Surprisingly Unique and Useful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On arrival, the box was bigger than expected. I opened the outside brown box and found a nicely padded factory box. After opening the factory box, it was pretty straight forward. It had the oven itself, the drip tray and the cooking and crisper trays. After pulling the oven out, it was larger than I was expecting. I checked the dimensions prior and knew it would be a Hoss, but it was BIG. Please note, you'll need some counter real estate to place this Bad Boy. Set up was expectedly easy. Insert drip tray at front base, insert the baking tray and crisping tray and that's about it. I read the instructions and it was suggested to run a "Clean" cycle before first use. No problem. After running that we were good to go. Our first test was pretty dang simple. Toast! We placed a couple pieces of whole wheat bread, rotated the dial to the "Toast" position, chose our preferred level between 1-7 (we chose 4) and pressed "Select" and then "Start" and it immediately started. Approximately 5 minutes later we had 2 surprisingly moist but crisp pieces of toast. The taste was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised with the taste and quality. I know that 5 minutes seems like a bit long for toast, but on a matter of scale, our regular toaster can do a maximum of 2 pieces in 2.5 minutes where as this unit can do 6 to 9 pieces (depending on size and shape of bread) in just a little over 5 minutes. The same 9 pieces in our regular toaster would have taken more than 12 minutes so this unit could be a real time saver and offer a superior product. Our next test? The classic frozen waffle. Again, using the toast mode, we did 3 pieces in the same 5 minutes and the end product was great. The waffles were really moist yet crispy and they had a great texture. Very impressed. Third test was an interesting experience. We purchased 2 thin crust frozen pizzas. My son did the first one per the box instruction. Truth be told, it turned out a little over-cooked. It was still tasty and moist but a little rubbery. I looked at the included card and it suggested to go a little more than half the suggested time for a thin crust pizza. So I put the second pizza in at suggested temp but I ran about 40% less time and the second pizza was excellent. The crust was crisp, the toppings moist. Very good. IMPORTANT NOTE: I am cooking at just around 6000 feet above sea level, so some of this feedback may be slightly different depending on your unique location. Fourth test was some refrigerated fried chicken from our local grocery deli. We put stove on bake mode and placed on crisp tray at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. The end result? Another home run. The chicken was considerably more moist than from an oven but the crust was still crisp. Excellent. Fifth and final test was the most surprising one. My wife and 16 year old son went to run a few errands and my 13 year old daughter said she wanted to test the oven with chocolate chip cookies. Great idea! Long story short, we made 2 different recipes and cooked half of each recipe in traditional oven and half in this unit. Both my daughter and I preferred the cookies from this stove. They were moist, crisp on the base and had a great texture. The real test for this was just as we pulled the last batch out, my wife and son came back from errands and we had them blind test. It was an overwhelming and immediate preference from both of them for cookies delivered from this oven. Pretty impressive! Truth be told, when I first saw this I thought it was a bit of a gimmick. I mean I thought it was cool gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless. After these tests and a few days use, I humbly stand corrected. This is a truly unique, efficient, effective and useful kitchen appliance. The other impressive aspect for me is that it uses considerably less energy than a standard electric oven. Anything to save a buck or two and I am all in. Another important note, this stove DOES NOT require pre-heating, so in addition to saving that pre-heat time, you are saving also the pre-heat energy expense waste. Very cool feature In the end, this is a great unit if you have the room for an additional large-small appliance. Important to note that this unit will take a little bit of experimentation and I highly suggest (can't believe that I am saying this!) to read the short manual and instructions first, but if you do, you can't go wrong. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

