Skylanders Trap Team Dark Edition Starter Pack - PlayStation 4

Trap Force follows the same formula of the last 3 games. Atleast this time they seemed to have reduced the number of new Skylanders to buy. All the normal skylanders look decent and the new minis are cute. The actual trap masters are probably the low point of the range. Most just do not look very good and seem to be lower grade visually. The traps are okay, trying to get you to buy 6 different version of each trap is not. Luckily it does not look like you will actually miss out on anything if you just buy on of each. The Dark edition does get you an extra trap master and trap. so not actually that bad of a value. The "Dark" versions are probably not better/worse then the standard counterparts. All in all Trap Masters is probably the second best in the series following Giants, first one, and finally swap force.

My daughter and I pick up every new iteration of the Skylanders franchise and Trap Team is no exception. The gimmick of trapping bad guys in cystals and the process of seeing them get pulled into a vortex and working their way into the crystal on the figure base is very well done. As for the Dark Edition, at 100 (vs. 75), you get a display for your crystals, limited edition figures (including one additional one, which would be a value of 15), and three crystals (vs 2 in the regular edition, a value of 6). So you get very tangible benefits of a cool additional figure and crystal worth 21 as well as a poster and crystal stand. To me, if you're going to make the invest it's worth it, especially since the standard items will be readily available in the re-sale market whereas the Dark Edition will most likely not.

My kids love skylanders and with each new version it gets better and better. They always seem to come up with new ways to breath new life into the skylander franchise and trap team is no exception. Now you get to play with the bad guys. My kids love and I think your kids will love it too. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the price. If you add up all the characters, traps, expansion packs, and mini skylanders, it can get pretty expensive. You can still use all your old skylanders which is great, but if you want to have everything prepare to open your pocketbook. The game still plays great with just the essential skylanders and would make a great holiday gift.

If you like Skylanders (any of the games really) you will like this one too. The new mechanic (trap team) is pretty neat, you get to play as some of the bad guys for a limited time. I will warn you, it is a $$ pit, and if you are a complete-ist like me, this round has the most toys yet. Be prepared.

Both my 8 year old son and I have enjoyed playing Trap Team. The reason for the 4 vs. 5 stars is that you can only open elemental gates if you have a Trap Master Skylander of that element. You don't need one of each element to complete the game, but it's a bit disappointing that even though we have Skylanders of that element from previous versions they cannot be used to open the gates. (Swap Force did not require a Swap Force character to open gates)

My daughter and I enjoy playing Trap Team. But if you want to unlock more of the game you have to buy more Trap Masters. Which really isn't different from Swap Force but beware of how much you can actually spend on this game. Plus side, the Skylander figures double as toys for my 2 year old.

Going on the 4th Skylanders game they just keep getting more and more boring and all about the characters out there. Now finally a new twist on this game. The 4th game made a come back for me. Love the traps.

It's a money pit like previous incarnations, but provides endless hours of entertainment for me and the kids. Must buy for any Skylanders fan as the trapping gimmick is worth the purchase.
