    Easy portable set-up...minor cons.

I have to say, I am a fractionally disappointed in this item, after reading so many good reviews on it. I got this as a gift. First, the HFS+ driver. Not a good idea, unless it is a total must. Mac's can read FAT32 or FAT. I left mine alone.. On apple's website this gets a 3 star rating. Due in part by it working selectively across platforms. The reason I say this. Once you run Time Machine, It is really hard for the Super Slim to read or write on a Windows OP system, driver or not. Because for the most part Mac's have the same configuration. Then, if you buy an external drive for a MAC. Leave it alone.. It is best to keep it as is.. This is from many years of experience from LACIE, to WD . The issues are that it is not consistent, but that is and could be the older version of this one. The box looks different, etc... . I have it and looks and feels great. Do get a casing to protect it from it's exterior. Some get corrupt and some do not. Since it is for a MAC. Stick to that, if you can, It will do you a service and this will last. If you bought in US you only get a 90 day retail warranty. You can look this up here http://seagate.com/retailwarranty. I would suggest opting for BEST BUY's Extended Warranty on this. As I have none. Although if you buy this in the EU. You get 2 years of Warranty as opposed to what is advertised on Best Buy's site (not their fault in my opinion). It is confusing when you read the quick start guide inside the box. I could easily see the administrative snafu. The other part to this is the Data encryption. It does not exist!! Why? This is the only company that came out with the first 4TB of this class and they do not have a way to encrypt your Data files?? If you have classified info, You may want to opt for one that does? Maybe it really does not matter for the sake of the size of this great device. Really is, just pointing out the facts. . In the case that you get your item taken with too much personal data. It could cause a major head ache. I have this and of course already a cloud storage of sorts. With a WD passport circa 12'. I use my back ups for media files. I work in the mixed media industry. Both design with music and design on web and print.. Thus have a lot of work and important sorts, here lies my main disappointment for such a nice looking and reasonably priced storage unit. I would only use this drive for non-personal data and get a different drive for your personal data. It is great other wise, very easy to use. Plug and go. Ideal for a student or family house. The device powers this portable drive through the USB connection. You do not need an external power source. Incredible speeds and ease of interface functions. Like the compatibility with the 3.0/2.0 USB. Over all this is would be a 10/10, But give it a 8.9/10. For lack of security and compatibility issues. That is all. Cheers!!

    Good but not without issues

These are great backup drives for the money. Easy to setup and the software just does what its supposed to in the background so you can get back to work and not worry about it. I've deployed a bunch of these in a corporate environment over the last couple of months and there are a couple of issues, though. First off, setting up the software causes the computer (Windows 7 Pro, at least) to lose all of its network share mappings. They can be remapped, but the issue is very annoying and occurs every time. Also, there is an incompatibility with the BIOS on HP laptops causing a failure to boot when the drive is connected. This can be overcome by adjusting the USB settings in the BIOS, but it didn't used to be an issue at all before the current generation of drive.

I use the device for external storage with my Hopper. The set up was very easy. My Hopper recognized the device and walked me through the setup. Now, I can transfer movies and TV shows that I want to keep and not worry about filling up my Hopper storage. You can also access the external storage from all of your Joey's. The only catch is that you have to use your Hopper to make the initial transfer. No big deal, though. The Hopper will tell you how long the transfer will take and will allow you to watch live TV while you wait. The device is always plugged in and I have not noticed any issues with overheating. There is no noticeable lag time when accessing content from the device. The device does what is is supposed to do and I have no complaints.

This unit works wonderful, just as advertised. Of course, I've only had it awhile now, maybe 2 months, 3 at the most, so can't say how durable it is, but it gives the impression of being very sturdy and well made. It is bigger and seems more solid than my small WD My Passport external hard drive, which is why I got it. But for those who care about such things, this Seagate has it's own power cord and small transformer (I think that's what it is) that's part of the power cord. The WD doesn't need a separate power cord, it runs off of the USB connection power. That would be the only thing that someone else might not like, but I prefer the separate power cord, bigger and more solid unit. So far, it works great, very easy to set up. I would definitely recommend it.

    Not for XBOX 360

I bought this drive to take advantage of the new expanded 2 TB storage for xbox 360. This is not plug and play, I could not get the hard drive to format correctly to work with the xbox 360, even trying multiple formats on the PC. It always showed as unformatted and got an error when attempting to format on the 360. Research online shows Seagate is known to have issues with this for the xbox 360. If you're not planning on using this for the 360, then you should be fine. I have a similar Seagate working just fine on my Wii U, and from what I read the Xbox One has no issues. PC compatibility should be fine as well. I'd just caution against getting this if you plan to use it for the xbox 360. Get a Western Digital hard drive instead.

Not really sure about the quality of this drive as sales rep recommended it based on my requirements. When it arrived I tried to use it but it was NOT compatible. I live a 4 hr. drive one way form BB but happened to be going through and returned it to the store. The service was great and they had one right there BUT, if it did not work I would have to pay for the shipping to return it because I purchased it from the store. I have purchased a similar drive for my pc and that worked Fantastic. I have purchased several others as well just not for what this was specifically for. All others were PERFECT.

Big problem: it doesn't work directly with Win7-64

I bought the product based on the familiar name, price, and packaging that stated it worked with Windows 7. Unfortunately the "Windows 7" statement isn't entirely true. You can use Seagate's supplied software, but you can't use the Windows backup utility, which I wanted to use so I could include a system image. Seagate's technical support states this is a Microsoft problem in that their backup utility doesn't support Advance Formatted disks. Personally I don't care who's problem it is, I just don't think the advertisement on the box is entirely true. As of now (5 weeks later), I still haven't resolved the problem..

I bought this drive because it is an extra 2 TB worth of storage in a relatively small form factor. Although flash memory and ssd rivals standard drives in both speed and size, I bought this drive due to the low price and good reviews. My only concern is that given it is a USB 3.0 drive I have not been achieving purported speed of 5 gigabits/s. I have clocked my drive around 130 Megabytes/s but this is max, the avg tends to be around 60 Megabytes/s which is closer to USB 2.0 max threshold. However, if you are looking for a lot of storage in a pocket sized drive this is a decent option.
