Very compact, easy to carry
||Posted .What a great match for my Mac Mini. It looks like I purchased it from Apple. Very compact, fast, easy to toat to work with me. Would have liked it to have a different power connection (std) on the opposite end of the USB so I don't have to carry the cord back and forth. Small pain that I can live with. I use this as my Time Machine backup and to carry files and music. Goes back and forth between my Mac at home and my Windows Laptop at work. Only had to download and install a driver to go between formats.

Awesome HDD for a great price
||Posted .I was looking to upgrade from my existing external HDD that required its own power supply and took forever to transfer files. Saw this while exchanging some products one day at the local Best Buy. After a little reading into it and seeing it was designed to work well with macs, took the plunge and picked it up. The overall smaller design, light weight, speed, quietness and design made it a perfect addition to my MacBook Pro. Tons of extra space, and is even been backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports. I've been able to run a bootcamp partition from it in addition to using some for storage space still with no issues. It's a great replacement to my older, clunky and awkward HDD that was a pain to lug around.

Plug in and play
||Posted .I bought this drive to back up my Mac with Time machine. It works great. It took less than 5 minutes to back up my files which are mostly for school. I take notes in MS Word and store everything on my mac. So I needed a reliable device to back up all of my important information. This drive is very easy to use. You just plug it in to your PC or Mac and transfer your info or files. I would recomend it for everyone.

No problems so far...
||Posted .The notion of being able to review a product like a HD this soon is kind of ludicrous (doing this for Reward Zone points...), but at least for the time being it's doing everything I could have expected it to do. It transfers files quickly, is easy to use and set-up, and is extremely portable (barely largely than my iPhone 5). I have no idea how resilitant it is, which for anyone who has had a HD crash on them knows that that is always a consideration, but as of this moment I am entirely satisfied with this purchase, and would recommend it with that one caveat.

Great external drive!
||Posted .I received this external drive as a gift, and it does everything I could possibly ask it to. Instead of having its own interface, the drive shows up as a folder, which makes it really easy to drag and drop files into it. My only qualm: the cord is very short, which makes me afraid that I am going to accidentally rip it out of my computer. Otherwise, a great little drive!

A Life Saver
||Posted .When my hard drive needed to be replaced unexpectedly, I was in a bit of a panic. I ran out to Best Buy and grabbed this Seagate Slim for Mac. The night before I took the Mac in for repair, I plugged in the Seagate and hoped for the best. Not only were all my files backed up, but all my programs were too! Thank God for Time Machine! This was really important for the programs I have only a limited number of installs. Also, when you plug it in, it just does it's thing without thinking about it. Great product.

Excellent
||Posted .Could be a little more easy initially in figuring out how to do it. I know I could be more tech savvy too though. I wound up downloading it two times, because I didn't realize it had downloaded already, and used up all 500GB. Wrote company and fiddled around with buttons, and finally got it back to normal. I think though that I would recumbent a terabyte instead of 500 GB if you download a lot of music, photos, and if you use GarageBand

Good Value for Simple Storage
||Posted .I needed a small, inexpensive external hard drive to simply copy some large files onto, and then ship it off to someone else. This device is compatible with both PC and Mac, so I had that base covered. It's USB 3, so the file transfer was fast. Of all the models I saw at Best Buy the day I needed this, this was the cheapest and it still did the job great. Overall it's a good value if you want a fast external hard drive of this size.

