I have put off this review until I gave the album at least 10 or so spins. This record has me believing that Trivium is in it for the long haul. Having been a big fan since the Ascendancy album, which was about ten years ago, it's been great to see this band grow and experiment and push themselves with each record. Some people who claim they are "fans" of Trivium got all bent out of shape (like when The Crusade was released, which I thought was killer) that Matt and the gang did pretty much all clean vocals with this record. I personally think they pulled it off great. Yeah, musically it kinda sounds like a few of these songs might have been remnants from the Vengeance Falls writing sessions, but they work. Anyway, not that anybody really cares, as a fellow musician I have always been a huge fan of bands doing whatever they want to do and make music for themselves. Glad that share that with the rest of us. It's not my favorite album of there's (which is the deluxe version of In Waves) but it's pretty freakin' catchy. My favorite riff is probably from Rise Above The Tides or The Darkness Of My Mind, which is a bonus track so I say get the deluxe version. The only song that would say is eh would be Pull Me From The Void, but its decent. I recommend putting all of Trivium's CDs or songs on shuffle, it's pretty good. Not that anyone really cares...

Considering they started out as a more aggressive metal outfit, many fans are disappointed with the more melodic direction they have taken. I however would rather hear this type vocal approach versus their former scremo type. The songs are well structured and to me are beneficial of the melodic execution. To me gives the songs more life. The music is still heavy. Just now he sings instead of the "growling" approach they started out with. I am pleased with this album.

While Trivium continues to evolve their sound with each Album release, it never disappoints. Evolveing their thrashy, heavy metal roots has come with a lot of backlash from fans and critics alike. Yet Trivium has never swayed from their idea that they write and play the music they want to and it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. SITS is a more melodic album that will have you headbanging and singing along to each and every tune.

Vengeance Falls was not a good album. This one is a vast improvement. It's much more focused and has a better flow to it. One thing though, is there is a lot less harsh vocals on this album as compared to previous Trivium albums. So if Ascendancy is your main Trivium jam, this one might not be as good to you, but to me, Silence in the Snow is a solid, enjoyable album.

Not like anything else Trivium has done, but still good in its own right. No screaming here as Trivium ventures into a more mainstream sound. A couple catchy standouts, but there are a couple songs that bleed together. Better than mediocre, but not quite excellent. If you want Trivium's best, look elsewhere...like 2008's "Shogun"

Now if you were a BIG fan of their last album, you're gonna be in for a surprise this go around. This album isn't anywhere near as heavy as the previous. This is a calmer but definetly very solid album. Just a heads up if you enjoy hearing the gutteral scream of the leader singer you won't find it here, he doesn't do it once on this album.

Even though I wish Heafy would've put more grit in his clean singing throughout the album, it's still a great experiment from these guys. And I just love seeing people complain about how they're not metal anymore because there's no screaming on this release. It's hilariously narrow-minded because this album still hits pretty hard.

Silence in the Snow is an interesting Trivium album. Trivium has begun exploring a slightly softer side of things. This album, just doesn't have the raw power that you expect from a band like Trivium. Not that that's a bad thing, it just isn't as intense as normal. This is still a good album and it is picking up in my opinion.
