Between Seagate and Western Digital, at least when it comes to USB Portable Drives, the clear winner is Seagate. Not only do they have a lower failure rate, but their connectors are standard SATA. Western Digital case connectors are part of the drive and proprietary. If a Seagate drive fails you can always install the drive itself into another case. Not so with WD. When a WD portable drive goes south, so does your data.
