Before taking your miniature drone anywhere, make sure you understand the rules and regulations in the area. Some places, like National Parks, do not allow drones. You’ll also want to remain aware of private property in the area as the use of camera drones can violate privacy laws.
Once you know the rules, make sure you know your drone. Practice flying your drone in an area where it will be easy to see and recover to ensure you are comfortable with all the controls. When in the field, keep in mind that natural and artificial features, like rocks and buildings, can get in the way of communication between your controller and your drone, causing the drone to fall. It’s also good to note that wind generally increases the higher you go.
To ensure your drone flight goes smoothly, you will want to make sure your drone batteries are fully charged before you go out. You don’t want them to run out mid-flight. You may also want to bring along spare drone propellers or parts in case anything needs fixing in the field.
