appears to be the lack of the USB on the front. I did some speed tests on my 2017 MacBook Pro 15" i7 TouchBar. Using a USB-C to USB-3 converter, I tested using BlackMagic on the Mac. The results were quite surprising. I tested all formats that I could produce from Mac OS Journaled to MSDOS and ExFAT, including the new AFS format. Posted are the screen snapshots of the AFS and the ExFAT tests. You will be surprised. One was "I'm not sure if I believe it" fast. I would presume that the same drive mechanism that I have is in this Seagate unit but I have not verified. If it is, expect a nice drive.

Great Hard Drive...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Hard drive in general. Speed is great sometimes. Good others. That's my only real complaint. The speed is not consistent. You can see 100Mb per sec sometimes and 10Mb per at others. Not sure if this is normal use case or not for a spinning disk drive. It generally reads and writes at about 50Mb per sec which is plenty fast. That said, It works well. Love the drag and drop nature of the drive. I edit videos off of it for my YouTube channel, and it works great. Would I buy this again? Yup. Check out my YouTube review below. Universal You https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=M6LJId98eU4

Great External Hard Drive
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd Seagate - Backup Plus. I'm a photographer and I use this drive to save my photos, all my professional jobs and all my personal family photos. Seagate - Backup Plus drives are guaranteed 2 years, so I use it for 2 years, then buy another Seagate - Backup Plus drive to use the next 2 years. I then use the previous Seagate - Backup Plus drive as a backup of the new drive (which is not connected to the computer except to backup the new drive on a regular schedule). I have found these Seagate drives to be very durable and have had Zero problems. Yes, I do recommend these Seagate Seagate - Backup Plus drives.

Excellent drive for the sale price!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally Seagate has come out with an external drive that has a hub in it. You can finally daisy chain drives without going all the way back to a hub or the back of your computer. Sure helps with the cable mess behind one's desk! Now let's hope they're looking into making them wireless! I have stayed away from drives bigger than 2Tb for the simple fact that if it dies, you're out one HUGE amount of data... but the technology has improved, so I'm more at ease with the bigger capacities! The ONLY thing I might suggest to Seagate would be to at least ventilate the cases better, or put some sort of fan in or on them. On this 4Tb drive, there are only a few holes on the bottom, but heat rises, so wouldn't the top be a better place for holes?? Personally, I strap an external fan to the outside with rubber bands so it doesn't ever shut down because of a thermal overload. Sure it looks clunky, but it works, and it doesn't void the warranty like drilling the holes into the case or opening it up to the atmosphere!

Q: QuestionIs this Seagate - Backup Plus Hub for Mac 4TB External USB 3.0 usable as a portable hard drive. Not simply a back-up device, but can it be used as a hard drive?
Asked by Freddy.
- A:Answer It is small enough to carry with you, however it requires electrical power and not USB. Basically it is designed for backup stationary on your Mac.

Q: QuestionCan this be added to a PlayStation 4 for extra hard drive space?
Asked by Solomn232.
- A:Answer NO, it cannot, apparently. I'm trying it right now and it's not working. Apparently the "USB Hub" part of it isn't making it play nice with the PS4. While trying to format it for extended storage I'm getting the error "CE-41899-1 > Connect the USB storage Device directly to the PS4." The best I can gather is that because it's a hub, the drive has an extra step to get through the hub part and to the actual external hard drive, something that the PS4 doesn't like.