The Absolute Best Way To Re-heat Pizza
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This counter top steam oven has an excellent build quality and functions very well – but, its versatility is limited by its size. There is a decent amount of linear space, but the height is limited. The manufacturer brags that the oven can cook 9 pieces of toast, but those needing such a large quantity of bread would also need space to cook a large quantity of other items. Sadly, that space simply isn't there. Successful use of this oven does require some trial & error as the cooking times listed on food packaging doesn't seem to match what is required here. While pre-heating is not required, cook times still seem to be a few minutes longer than expected. Luckily, the interior light and the window ensure that it is easy to view the current state of your food (that is, when the steam isn't fogging up your view). The price seemed high at first, but I have been absolutely blown away by how well it re-heats pizza. The steam keeps the crust soft and moist while the bottom is re-crisped and the cheese is brought back to the perfect bubbling hot temperature. I will never use the microwave to re-heat pizza again. While this oven does have its limitations, I am confident that this device is not a gimmick. It is easy to use, is built to last, and very much holds its own as a worthwhile addition to the kitchen. PROS: + Does a phenomenal job re-heating pizza. + The steam does a good job of keeping food moist. (Over cooking may burn the outside, but still generally leaves the interior moist) + Solid build quality (should last for many years) + Simple & intuitive controls that are bright, easy to read, and aesthetically pleasing + Door handle stays cool to the touch + The window & interior light make it easy to see the food which helps to monitor cooking progress + The door is held close with a magnet (which means it is extremely unlikely that the door would break, or fail to seal properly) + Runs quietly + Does not require time to pre-heat + Comes with a Broiling Pan and Crisper Tray + The drip tray successfully catches the condensations that results from all of the steam that escapes the oven CONS: - No button to turn interior light on/off - Expels a large amount of steam when door is opened. This can cause burns, or eventually damage cabinets above the oven. - Drip tray needs to be changed after each use, but as it is tucked under the unit - it is not always easy to remove without spilling. - Water reservoir is small and needs to be refilled after each item cooked. (If you make multiple pizzas, you will need to refill the reservoir for each pizza). - Manufacturer Instructions for grocery store items do not include accurate cook times for this steam oven. It takes a bit of trial and error to discover accurate cook times. - Interior of oven is not tall enough to cook many items such as roasted chicken, meatloaf, or loaf of bread. A few additional inches would go a long way without taking up any additional counter space. - Stainless steel case gets too hot to have items resting on top of it. - Slightly heavy – meaning that you will not want to move it. It will probably be a permanent addition to your countertop.

An oven that works like magic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been aware that cooking with steam does great things to food in terms of taste, especially for fish. What a genius idea combining steam and traditional oven! My wife and I had plenty of fun testing this oven for the past 3 weeks, broiling/grilling scallops, cod fish, and salmon, achieving greatest results. Steam preserves natural taste, and as such much less salting is necessary if anything. Also made various frozen pizzas with awesome results. Definitely better than making pizza in a traditional (convection) oven. More fluffy and crusty. It's very easy to use this oven. I'd say there it's almost impossible to not achieve great results. Just make sure you always pick the right cooking mode (I once selected the "Bake/Reheat" cooking mode for pizza instead of the dedicated "Pizza" cooking mode which resulted in soft pizza. And, best follow the enclosed recipe book in terms of duration and temperature, as well as the table (see picture), and you can't go wrong. I very highly recommend this steam oven to friends and family, a well-deserved 5 stars. Only improvement recommendation I'd have: Provide a display that shows the actual state of temperature (for example, as the oven is heating up). The display shows temperature presets and a count-down timer only, which is probably sufficient for most. It's like a "set and forget" experience: You set the cooking mode and temperature, add your food to the upper or lower tray, and select "Start". Don't forget to check the water tank that is full of water.

Great Little Oven for Pizza and More
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sharp SuperSteam Oven is about the size of a large microwave. It has a nice, modern look with its stainless steel exterior and minimal buttons. Although it takes up counter real estate, it isn't heavy so it could easily be stored elsewhere when not in use. It is nice enough looking though that you can keep it out if you have the space. One thing I love about it is that you don't need to preheat it!! You just fill the reservoir with cold water, select your cook mode, set the temp and cook time and you're done. The interior light illuminates when the oven is cooking so you can watch your food get crisp and browned. The oven will cook as high as 485 degrees, so it is great for making small pizzas (up to 9 inches). So far I've used it to cook homemade pizza, frozen pizza, and french toast. All have come out looking and tasting great! The french toast didn't even need to be flipped! The steam gets the outsides crisp and keeps the inside moist and chewy. I am thoroughly enjoying this oven and I would recommend it if you like cool kitchen gadgets.

