Here is the real information for this vent

Allow me to clear some misconceptions. When this item says 0-18, it's a bit of a poor description. It's 18" from center hole to center hole out of the box (overall length 24.5"). It's not expandable to 18" by pulling on the ends. If you want it less than 18", you MUST cut it. And, of course, it couldn't be less than about 5" in length just due to the connections. (A 0-5" periscope vent already exists, so 5-18 is a better description for this one). It says 2.5" profile (depth), supposedly allowing the dryer to sit back about an inch to 1.5 inches closer than the standard semi-rigid venting. I suppose that is dependent on your wall vent. If the wall vent does not allow the periscope vent to sit flat against the wall, any advantage is lost (see photo after Geek Squad installed the periscope vent). I had 3 Geek Squad installers for the new washer and dryer (separate trips for various reasons) and none of them recommended the periscope vent kit. They said they leak air, requiring a lot of foil tape, and don't really save you any room. In my case, that proved to be correct. I needed the space savings to close my closet doors, and in the end, the installers used foil flexible duct. The periscope vent may work in an ideal situation, but considering you may have to cut it and then tape it all over, it doesn't seem worth it...at least to me.

Forced to buy this with Dryer purchase

I purchased a Whirlpool Electric Dryer, and the sales people at Best Buy told me that if I did not purchase a "new" dryer vent, and power cord, the delivery folks would not install the dryer. We have minimal space behind the dryer, so my husband had recently purchased, and installed a specially sized dryer vent. I explained all this to the sales folks, but they insisted, so I bought it. Well, when the delivery folks took a look at the existing dryer vent, and compared it to the one I was forced to buy, they told me that the new vent would not fit, and had absolutely no problem usind the dryer vent we already had. I ended up returning the one I was forced to buy. This experience was irritating to say the least.

We bought this when we were expecting our new dryer and our dryer is perfectly located to the vent so we wanted this so the vent would go straight from dryer to vent in the wall. However this item is designed so that zero inches (so the vent and dryer are right by each other) the unit is extended all the way out. This is kinda silly. Why can't they be together at the smallest point? That would make sense. Unfortunately it did not fit into the space we had for it so we had to return it. Even if you have the space, you will see it stick out from behind your dryer if your dryer Vent is lined up perfectly.

I bought this product on the recommendation of the sales person at Best Buy. I told him I needed a new dryer hose to connect my electric LG dryer. I bought it, went home and it was too short to connect to the wall. I have to admit the idea of it looks good and it was less expensive than the traditional slinky style hose, but it is made out of flimsy tin and bent in my hands just trying to extend it out of the box. Also, even if the was with in reach and I was able to connect it it would have limited my ability to pull the dryer away from the wall and clean the floor. Don't buy this. It's junk!

When we purchased our new dryer, the salesman said we had to have this installed in order for the warranty to work. So of course we purchased it. Needless to say, it didn't work. It didn't fit the back of the dryer we purchased, therefore the salesman made a worthless suggestion. The installation/delivery specialist ended up having to use a long bulky hose that makes the dryer stick several inches away from the wall.

As long as you have a set of tin snips to trim this down, and have some aluminum tape to seal it off after cutting it to the right length, this is by far the best dryer vent hookup ever. Our old dryer was a miniscule 4 cu. ft. inside, but stuck out much father than our new 7.3 cu. ft. dryer because of the exhaust vent being so bulky. This also allows for smoother airflow, as tested at the exterior vent end.

Dryer vents are often difficult to attach properly, but if you have a very small laundry room (as I do) it’s impossible to use the standard flexible venting the big hardware stores offer. This periscope vent isn’t a breeze to install by any means, but with patience and persistence it is well worth the time and expense. With this option, my dryer sets 4” from the wall-

The periscope dryer vent its a bit aqwerd to work with and not easy to install. There is a lot adjusting and cutting that needs to be done to actually make it work. Also getting the periscope to mount to the wall vent outlet or the machine vent outlet was a pain because it kept slipping off even though the metal strap was tight. For those who have the wall vent outlet at the same level with the machine vent outlet it may be an easier install.