Q: QuestionNo directions.....how do i use it to back up Mac computer. Is there supposed to be a cord?
Asked by Jill.
- A:Answer First, format the drive for a Mac, using Disk Utility, in your Utilities folder, in the Applications folder. To format the drive as a Mac drive, so you can boot from it, in a pinch, do this: 1. Plug the drive in to your Mac's USB port. It should have come with a single USB 3.0 plug, which provides both power and data to the drive. 2. Click Go:Utilities from the menu bar, at the top of your screen. 3. Double-click Disk Utility 4. Click the name of your Seagate Backup Plus in the left-hand column, to select it. 5. Click the "Partition" tab over in the right part of the window. Choose 1 partition from the drop-down, (under Partition Layout) and then click "Options" at the bottom, and select GUID, at the top. The other two choices are for older macs, or for a Windows format drive. 6. Under Partition Information, call your drive something like Jill's Backup HD or something you can recognize, and for Format, choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) The other formats can be problematic unless you're pretty knowledgeable, and have special requirements. 7. Now, click Apply. Wait a minute, and your newly formatted drive will appear over on the right of your desktop. Now that you've formatted your drive as a Mac drive, do this: Google SuperDuper, from Shirt Pocket Software, and buy it. Reason: It's better than Time Machine! Time Machine runs once an hour all day long, and can slow you down when you're trying to do some work. Super Duper makes a bootable backup, and you can easily program it to run once a day. I use it myself like this--click the Apple, pull down to System Preferences, open the Energy Saver control panel. Click the Schedule button on the bottom right, and set your Mac to wake up or turn on at 2:00AM, or whatever time is convenient for you. Then launch Super Duper, and make a full backup of your drive to the portable. A full backup can take a couple of hours. Next, click the Options button on SuperDuper, and check the box to "Repair Permissions" before you run a backup, and switch "Erase, then Backup" to "Smart Update" which mimics the first choice, but only takes about 20 minutes a day. Check out the options, and you can have your Mac turn off when Super Duper finishes, or just go to sleep, or actually restart from your backup drive. Sounds über geeky, but it's really not that hard, and Apple and Shirt Pocket software will be happy to help you. Or I will! Takes me about 10 minutes to do this stuff. And you only pay for SuperDuper once, not over and over like other disk utilities. I've had it on my Mac for about 10 years.

Q: Questionipad compatibille
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Use the Seagate Wireless 1 or 2 TB portable drives for iPhone or iPad. That way, you're not limited to the internal memory of your IOS device. But a USB drive is a no-no. There is no USB plug on an iPad or iPhone. The "Lightning" plug plugs into a USB jack on your computer or charger, but that's not the same as having a USB jack on your iPad or iPhone.

Q: QuestionSlim vs Goflex SlimHi there, can anyone please let me know if this model is the same as goflex slim. If not, what's the difference? Thanks so much.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The Goflex is shipped with Windows formatting. It will support a Mac with installation of the software that comes with the drive. The drive then creates a read-only partitioned part of the drive. Files can be transferred to the drive and openned on the PC. This drive will not work with Apple's Time Machine. When prompted "Do you want to use this for Time Machine?" answer No. The Slim for Mac will work with Time Machine and will back up devices (iPad, iPhone) through Time Machine. Slim for Mac can be set up to be dual platform with download from Seagate site. The Slim for Windows will provide auto backup also, but is not dual platform. Seagate has a really good site with lots of information and great support.

Q: QuestionI am confused by the phrase: Backup Plus Slim for MacCan this drive be used for non mac pc's
Asked by smh.
- A:Answer It can, using third party, software, such as HFS+ driver. The native disk environment is different in a MAC than a PC, My buddy gave me a memory stick written on a Mac and my PC wouldn't even recognize it until I downloaded the software. (Seagate says HFS is included with this drive.)

Q: Questionwhy is my Backup Plus ejecting whenever Time Machine starts to back up?I bought the Seagate Backup Plus for Mac 500 usb 3.0 portable harddrive yesterday. I plugged it in and whenever Time Machine attempts to start the backup I get an error message "The disk was not ejected properly..." and everything stops ...Please help!! I have an IMAC running OS 10.8.3
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer You should upgrade Mountain Lion to Yosemite to fix some bugs with the OS. That message usually occurs when you unplug the drive without ejecting it first, by a. dragging it to the trash, which changes to an eject symbol, or b. choosing File: Eject after first selecting the drive, or c. selecting the drive and then pressing Command + E on the keyboard.
