Under the sink Water Filtration Systems

If you're shopping for a water filtration system, you're looking for cleaner, better-tasting water straight from your own kitchen instead of relying on bottled water or a pass-through pitcher. A clean water filter can cut down on sediment, chlorine taste and other impurities, and many countertop systems now handle the job without any permanent plumbing changes.

Not every water filtering system works the same way, so it helps to know what you're filtering out. A carbon filter is a solid all-around choice for improving taste and odor, while a reverse osmosis system pushes water through a fine membrane to remove a much broader range of contaminants, including lead and fluoride in some models. If your water supply has a specific issue, look for a system built around that filter type — sediment filters for cloudy or gritty water, or a UV filtration system if you're also concerned about bacteria.

Most water filtration systems fall into one of two setups: countertop units that sit next to your sink and connect temporarily, or under-sink systems that install more permanently and free up counter space, which is an especially useful feature in any appliance for small space living. A countertop reverse osmosis filter is a popular middle ground, since it delivers filtered water on demand without hiring a plumber.

Filter life is worth checking before you buy — some systems use a single cartridge that needs replacing every few months, while multi-stage setups may have several filters on different replacement schedules. A filter indicator light takes the guesswork out of knowing when it's time for a swap. If you're setting up filtered water alongside a full dispenser, you can also find plenty of options for water coolers and dispensers or other water dispensers & filtration systems, such as pitchers and faucet attachments.