Useful Countertop Cooker!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being a Vegan family, we are always looking for different ways to prepare and cook foods. We have tried lots of different countertop cooking devices and for the most part, have liked them all. When I saw this new steam oven, I was intrigued. Cooking with steam is nothing new, but cooking with steam in an oven? That seems like another healthy and interesting way to cook, so I had to give this a shot. The first thing we did was make pizza from scratch. The dough was raw, so it was a great first test. It came out incredibly good (see photos). How this thing can actually cook and crisp raw pizza dough and toppings with steam is beyond me, but really cool to say the least. We have also tried roast-steaming veggies and it worked really well. Almost the same as a regular oven, only faster, still crisping the edges of the veggies perfectly. While I know this isn’t a traditional “toaster oven” it is pretty close to the same concept, only using steam and dry heating elements together in unison. To me this seems much better than a traditional toaster oven. The front glass does acquire some condensation when cooking (not much at all), but there is an easily removable drip tray underneath that catches all of the moisture. It is quick and easy to dump this after each cooking session. The oven does have some sort of fan that stays on for a few minutes after it is finished cooking, presumably to dry out the moisture in the oven and eject it into the drip tray and/or to cool it down. The manual calls for filtered water in the tank for steaming, so we use the filtered water from our five gallon water dispenser. The tank is under the dial and comes out easily to fill. I once forgot to fill it and the oven worked well even without the steam, essentially making it more like a regular oven. The heating elements are on the top of the oven, so broiling, faux (or regular) cheese melting, etc., is easy. Nachos! The dial and buttons are super simple and self explanatory and I never had to use the manual to figure them out. The dial also lights up with a red light around its edge making it look pretty cool when in use. There are two pans inside. One is a flat drip pan that can also be used as a cooking tray. The other is the same size, only having holes so things can get a little more crispy. I find that I am using the tray with the holes 90% of the time and the other underneath to catch crumbs and other food from getting all over the bottom of the oven. I would have given a full five stars if it cooked toast as fast as a toaster does, but it does not. This is by no means a deal breaker, but it would have been nice to ditch the toaster and save some room on the counter. Secondly, it is stainless steel, so it does attract fingerprints easily. All in all, we are very happy with this oven. It cooks and re-heats very quickly. In our go go society today, this is a bonus. We are looking forward to seeing what we can do with it next!

A huge upgrade from convection!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like many folks, don’t always have time to cook a full meal even with 2 kids. So I sometimes make frozen foods. I went from a mid level toaster oven with convection. I thought the food with my old machine cooked well. That was until I tried this sharp oven with super heated steam. I didn’t know much about that super heated steam feature but Wow is all I can say. I tried foods my kids love first. So a frozen pizza was cooked first. The pizza sauce was quite hot and the chees was not over cooked like in traditional counter top ovens. I really was surprised as I thought it would be the same as convection. But man then I did chicken nuggets and frozen fries. They both were cooked evenly and not over done on the outsides. The flavor seemed better as well. It’s amazing for sure. Especially if you don’t want to use all that electricity with the oven and you are in a rush or want a break from cooking a whole meal. Also this oven is beautiful, not that it’s more important than the food but sharp really put thought into the design. Looks very high end. The options and buttons are plenty as well and easy to use once you get the hang of it. I’d say give it a shot. You won’t be disappointed in you are looking for a worthy upgrade. You will not regret it. Or at least I didn’t. Good luck and happy shopping!

