Something About Faith [CD]

It’s been 15 years since Faith stepped on the scene with her debut album “Faith”. The music industry was, at the point, endowed with the sweet yet sultry voice of Faith Renee Evans. Fifteen years later, is that voice still there – it’s there and even better! “Something About Faith”, the sixth studio album from Faith, starts off with the soulful “Something About Faith Intro.” It puts you in the mood that says “Sit back, relax, and let me do what I do best.” And you can’t help but to melt from Faith’s range and riffs she displays effortlessly. “I Still” is that track were you grab your long time lover and embrace and celebrate the longevity love can endure. The lyrics craftily explain that the simple thing in the relationship keeps things strong. “Something About Faith” moves you through a range off grooves. “Way U Move” gives you that grown and sexy vibe. “Real Things” has you yelling out to Faith for mercy as she gracefully slays you with her Ad-Libs. Then you get right into the infectious “Worth It” as you sit back and embark into some serious head-nodding action. The lead single “Gone Already” sounds oddly placed to me on this album. It’s a great ballad but it seems like Faith picked this one up because it was “Radio friendly." Besides that, the lyrics are very emotional and Faith carries the song well. After you go through the emotions, you can’t help but to get up, brush it off and “Party” with Faith and Redman, produced by Mike City. Simply, forget about the world and hit the dance floor and let the beat take you. Then Faith slows you down and sexes you up with the smoldering “Right Here”. On the second verse, Faith breaks it down and speaks so sexy through the speakers, provoking you to pick up the phone and call that special someone to come over (“Come Over” 2010). And after they have arrived and you two have explored “Right Here” together, you can kick back and relax to the tropical sounds of “Your Lover.” Faith later on gives us a part two to “Your Lover” which has an 80’s sexy vibe, both produced by longtime producer Chucky Thompson. Keyshia Cole drops in and lends her vocals to the bass heavy “Can’t Stay Away,” which you can definitely hear in the club and will have you in the head-nod mode again. “Sunshine” gives you that up-beat, in the mall shopping, type of feeling. But don’t sleep on “Sunshine;” this is another song where Faith shines vocally. Moving into the ode to hip hop joint “Everyday Struggle” featuring Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon. I like this song a lot because of its contrast to her late husband, The Notourious B.I.G. (who also sampled the beat) version of “Everyday Struggle,” where he boasted not wanting to live anymore and Faith’s version is rather uplifting. “Everyday Struggle” uplifted me and encouraged me to change my way of thinking about certain situations. “The Love in Me” also gives you that real urban/hip-hop feel. This song would have been dope with a verse from Nas. The track was produced by ever popular Salaam Remi. This song definitely grew on me and I use it as an Appreciation anthem from Faith to her die-hard fans. Faith moves us deeper into a more inspirational/gospel feel with the message heavy “Change.” I can imagine hearing Ledisi all over this track, yet Faith stands alone this track and holds it down. The track “Troubled World,” which features Kelly Price and BET’s Sunday’s Best contestant Jessica Reedy, is another message track that allows all three women to sing with so much heart and soul. The bluesy track is sure to be a favorite to Faith core fans, as the song has floated around for years as an unreleased track. Faith has finally given “Troubled World” a well placed home. Faith offers us even more music as bonus tracks with the classic sounding “Baby Lay” and the contemporary, sexy “Robot” which features Fonzworth Bentley and produced by Malik Pendleton. Overall, Faith Evans has given her fans and the world a very solid piece of artistry. It is an perfect addition to the R&B world that seems to be getting back to its proper sound. Faith represents for all the real deal singers – the singers that aren’t afraid to showcase their God given gift. Thank you to Faith for coming back to the game and giving reasons to love her more!

I am absolutely happy about the CD. I really do like all the songs. I carefully listen to the cd over and over to hear the words. I was very fortunate to meet Faith Evans at the Circle Of Sisters Expo on October 30 this past weekend. Faith was at the WBLS table and did a live interview with the staff on the radio. She gave me her autograph; also took pictures with many people in the audience. Faith was very polite and gracious; seems like a very nice artist.

If you are a fan of Faith Evans you should buy this cd. Faith never changes which is a great thing. She always delivers the same Faith Evans sound (soulful voice with ranges sung over original R&B music mixes)which is how you became a fan in the first place. Buy the CD! :)

Good come back cd from Faith. I seriously took a listen to the whole cd and love this one. Her vocals are amazin. I'm feellin it. Another cd for your music collection.