Steam Power!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sharp SuperSteam Toaster/Pizza Oven was a revelation. The name is a misnomer if you think it describes exclusively what this appliance does. It does so much more. And does it well. First, it is not a small counter-top appliance. It weighs almost 25 pounds and has enough interior space for 12.5 X 12.5-inch toasting and broiling pans. And it needs some space around the unit for venting. The chrome finish is gorgeous, but like all such finishes, it is a fingerprint magnet. There is almost no cooking task that it cannot do. It can bake, broil and toast with the best conventional oven. It is limited only by its size. Obviously, it can't hold a full-size turkey or ham. But I used it to make our favorite chicken tetrazzini recipe in a huge casserole dish. No problem. I heated a frozen pizza. I cooked hot dogs and hamburgers. I baked brownies. I made toast and delicious grilled cheese sandwiches. A recipe book is included, but the cooking possibilities are endless. There is a handy chart in the back of the book for the temperature and cooking times for generic items. There is no preheating, so it is quick. Because it uses a combination of super-heated steam and more conventional electrical heating elements to thoroughly cook your food. I prepared two hot dogs for lunch. Fill the reservoir with water for the steam. Set the unit to grill on the broiling pan at 485 degrees for eight minutes and press the button to start. That’s it. And the cooked food is extremely flavorful and moist on the inside. The toast and pastries were beautifully browned on the outside. I have never eaten a frozen pizza with the flavor this little unit unleashed. I am sure the super heated steam played a large part. I cannot readily name a shortcoming. For a young person living in an apartment, a full- sized stove could be totally replaced by this attractive unit. And for an elderly adult, almost every food could be prepared at counter top level without having to bend down to open a stove door and retrieve its contents. And it is faster and more economical to use that a full size oven. I am very fond of it. Highly reccomended!

Q: QuestionHas anyone tried heating/ warming up the milk? Can the mug/ glass fit in? How fast can it be? We usually heat the milk up within 60 seconds. You think this can replace your microwave?
Asked by Laputan.
- A:Answer Because of the reheating times I have experienced, I think it would take too long for a glass of milk to be properly heated. Plus, you have to use an oven-safe glass or cup and the height of the oven is pretty low.
Answered by insomniak1
Q: QuestionIs this good for baking lean breads to get a nice crackling crust and chewy center?
Asked by Sandy.
- A:Answer Hello Sandy, this unit is not able to bake Bread. This unit uses the steam technology to cook. If we may be of assistance kindly contact us at onlinesupport@sharpsec.com.

Q: QuestionThis is my 3rd attempt at getting an answer on how much space the interior has for a casserole dish. So far you’ve said there’s no rack, so 4”+ clearance is available. But your comment that a casserole CANNOT be baked does not agree with other answers!
Asked by Jasper.
- A:Answer I can see the answer that Sharp provided you yesterday. Why are you unable to see this? They gave you dimensions, it is up to you to know the size of your casserole dish.

Q: QuestionCan I use this oven without water filled, like a “dry” mode? Or can I fill in water and set temperature to 100 Celsius, like a “steam” mode?
Asked by Q.
- A:Answer Hello, please be advised that it is necessary to fill the water tank for all functions.
Answered by Sharp Advisor
Q: QuestionCan this be placed in an open cabinet space as in an island when in use?
Asked by MM.
- A:Answer Hello, please be advised that this is a countertop model. It however, can be placed within an open cabinet with the requirement of the minimum 3 inches space entirely around the unit for proper ventilation.

Q: QuestionWhat type of electric plug in does it use.
Asked by Jt.
- A:Answer Hello JT, we are happy to advise. The microwave uses a 3 prong plug.

Q: QuestionMany sandwich shops years ago steamed their sandwiches. I remember pastrami in particular. Lincoln still makes a version called the Fresh-o-Matic, but it is very expensive. Anyone know if this will do the same job for sandwiches?
Asked by bill.
- A:Answer Hello, unfortunately, this model does not have a feature for steaming sandwiches. The five cooking modes are: Toast, Warm, Pizza, Bake/Reheat and Broil/Grill.

Q: QuestionDoes this get very hot anywhere on the outside? I have breathing issues & can no longer use my regular oven as a result. Does this give off any smoke, etc or strong smell other than aroma of whatever you're cooking/baking? Thanks
Asked by TXCatLady.
- A:Answer Yes, the oven door, outer cabinet, oven cavity, accessory and especially the heating elements will become hot. You may detect smoke or a burning smell when using the appliance for the first time, this is normal and not a sign that the appliance is out of order. Smoke will occur during cooking if the food touches the upper heaters.
